I am blown alway this is a thing that happened!!!!

Babymetal - Painkiller & Breaking The Law LIVE

I am absolutely certain that Moa was playing at least the easy parts, she just was of course not in the mix. She does play, just not well, youre right BTL is super simple. If you watch her fingers, she is nailing the main riff perfectly. I saw the same thing you did. Kamis were clearly the ones with live output, but Moa especially was accurately miming (she may have even actually been attempting to play the song for real unplugged). Yui on the other hand, I mean she tried and looked good, but its dead obvious she doesnt play.

Su playing air guitar with Rob at 7:48 makes my day every time. :-D Yui certainly isn't playing, you can see her not moving her hands with the chord changes. I think Moa might be playing, as she has had some lessons and obviously has some technique. Whether she can actually be heard in the mix is another matter, probably not.

I am looking forward to that one.

Yes, not playing here, but as you said Moa does play guitar a bit and that she openly admits that she doesn't practice enough. However, I did see in an interview somewhere that Moa did get some training from Mikio before his untimely passing, so she had a pretty good teacher while on the road touring. As to why she didn't practice enough is up for debate, but personally, I reckon it might have something to do with her competing life focusses. After all, as Moa was growing up, she was doing stuff for SG and Babymetal where she had dance lessons, vocal training, choreography meetings and practice and filming for SG. Add to this we had a teen who had to manage other things such as school, homework, time with family and to also have some form of a social life with her friends. Moa would have been a busy bean. No wonder she found it hard to find time to practice guitar.

They're doing a collab with Electric Callboy on the twenty third.

Hell yeah! This performance is always a fun one. Su’s dorkiness is on full display with no major choreography, and just enjoying herself. Yui and Moa slightly shy, but still owning lol. Adorable. Yui and Moa weren’t “actually” playing. However, Moa has taken guitar lessons so she does know how to play, and I would guess learned the song a bit to appear accurate (just my guess). Moa said she doesn’t practice enough though. Babymetal did Painkiller/Breaking the Law cover again later the same year, except with Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers on the drums, with a special surprise for Su at the end. They also had Korn surprise them on stage as an end-of-tour gag, fun times! 🤘🦊

That was fun, thanks. Shame about the camerawork and the crowd, but it was an awards show ... a special occasion nonetheless. Rob Halford had been out to buy a red and black leather jacket etc specially for this performance with BABYMETAL to match their colour scheme. They did an interview together afterwards and Rob Halford was class having nothing but praise for BABYMETAL and the Kami Band. He said they were originally only going to do 'Breaking The Law', but he was enjoying rehearsing with them so much he said "Let's do 'Painkiller' as well" and they were so professional they made it happen. He also described the girls as "Heavy Metal Monster Ladies" (that made them giggle) and as "the future of Metal". He also told them to "Stay Metal" - a message they took to heart. Yui and Moa had custom three quarter size ESP guitars for this. Whether they were playing is still debated. Moa was the more likely (she could already play a bit, Yui was a beginner) and they had said they were nervous about playing live. Its not like the main riff for 'Breaking The Law' is too hard and they had a couple of the very best teachers to help them prepare, so who knows (only the Fox God I suspect). Rob Halford is on record since this as saying he would love to collaborate again with BABYMETAL, but ideally on a new song ... in Japanese.

They're not really playing, but Moa can actually play guitar a little bit! So that's why she can emulate very well the kamis movements 😉 Another great collab on stage was with Chad Smith from Red Hot Chilly Peppers! No spoilers, but it might be a surprise on stage 👀 the only downside is that tha audio quality isn't great because it was captured only by fancams
