Tokyo Travel Vlog Update!

Just giving an update and talking about what I'll be doing, what I'll be bringing, and asking for any suggestions!

ALSO - I SAID 21,000 YEN ... lol I meant 2,100 YEN WAY BIG DIFFERENCE!

Tokyo Travel Vlog Update!

Knowing how to ask where the bathroom is in the language of the country you’re in is vital - as is knowing that country’s 911. John, we may not be able to get you to 21,000 yen from 2,100 but I’m sure some of us would like to help bridge that gap. Can we Venmo or perhaps chip in during a Live?

Upload in parts. You can also add Gundam Yokohama Factory, Asakusa, Tokyo Skytree, Ichiran Ramen (for the food). These are famous to tourists aside from the usual Disneyland. I also went to Shibuya sky. I only knew the bar in the floor before the escalator going to the roof deck.

Tokyo is amazing I had the best time there. They have most signs in English as they were prepping to host the Olympics in 2020 so it’s really accessible. Make sure you have a good translation app that will translate signs that made all the difference to me. The kiosks everywhere (subway, train, mc Donald’s) all had an English option to let you pay/order in English so that helped too. Big do not is littering, be very aware of your trash and pack it with you till you can find a place to dispose of it, don’t talk on public transportation (or do so quietly), don’t jaywalk (i do this always in the US). Depending what airport you fly into it might be another 90+ min ride into central Tokyo plus then finding your lodging. You will be tired after hella long flight then customs (generally customs is exceptionally fast and efficient in Japan) so make sure you know how you are getting to first destination because you’ll be overwhelmed. I took yeh train which took a bit to figure out but then ended up sooo lost trying to find my hotel (literally next to train station in Shibuya) because I was tired. It took me 2.5 hours wandering to figure it out. The hotel lobby was on the 5th floor of a giant mall the train station is part of but the entrance to the hotel is a tiny hidden elevator with a tiny plaque to indicate what it is. No obvious sign anywhere. All was fine once I found the dang lobby. Hotel was amazing (work trip so I didn’t pay). Jet lag is nasty bad on trips to Asia. Have the best time!

Hey John! Canadian living in Japan here. I'll be in Tokyo at the same time as you. I sent you a DM. If you need anything, HAPPY TO HELP! I'm gonna recommend a day trip to Mt. Takao for the fall leaves. Beautiful nature and a break from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo.

andy.tofu

You will have an awesome trip. I would love to follow you each day = the whole travel in parts 🤗

Haha no need to apologise I personally love to hear you babble excitedly 😄 I am super excited for you and can't wait to experience Tokyo through your eyes, I have never been. I know it's like really cliche but one place I have always wanted to go is the Studio Ghibli museum. I love Ghibli so much (I have a whole tattoo sleeve!) I would definitely break the vlog down into part like one per day it will be easier for us all to digest and find particular bits if we want to go back and watch.

One thing to remember about Tokyo is that the city really comes alive in the evenings and at night, especially areas like Shibuya and Shinjuku. If you go there during the day, it usually won’t be that busy unless it’s a weekend. One part of Tokyo that I personally love is the cocktail bars… if you’ve ever watched people mix drinks before, they do it to a level of precision that few can match. If you want suggestions of a one or two great cocktail bars just let me know! It’s also great that you’re going now because the yen is down against the US dollar, so the city itself is definitely more affordable.

I'm here for all of it! But parts might be cool to experience each adventure separately. I cannot wait to experience it through you, pal and am so happy for you!

I was just there this past weekend! It’s a bit crowded but ton of fun!

I loved this video!! “Where is the bathroom?” I too somehow know how to ask that in Chinese, Dutch, and German! 🤣 I live in Tokyo, and I’m so excited that you are coming here! My advise would be to talk to other travelers. They are the best source of information. And don’t feel pressured to do something very Japanese. If you find a really good place to eat, it’s ok to repeat going there. As for the videos, it might be fun to edit by categories like food, transportation, people.

Parts! You’re gonna have so much fun! Having your phone out is the norm there. They use their phones for everything! As someone who’s visited and had family living there here are a few tips that will help. The Japanese culture is all about respect. When Americans visit and so that respect it goes a very long way. Here are a few things you should do: * Learn a few basic words like Hello and Thank you in Japanese. * Learn to do the ‘half bow’. If you watch “Flip the Coin” you’ll notice they do a quick bow when saying hello, when entering, when saying thank you and goodbye. An American doing this means a lot. * Remember most Japanese understand a level of English but are very shy about speaking it because they don’t feel like they speak it well. * Ask if someone understands English, never assume. This respectful question went a really long way in showing respect. * Remember that their culture is based on respect. The more you show it, the more they appreciate it!

It may be a little early, but this is the time of year when the autumn leaves are so beautiful in Japan. I will also be heading from Nagoya to Tokyo on the Shinkansen on the 14th. I'm also really looking forward to the VS live performance.

YOKO

I think you should do your vlog in parts. Looking forward to your travel adventures!

One month and it’s go time!

Jamie M

I'm gonna have to fly to Tokyo on the day of the concert and catch a flight back home the next day at noon, so I hope to see you and say hello on the day if possible. I guess Tokyo will be much cooler in November, so watch out for temperature changes.

border_lynn
