I mean, there are so many references to other animes in Bocchi, I think this was just part of the showmakers love note to them all. The DBZ scene after the birds attack, the Hajime no Ippo scene after the first club concert, etc etc. When you look there are just loads of them.

The thugs look like grunts from Fist of the North Star and Bocchi's guitar friend scares them by re-enacting a lethal moment from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure ! Why did they add that? Your guess is as good as mine 😂😅
