Outposts and Hired Adventurers - a preview

Hello! This is a little preview of the main feature coming to tomorrow's update (Alpha 2.3) - Outposts and Hired Adventurers.

Mentioned on the roadmap, the intended gameplay for the Spring season will involve switching from managing a simple inn to managing an adventurers guild. As part of the new gameplay offered by this change, you'll be sending adventurers out on jobs in the surrounding forest - from simple patrols and resource-gathering missions to boss-hunts.

Alpha 2.3 will include the foundation for these systems, which will be introduced in the latter half of Fall, while the army is still around.

Initially the Army will help you set up some outposts in the forest, and offer the services of their soldiers to go on patrols at significantly reduced costs.

Outposts are little shelters you build out in the forest that allow you to send out adventurers for multi-day jobs. Like your inn, they have a level, condition, and supplies. As you upgrade the outpost, its level will increase - which in turn raises the maximum condition and supplies. For each day an adventuring party spends at the outpost, it will lose 1 condition. The amount of supplies lost will depend on the party, but is typically 2 per day.

You can hire and send out adventurers at any time during the day and it will not progress time. The adventurers will always spend a minimum of 1 day out on patrol, and then will check in with the results of their expedition the evening after their job completes.

While the army is around, you can also freely build, upgrade, repair, and restock your outposts whenever you want (so long as the danger in the area is below 50%). The army will send out some of their people to get the job done, you need only pay the required gold, materials, or food.

Once Winter rolls around however, and the army has left, things get a little tougher. You won't be able to build or upgrade outposts (at least until you find some people willing to help) and if you want to restock or repair them, you'll need to head out there yourself while on patrol.

Every region of the forest and adventuring party have certain traits associated with them, making some parties better for taking jobs in each region. Parties with ranged weaponry are far better suited to the open spaces of the meadows than the cramped structures littering the ruins. When hiring a party, be sure to pay attention to how much danger they will remove on their patrol.

Once an adventuring party returns from their job, they will report how successful they were.

Furthermore, most parties will have found loot on their adventures they may wish to sell to you!

Alpha 2.3 will launch with 9 different adventuring parties and a variety of traits for both the regions and adventurers. Initially only patrol jobs will be available, but more job types will be introduced in future updates.

While the outposts and hirable adventurers are main feature for the next update, there's plenty of other goodies on the way too! Thanks for the continued support, and we hope you enjoy what we've got coming.
