Everybody loves a good homonym, right?
The subtitle for the new Legend of Zelda sequel may be "Tears of the Kingdom," but I think "Tiers" will ultimately prove to be a more apt descriptor of its adventure. Because this game has taken the vast open overworld of Breath of the Wild and layered a whole 'nother explorable space on top of it: the sky!
Plenty of video games have offered expansive landscapes to roam across at this point, but I can't think of any other examples of games that stacked two open worlds on top of one another and gave you a bunch of different ways to travel up and down between the two. So we'll celebrate that unique approach to Hyrule's refined design in the central feature of this new NF issue!
We'll follow that up with a final preview of Tears of the Kingdom to dig deeper into some of the new gameplay mechanics Link will get to play around with in his latest quest, as well as a new Character Profile of Ganondorf to better prepare you for his rehydrated revival. For more Legend of Zelda love, check out our Interview section in which we talk to Ryan Clark (the only indie studio head ever entrusted with the Zelda brand), as well as our Community section talk with Melora Hart from History of Hyrule. She's a Legend of Zelda series artwork archivist! We even tossed in a fresh preview of Mina the Hollower, Yacht Club's upcoming adventure that takes a lot of inspiration from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX.
Zelda isn't the only big Nintendo topic right now, though! The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been soaring to stunning silver screen success, so we convened a Film Club to talk all about it, as well as writing up a separate review. This issue has its own layers, it seems!
Print subscribers, your physical copies are in production right now and will be mailed to you by the end of this week. Most of you should see your copy land in your mailbox sometime in the early days of May.
Digital subscribers, the download link to grab the PDF edition of this issue will be emailed this Wednesday, April 26. (I'll do my best to get those emails sent earlier in the day this time. I know sometimes my interpretation of Wednesday has been "one hour before it officially becomes Thursday.")
Finally, you'll find a major announcement on the inside cover of this issue! I'll be following up here with more details about that very soon. We've got a new, big, exciting project in the works! Stay tuned!
