Ohhhh SNAP! something just occurred to me. One of the clear references this arc makes is that the Shandians are analogous to First Nations/Native Americans fighting back for their land. But one of the memorable scenes from this arc has the Strawhats literally dancing around a fire with a pack of wolves. It reminded me of the 1990 film Dances With Wolves starring Kevin Costner. Which is about a US Civil War vet who joins the Lakota Sioux tribe and fights back against the encroaching US Govt. Oda had them LITERALLY dance with wolves in an arc that's a metaphor about the struggle of First Nations/Native Americans.
