Tick Tick BOOM and then RENT (they're both kind of a packed deal). 😉

2023-01-21 11:12:18 +0000 UTCI like all of the above. I haven't seen a couple, so they would be interesting to watch with you. I love Newsies! Christian Bale pre-pre Batman! Little Shop of Horrors is older, but fun. The Wiz is also older, but has a great cast. Although I'm sure you've seen it, and it's a bit of a stretch, but Grease? (I feel like I'm dating myself quite a bit with these suggestions!) I would recommend Into the Woods for the movie cast, but the stage play is better. Still pretty neat to see all the famous people singing.

2023-01-17 16:32:49 +0000 UTCI guess I would say Hairspray or Chicago. LA LA Land is pretty good too.

2023-01-17 13:45:31 +0000 UTCI'd caution Against the Movie Adaptation of RENT, as Chris Columbus randomly makes sections Spoken instead of Sung. You *Could* compromise and listen to the Original Cast Soundtrack in addition to the Movie... For your Bitesized Pleasure, Galavant, the ABC Series is bloody Brilliant! Its a modern take on Classic "Hero Rescues Fair Maiden" trope, with songs by the Best Disney Composers.

2023-01-17 12:26:35 +0000 UTCHi John I really think you'd love The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman (Wolverine guy!!) I absolutely do❤❤❤

2023-01-17 11:20:16 +0000 UTCLes Miserable is definitely a fave of mine, but it's very intense so I also think you'd have fun with something like Matilda the musical or the greatest showman or even Tick Tick Boom

2023-01-17 09:33:18 +0000 UTCI'll just keep submitting Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Everything else is covererd. Instead of a poll, maybe you should keep track of suggestions and do random number draws. :-)

2023-01-17 07:03:57 +0000 UTCPersonally, I wouldn't recommend jumping to Les Mis straight away, it's a different style of singing, it's more traditional musical with opera influences.

2023-01-17 03:46:40 +0000 UTCDefinitely Les Mis. And, as much as I don’t like it, see the movie first to get the storyline. Then watch the dreamcast perform the anniversary concert to hear how it’s SUPPOSED to sound.

2023-01-17 02:12:07 +0000 UTCNewsies or Six!!!!!! Both great high energy musicals and yeah, I agree Les Mis and Phantom of the Opera when he is more used to high drama, but not the Les Mis concert, it's not for beginners because there's not really any context. I suggest if you do Les Mis start with the 2012 movie and then do the concert. But my real suggestion would be Six or Newsies. Greatest Showman is good too

2023-01-17 02:11:32 +0000 UTCJohn Waters' original is great but isn't a musical.

2023-01-17 02:11:14 +0000 UTCMy fave musical is the movie adaptation. I even have 2 tats for it. Many of the original off-Broadway stage cast is in the movie.
Chriss The FloorStuffie
2023-01-17 02:11:05 +0000 UTCtick tick boom to finish up your stretch of lin manuel miranda content (he didn't write it but he directed it), and tick tick boom is a movie musical biopic about jon larsen who is the one who wrote rent, so i think watching TTB followed by rent would be a great progression to bring u to the classics!

2023-01-17 02:02:47 +0000 UTCAgreed! Due to his status as a still somewhat unsure newbie, I say leave the operatic Les Mis and Phantom for when he’s used to high dramatization and random outbursts of song. 😀

2023-01-17 01:53:29 +0000 UTCFor current stuff, Matilda the Musical is awesome and just dropped last month. For classics, the 10th Anniversary Concert version of Les Mis. Bonus that version is free on YouTube. Con: It's a concert, not fully staged.
MrHolbyta
2023-01-17 01:51:02 +0000 UTCI would say save the classics for later and watch tick tick boom and then rent. I don’t know I feel like even if rent wins, you need to watch tick tick boom because it’s about the creator of it. It makes you so much more attached to the plot and the characters. So yeah tick tick boom.
