I think both pirate crews was there to basically look for possible strong crewmates. Lots of the slaves there are pirates who made it this far in the grand line, and them purchasing one of them from slavery, they would more than likely be fine with joining their pirate crew.

Things keep escalating and with Luffy punching out a CD we are going to have to deal with the marines led by an Admiral. This is not looking good :/

All the info we were given up to this point was that Blackbeard will be the replacement for Crocodile on the Seven Warlords (Kuma told Moria in their conversation) and that Ace's Vivre Card was slowly burning away meaning something bad must've happened to him.
