Heather New Years!

BOY I just couldn't resist that pun, sorry :-x

Folks, it's been a great year and an even better decade. Above (and far below) you'll find the latest set from Heather for which I had dusted off my Canon 6D and 50mm 1.4 to get this slightly analog look. I love the Canon 50mm because it has a natural barrel distortion that draws your eyes towards the center and creates sort of an unspoken vignetting effect, on top of the actual vignetting that it has. My Sony 55m 1.8 is crisp all the way out to the corners so you don't really get that same feel, but it's done well to help me capture these futuristic sets that I've been building, and it has solid autofocus, so no complaints here. But I gotta tell ya, I've always loved the 50, and I remember when I got my first one back in 2010 or so..

At the time I was more of a photoshop guy than a photographer, I would liquify and airbrush and paint and rebuild entire sections of walls and just did so much in post that I'd only get 1-2 images per scene! And until I got my hands on that 50, I was obsessed with wide angle shots for nudes (with weird results, at times, but greatness at others).

It's hard to compare where I was a decade ago to where I am now in a single image, but at a certain focal length I can see the trend, and I can see the growth. Now, instead of just photoshop I use lightroom, I've swapped out instagram filters for 100mm filters, I hardly have to rebuild drapes because I take care in making sure the drapes actually look good before I take the damn picture. I've learned to care more before instead of taking care of it after.  I think this has been the key for me in this field, and you, the financiers, are the ones I should thank for allowing me the creative independence to grow to this point. 2020 is happening now and before we know it the years will start rolling by again. 10+ years ago I was here, 5 years ago I was there, and now I'm here, and here, and here. We don't have a set direction, we don't have a fixed style, I'm just making it up as I go and I'm honored that you folks are willing to come along with me.

Happy New Years!
