It's an unexpected moment, to be sure. Jarring is a good word for it. But I think as a Lost fan... I'm not really surprised anymore by possible sudden main character deaths. Everyone always seems to get hung up on Clarke not getting the sketchbook after all... but isn't that more realistic? That it's a mess, no matter what she does. She couldn't know she'd run out of bullets and time. All Clarke could know in that moment... is that if she just walked away, Bellamy would 1000% tell Cadogan. The same Bellamy who couldn't stop Cadogan from torturing Clarke in the M-CAP machine.... who had them moments from exiled death... is gonna protect Madi? From Bill 'lock my wife outside' Cadogan?! And Clarke... well, she left Bellamy to die in Bloodreina's fighting pit, for putting the flame in Madi in the first place. She truly thought he died then... and while she told him later that she wouldn't make that choice again, it's human nature to fall back to old instincts. Just like Bellamy did with joining the Shepherd. However this turns out... either way, I do sympathize with Bellamy fans... because it's such a gut punch scene. But yeah, after Lost, and after Lexa & Lincoln & Abby and all the other deaths on the 100, I've become more rationalized about the unexpected and no one being safe. It does help in this case, for me, that Bellamy was never my focus... and I think S7 was just fine without him. But it's definitely one of those moments that makes you go... 'is this for real?!'
