I went to Lost Spirits two weeks ago - I’m from Wyoming, but work takes me to LA at least once a year and I go out to visit my wife’s family at least once as well. Unfortunately, I wasn’t really a fan. I love some good whiskey/rum/other spirits (Wyoming Whiskey puts out some stellar bourbons), and Lost Spirits get their drinks within 80-85% of the real things by taste, but that last 15-20% is a dealbreaker for me. Also, the carnival-esque nature of the tour was odd. However, I really appreciate the science behind what they’re doing - the fact that it looks the same on a mass spectrometer is amazing. I’d say one of the best craft distilleries on my radar is Crowded Barrel - they have a Patreon called Whiskey Tribe where you can vote on mash bills, barrel finishings and stuff like that. They also have a kick ass YouTube channel. If you’re ever in Austin, it’s worth a trip out to their distillery.
