I love your recognition of time as a literal main character in this story. It is the thing that motivates all of our characters on their journeys. It's been such a great experience watching with you. If I could recommend another show to you it would be Violet Evergarden.

2024-08-04 12:02:39 +0000 UTCYep, you picked up on Serie's whole dealio there. Imagine what Frieren's personality would have been like if she never met Himmel, Heiter, and Eisen. Now imagine she lives that way for many thousands of years more. That would get you Serie: a willful, stubborn, childish tsundere who can't express her emotion or affections well. My pet theory is that her immense experience with magic lets her see the current state of a disciple's talent, and the ultimate form of their potential given enough time. But each disciple has their own personalities, levels of drive and individual motivations and definitions of success, so they'll inevitably only go as far as they can, even if it's nowhere near the ultimate form that Serie envisions for them. Serie is saddened by the brevity of her human disciples' lives. "If only they had more time..." How many disciples has she raised and lost since Flamme? How much hurt is she trying to hide, behind her wall of brash words and pretending to be emotionally distant and detached?
