To be fair, yokai are evil spirits, so this totally makes sense. There are only a few factors that turn people into yokai imo which are:
- traumatic past
- other yokais (crab thingy)
- idk being evil maybe lol
this backstory was very well written and i didnt expect it on my first watch. made me cry aswell

As someone who read the manga and rewatched this episode multiple times its still a tough watch, they really nailed the adaptation of it
The manga gets veeery dark and they couldnt really be as blunt about it on TV. In the anime its easy to get the impression that the mother bleeds out on the sidewalk but in the manga its a lot clearer how she climbs up on the rooftop after she fails to catch the car, does her final dance on the rooftop and then jumps off to kill herself 😭 The thud you hear is right after the rooftop scene in the anime is.. yeah.. exactly what you think it is

The thing that made me cry the most from this story was that it was too realistic, like you know there are people out there going through this same trauma. Other anime episodes have made me upset but usually it's like some fantasy story or something, this one was just like too real. Shoutout to single moms just trying to do the right thing for their kids.
