Cheers for this! I vaguely grasped what the whole Mai/Maki thing was saying, but you articulated it really well. Also love that Maki gets the full abilities of her pact after putting in all the work. Maki has been a favourite of mine, especially after the movie with Yuta, so seeing her get to this level feels so well deserved and cathartic.

2026-01-22 23:40:32 +0000 UTCTruly so satisfying to see this, though it came at a heavy cost. It feels interesting to me that she was so ruthlessly efficient in killing everyone. She largely didn’t seem to be trying to make them suffer, just kill them. As if in that moment she wasn’t doing this for herself, but for Mai, to fulfill her final request to destroy them all. She clearly could’ve made them suffer and acknowledge her as she’d once longed to do, but with the sole exception of Naoya, she just killed them without even a word spoken.

From what i understand Mai didn't transfer any powers to her, but instead took all cursed energy with her when she died so Maki's Heavenly Pact could be completed. Her pact is the same as Toji's: no cursed energy in trade for godlike physical capabilities. However, in Maki's case the pact was incomplete, because twins are seen as one. Since Mai had cursed energy that means the pact counted Maki as having it too and she never got close to the full benefit of her pact. Their father sensed the same energy and fear from Maki he remembered feeling from Toji, immediately confirming there that Maki 's pact had been completed and she was now similar to Toji. I think that all the years of her honing her body and combat skills is the reason that she is now this strong after completion of the pact though. Basically, she did all the legwork beforehand and then received the full benefit of the pact instead of the other way around.
