Intervals Masterclass (Essential Ear-Training Lesson)

An interval is the distance between two notes, described by their quality (i.e. major, minor) and size (i.e. 2nd, 5th). They're part of the key building blocks that make up the core of music theory fundamentals and absolutely all guitarists should spend some time understanding them and familiarizing yourself with them!

Being able to quickly process intervals and translate them to the fretboard will make an absolutely monumental difference to your ability to quickly work out songs by ear and process musical information, as well as improving your improvization and songwriting ability.

I understand that ear training exercises aren't necessarily the most exciting thing to spend time on for many guitarists, so in today's lesson I've compiled a bunch of cool examples of every interval from iconic Metal/Rock songs for you to study! Remember to take some time to either sing back or play back every interval to ensure you really internalize them.

The part with inversions and descending intervals is kinda tricky. A follow-up would be much appreciated \m/

You could make a shitty game show that no one would watch called “Name That Interval”
