Definitely you hope for the best but we're all definitely weary it will happen. Plus (as I saw someone point out before), we've seen this happen before when places like Google and Facebook once embraced XMPP for messaging. :(

2023-06-21 13:08:16 +0000 UTCI think my main concern with Meta and the Fediverse is that the Fediverse was someplace that a lot of marginalised people - including queer and neodivergent people - sought out to be a safe haven from places like Twitter and Facebook, who had a tendency to have reports of harassment and abuse ignored by higher ups while allowing those that perpetrate that abuse the use of the platform without pause. The other concern I have is the ability of a company like Meta to have a greater influence of protocols like ActivityPub to change them to be more Facebook/Meta friendly. Thank you for the discussion on it though. I'm glad people are paying attention!
