I love your laugh!

Aray YIKAMACI

thats a good way to put it haha!

Kel

Yeah I do agree with that to some extent! I just think the writers adding in the baby for Janice’s sorry line made it so much more complicated 😭 it’s one of those situations where you’ll never know what you would do unless you were in it type thing !

IcedQuokka

Chandler deserves way better than being cheated on, and not being someone's only one... I'm with you. But, I did have a child with someone whom I was in love with, but we couldn't make it work. It was torture for this kid some days... and as much as we tried to make it as easy as possible, it would've been so much easier on him if we could have made it work. I'm not saying that's the only thing you should consider in a situation like this... but I do think the way Joey and Chandler talk about getting in the way of a family is valid. Ignoring Janice and her husband, I would struggle to not think of the baby too. But once she cheated on me, I don't think I would have taken her back regardless.

Well if I’m taking out two other people for dinner and it cost around $100-200 and then one of the people put an extra $20 on the table I would definitely be insulted. No matter Ross intentions he definitely considered Rachel’s dad cheap despite him paying for 3 dinners

Sean Carroll

In its defence it hasn’t aged terribly! Just some stuff makes you look sideways at it sometimes ahahaha so far at least

IcedQuokka

Yeah they could have been something amazing if it had all aligned 😭

IcedQuokka

I got so mad hahaha 😭😭😭 just want them to be happy you know

IcedQuokka

Ooooo i love it when you can see the actors trying to hold their laugh it makes it so much fun 😂😂 also yes i have heard that one song from him! Just never knew the artist ! Great song

IcedQuokka

Honestly it was heart breaking 😭

IcedQuokka

Aahahaha so you and Ross wouldn’t get on in real life im guessing 😂

IcedQuokka

I just feel like chandle me has so much growing to do as a character and Janice cheating on him is gonna set him back 😭😭

IcedQuokka

Goddam it ahahaha 😂😂

IcedQuokka

Agreed 😂😂 so gross AHAAHHA

Some background info for anyone interested. One of the show creators and writers is gay in real life, so a lot of the jokes in this show function as a way to normalize gay people on tv, but because it was the 90s we have progressed so much that they aged badly. Friends was definitely a pave the way kind of show

I think Chandler/Janice is the great example of maybe right chemistry but wrong timing. I feel Chandler wasn’t at a point to be in a long-term thing with her when the series started. But at this point he is, but now she has more than herself to consider so she’s kind of no longer in the space to just say yes to her and Chandler being together. It’s just bad timing all around.

mojo shivers

I knew you were going to be sad that Chandler and Janice broke up 🥺

Sarah

I agree with you both. Given the fact that Janice wasn’t divorced yet, they have a child and her feelings are that conflicted… it was wise advice that Joey gave to Chandler.

Sarah

About Joey's words to Chandler - I think it's important to note that Chandler started dating Janice before she was divorced. She still had a husband and it might even have been the very early stages of her and her husband's split. So it makes sense for Joey to say what he said. I also agree it was a matured thing to say.

Monika

The Chandler and Janice breakup was inevitable but still sad. Though, while I agree that it wasn't right of Janice to do what she did and it wasn't Chandler's fault for "breaking up a marriage/family", I thought it was very mature of Joey to say what he said, especially since he's often made out to be kinda stupid and immature. Rachel's dad is the worst but he's hilarious and the actor is amazing. I get Rachel is just used to this kind of behaviour from him and I think she's implied before that she doesn't like confrontation in general, but especially when it comes to her dad. And while it is sad that she won't stand up for herself, she should at least stand up for her boyfriend. Them ganging up against her was not cool either but it was still funny 😂 Also, I love Gunther! Fun facts: In the scene when Chandler pops up the paper bag Janice was using, they had rehearsed it many times with him just grabbing the bag gently and the air in bag was supposed to go out slowly. But during the take, Matthew used more force than he had in any rehearsal and it popped. Maggie was able to hide her face in the bag but, even though he does a good job of covering it, we can see Matthew trying to hold his laughter. Also, even though it works for the scene, when Ross is teasing Monica about Ben forgetting letters from the alphabet, that was actually Jennifer not being able to hold in her laugh, that's why she moved away (towards David/Ross) 😂 And I'm sorry but "who's Lionel Richie?" He's a super famous singer/songwriter/producer! You may know his song Hello (...is it me you're looking for?). The song Chandler and Phoebe sing at the end is Endless Love, which he sang with Diana Ross (very famous too). He also co-wrote the charity single We Are the World with Michael Jackson. Btw, that ending scene with Chandler holding the album is a very famous meme.

Heida

Chandler saying 'But she wouldn't do that, she is with me' always gets me, it's so sad. It gets even sadder when you remember Janice was the first relationship we've seen where he actively challenged his personal issues every step of the way to try overcome them.

Rachels dad is one of my favourite guest stars, whenever he is on screen the episode is going to be funny. I dont believe in tipping culture as it should only truly be done if the service is excellent. The fact that Americans are socially pressured into it despite the quality of service I find terrible. I can understand Rachels dad being annoyed at Ross putting extra on the table if im the one taking you out for dinner

Sean Carroll

"Rachel has those in Burgundy" is honestly one of the most out of pocket lines in this show but its just so funny how Gunther says it with such a straight face

Sean Carroll

My thoughts on the Chandler Janice breakup 1. Joey was a good friend to tell Chandler and he is definitely the most reliable when it comes to being a good friend of the group. Chandlers denial simply comes from a place of low self esteem which thankfully he develops 2. I hate when guys simp over women for any reason and so I personally hated how much Chandler wanted her back after everything she did. In a best case scenario Chandler would believe Joey and simply break up with her but sadly he hasnt got that self esteem yet. 3. Regarding the breaking up her family i also dont like that logic. She cheated on him, let that be the reason for the breakup. I personally also have a rule to never date single mums as ive seen so many problems in the past with this dynamic and it just ends badly for everyone.

Sean Carroll

"I hope they stay together" (after Janice kissed her ex) im going to hold you to that quote for later Friends fans know what im talking about

Sean Carroll

Gunther loving Rachel is definitely a recurring joke for a long time so youre going to have to accept that now hahaha. He does have other great moments apart from that though

Sean Carroll

Episode 8 made me realize how many times Monica heard her brother having sex with Rachel while in the next room. Is weird...
