Hobby Hangouts, Conversions and more! BTS #85

What up, mini family?!

Last week I was working on a conversion for a collab with jazza and emil. I'm happy to say that I've completed the conversion!

There's a lot of different materials in this project like green stuff, milliput, brass, styrene, and obviously plastic. I think it looks a little crazy and might not paint up that well, but it's always good to test your limitations and push boundaries. That's how we get better! I've named him "The Butcher". He claims heads, attaches them to his horse as trophies and absorbs the victim's souls into his wargear \m/ Next up, we got some wood elves!

I can't remember the last time I spoke about my wood elves, but finally the 2nd concept is being sculpted by Level 52. They've told me that all 3 should be complete, printed, and molded by the end of Q1. Let's see if that can happen! To jog your memory, this is what the concept looked like.

This past weekend I visited Vince Venturella in Ohio along with Sam and Jon and we had an epic hobby hangout. Here are some pictures of the event!

There's a lot to say about what happened so let's get into it! While I was visiting, the main goal was to paint another joint diorama like we did last time with orcs and goblins. The subject matter we chose was the Three/Four Musketeers in space!

I was responsible for this Inquisitor which I converted a little bit. I took the longest to paint and was rushing a little bit at the end, but I was pretty happy with what I was able to accomplish in a weekend! All the pieces look so cool together and the pie plinths I 3D printed were a great success especially after Sam put a bunch of cool scifi bits on them and Vince/Sam painted them up. Beyond that, we played Age of Sigmar; I ended up getting 3 games in!! That's more AoS games than the entirety of 2020 for myself! I played Sam's Stormcast Eternals 2 times and managed to squeak out a victory both times and then Vince humbled me with his Orruks in a matter of 2 turns. We also played a short D&D campaign. Vince set me up with a Halfling Warlock and I had a lot of fun visualizing how my Vicious Pact Blade was summoned and how Hex was casted, etc. Sam had a Human Ranger and Jon had a Half-Orc Druid. We completed the adventure and levelled up! It was probably my most enjoyable D&D experience. Big shout out to Emily Yaceczko for making up the awesome dice, bags, AND con badges. Really made the experience special. Lastly, I picked up a new camera.

This is the black magic pocket cinema camera 6k. It can do a lot of things, but most notably it can record in 6K resolution using Black Magic's raw profile. I'm going to have a lot of fun messing around with this camera. It's been a couple years since I got a new one! That's all for now, hopefully you guys had an enjoyable, hobby-filled weekend too!

Comments

I think the BMPCC6k might be a little bit too heavy for my arm that holds the camera, haven't tested it yet. For now I'm keeping my GH5 as the camera the floats over my shoulder and shoots the footage of the painting, the BMPCC6k will get all the other b-roll. At some point, I will definitely experiment with using it for my painting camera.

Will black magic pocket cinema camera 6 become your main camera going forward? Any suggestions for a starter camera that will do the job well without breaking the bank?

Yes, there was hair everywhere. I have black dogs and where mostly black clothing so I don't see it much but the blonde hair was unstoppable!

That dog was an affection magnet, haha

I went 2-1

That dog is such a cutie! I wondered if the hair was a problem at the painting table... and then I saw all the hair at the bottom of the combined group photo of the miniatures! ;-)

Diorama looks great, wood elf looks badass, and I’m excited to see the results of this conversion project. But let’s be honest, the real winner of you guys’ weekend was that dog. Maximum cuddles and belly rubs provided, I’m sure
