It's truly a pleasure to see each of the Straw Hats' passions in this filler arc. Sanji with his cooking, Chopper helping to treat people's injuries regardless if it's an enemy, Usopp showing concern for Merry, etc. These "Slice of Life" moments are what connects us even more to these characters in my opinion. I like Commander Jonathan as the opposition for this arc. He is intelligent, methodical, strategic, and patient. He surely has something up his sleeves for the Straw Hats.

2023-08-18 07:33:51 +0000 UTCCommander Jonathan is honestly one of my favorite antagonists in the show primarily because of how charmingly confident he comes across, but also how he presents a more cerebral and tactical challenge for the strawhats rather than the usual physical one. It's wild how he's only just a filler character. Also I'm not sure if you noticed but the cherry blossoms story that Chopper told to the doctor here was the same one that his first mentor, Dr. Hiriluk, told him when he was alive. Even in death Hiriluk is still inspiring new generations of doctors through his son Chopper.
