NEXT MUSICAL !!

Ok! Sooooo I would do a poll but there's SO many Suggestions and I feel like the best way to do this would be

COMMENT BELOW, Your Suggestion for my next musical! The Most Suggested in comments shall be the next one we watch! :) I plan on watching at least 2-3 a month from here on out if you're all down!

Comments

Tick Tick BOOM and then RENT (they're both kind of a packed deal). 😉

boybandstan7

I love The Greatest Showman! please react to it, that would be amazing!!!

DreamTeam002

Kinky Boots or Hairspray!

Kymberly

I like all of the above. I haven't seen a couple, so they would be interesting to watch with you. I love Newsies! Christian Bale pre-pre Batman! Little Shop of Horrors is older, but fun. The Wiz is also older, but has a great cast. Although I'm sure you've seen it, and it's a bit of a stretch, but Grease? (I feel like I'm dating myself quite a bit with these suggestions!) I would recommend Into the Woods for the movie cast, but the stage play is better. Still pretty neat to see all the famous people singing.

Crista Rigg

3 of my all time favourites too!

Lisa Hood

Oh YES! This is a must.

Lisa Hood

I guess I would say Hairspray or Chicago. LA LA Land is pretty good too.

Jamie M

I'd caution Against the Movie Adaptation of RENT, as Chris Columbus randomly makes sections Spoken instead of Sung. You *Could* compromise and listen to the Original Cast Soundtrack in addition to the Movie... For your Bitesized Pleasure, Galavant, the ABC Series is bloody Brilliant! Its a modern take on Classic "Hero Rescues Fair Maiden" trope, with songs by the Best Disney Composers.

mahjacat

Hi John I really think you'd love The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman (Wolverine guy!!) I absolutely do❤❤❤

M S Moses

Les Miserable is definitely a fave of mine, but it's very intense so I also think you'd have fun with something like Matilda the musical or the greatest showman or even Tick Tick Boom

Jordan S

I'll just keep submitting Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Everything else is covererd. Instead of a poll, maybe you should keep track of suggestions and do random number draws. :-)

FlyUshkiFly

Tick Tick Boom

Sally Tay

six the musical proshot on youtube

Lenajah Madison

Les Miserables!

MJ

Personally, I wouldn't recommend jumping to Les Mis straight away, it's a different style of singing, it's more traditional musical with opera influences.

kikiblaze

Movies that are musicals (format similar to In The Heights): Les Misérables (2012) La La Land (2016) The Greatest Showman (2017) Filmed stage productions (format similar to Hamilton): The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals (2018, free on YouTube) Kinky Boots: The Musical (2019) Come from Away (2021) Animated musical movies: Moana (2016, music and lyrics by Lin Manuel Miranda) Coco (2017) Encanto (2021, music and lyrics by Lin Manuel Miranda)

Onno Smits

Les Mis for sure. And SIX is a great one and short.

Rachel Recuero

Rent for sure!!

FaythSky

Hadestown

Nina

Hairspray is hilarious, Les Mis is a glorious production, Singing in the rain for a bit of perfect nostalgia...

Lucie G

Newsies

Leigh Marx

Our family’s 3 favorite musicals are Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Singing in the Rain and Newsies. 🥰

TSO 아포방포

Rent

Jessica Danowski

Tick Tick Boom, Newsies or Les Mis

Jessica M.

Westside story

Linda

Hairspray the movie

Linda

Rent!

Ija Ochoa

Definitely Les Mis. And, as much as I don’t like it, see the movie first to get the storyline. Then watch the dreamcast perform the anniversary concert to hear how it’s SUPPOSED to sound.

thebakingfool

Tick Tick Boom

April

Rent - stage recording. Come from away - pro shot Newsies - pro shot

Laura Scott

Tick Tick Boom - I think you’d really appreciate and enjoy it.

SueBee

Tick Tick Boom

Chriss The FloorStuffie

Movie adaptation of RENT

Chriss The FloorStuffie

RENT

Chriss The FloorStuffie

RENT

Chriss The FloorStuffie

RENT

Chriss The FloorStuffie

Yes but it should be an off-Broadway stage the way Jonathan wrote it then the movie then the Fox Special

Chriss The FloorStuffie

Movie adaptation of RENT

Chriss The FloorStuffie

Newsies or Six!!!!!! Both great high energy musicals and yeah, I agree Les Mis and Phantom of the Opera when he is more used to high drama, but not the Les Mis concert, it's not for beginners because there's not really any context. I suggest if you do Les Mis start with the 2012 movie and then do the concert. But my real suggestion would be Six or Newsies. Greatest Showman is good too

Joyelizabeth

John Waters' original is great but isn't a musical.

Raye

My fave musical is the movie adaptation. I even have 2 tats for it. Many of the original off-Broadway stage cast is in the movie.

Chriss The FloorStuffie

tick tick boom to finish up your stretch of lin manuel miranda content (he didn't write it but he directed it), and tick tick boom is a movie musical biopic about jon larsen who is the one who wrote rent, so i think watching TTB followed by rent would be a great progression to bring u to the classics!

grace

Come from Away is wonderful.

Raye

If Hairspray then it should be the original

Chriss The FloorStuffie

The movie adaptation of RENT

Chriss The FloorStuffie

Stage is better. Movie has original cast, but they're all 15 years older.

Raye

Les Miserables

Yo!SamitySam!

I recommend Hairspray the movie - it's super fun.

Raye

Tick Tick Boom next maybe

Angie Shaw

Six, rent, chorus line (either original or recent Broadway version, not the movie), kinky boots (good filmed copy available is a plus here)

Jessica Abel

Rent. Either stage version or 2005 movie

Jaxon Horsnell

Agreed! Due to his status as a still somewhat unsure newbie, I say leave the operatic Les Mis and Phantom for when he’s used to high dramatization and random outbursts of song. 😀

Lisa Hood

Or newsies

Mel McCahill

Chicago or rent!!!

Mel McCahill

Chicago

Ms. Chuck Terry

Newsies, phantom or les mis

Dora Dominguez

Tick, Tick, Boom is great!

Nichole Krause

For current stuff, Matilda the Musical is awesome and just dropped last month. For classics, the 10th Anniversary Concert version of Les Mis. Bonus that version is free on YouTube. Con: It's a concert, not fully staged.

MrHolbyta

I would say save the classics for later and watch tick tick boom and then rent. I don’t know I feel like even if rent wins, you need to watch tick tick boom because it’s about the creator of it. It makes you so much more attached to the plot and the characters. So yeah tick tick boom.

Jenny V

Sweeny Todd

Jordan Kisling

Tick Tick Boom! :)

Stefanie

It’s not a musical, but Encanto (songs by Lin-Manuel). Rent, Les Miserables, Tick Tick Boom, Matilda.

Letty

Les Mis!!!!

flowersforaghost7911

Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall (25th anniversary)

kaiel

Rent or Sweeney Todd!

Aubrey Mayes

Seconding Tick Tick Boom!

Darsy Smith

Rent for sure

Ashley Mahler

Newsies or les mis

Mady De Costa

Tick Tick Boom (movie) or Come From Away. Also try Rent, or Chicago.

Lisa Hood

RENT!!! I would definitely watch the stage version first, then movie. Saw it on stage multiple times, including the last run many with original cast! Legendary, truly.

NotCaseyKasem

Rent-either the stage recording or the 2005 movie that has most of the original Broadway cast.

Sarah Metzger

Newsies!

Daylet
