Quick Review: Local Man (with Radiant Black)

Here's a quick look at two Image series that have a similar theme. One is successful...the other less so.

Quick Review: Local Man (with Radiant Black)

My thoughts exactly.

I feel like Radiant Black was devised mainly as a gateway hero so Higgins could build this new “Massiveverse” he’s been pushing so hard. I stuck it out for a few issues, but yeah… not compelling enough to stick with. If you’re gonna create a new superhero “universe” these days, it better be damned good

Paul Peterson

Funny. I recall seeing alot of advertisement for Radiant Black but Local Man flew under the radar. When I got into comics in the late 1990s and early 2000s. The early Image series where always the butt of many jokes. Mostly the series from Extreme Studios.

Super Vader

Yeah, I feel like, yeah, okay, it's alright to have some nostalgia here and there, but FUUUUUCK, aren't we beating a dead horse with all this shit? Local Man seemed cool I read the first issue, but he's so unlikable as a character I was kind of meh. RADIANT BLACK had a twist in issue 4, but it wasn't enough for me to stay on it.

Juan Navarro

I'm not a fan of that era either. But I think Local Man does pretty well.

Allan Hatt

It really, really didn't work for me on any level.

Initially, I enjoyed Radiant Black as a play on a trope, but it got old. I am enjoying Local Man, despite having hated the Gen 13 era of super hero comics so much that it triggered a break from comic books of about 10 years.

Speaking as a long time Power Rangers fan... Radiant Black wasn't exactly on target with me, either.
