Thank you so much for doing my reaction request. I'm aware that it's not the kind of stuff you would normally react to. There's only one trailer reaction on Youtube and I always like introducing or getting people to know about movies/television that they wouldn't necessarily know about. This trailer really resonated with me. I grew up Orthodox Jewish and the trailer got a lot of stuff right. I've known people/friends whose families would only speak Yiddish at home. In high school, we were actively discouraged from and warned not to pursue higher education/college. We were told our duty, our mission, was to be a wife and mother. Work to support the husband learning all day. I'm 26, but the social attitude is if you're not married by age 20-23 - you are now the pitiable older single. Pretty sure the trailer is about Williamsburg - so Esty has never used a search engine or the internet before and would be shunned/evicted from the community for not being religious anymore. It's - some things are unique to the Satmar Williamsburg community who are infamous for having all these iffy problems and actions. Other stuff is just part of the system which unfortunately favors and gives the power to men over women. I'm proud to be Jewish - growing up in this society as a Ultra-Orthodox Jew just enables me to have this background/base knowledge and be able to recognize the faults and inherent systematic problems that are part of it.
