Capsule Corp😉 Man I love watching your reactions even if I've watched it somewhere before. You just have a way of getting me glued to my screen, that's if I don't carry my phone with me to watch you. When I stumbled onto your YT channel I binged watched your journey down our Bangtan rabbit whole in a weekend, needless to say I didn't sleep. And this video was so awesome, usually I can't sit still for so long but this was so damn interesting. I'm a South African Army and to hear Bang PD mention South Africa when he was researching was so heart warming. You keep streaming and I'll keep watching!!!

Carmen Fourie

AHHH glad to have found it for us both!! :)

John Reaves

OMG I have always wanted to watch Bang PD's talk ever since I saw snippets of it on one of the introduction videos but I could never find it anywhere. Thanks for finding it and sharing with us!

We all know how much RM loves to Read. Now I can understand how their early songs came about, although I did know it was BANG SHIK and PDOGG were listed as the writers and producers, and that there is where they started teaching the boys into writing music. I love it.

Capsule Corp, Hey John, I'm glad that I've watched this with you. I have only watched clips of this. Great reaction my friend.

Capsule Corp Thank you for braving the woods to find this video! I had only seen small clips of it before so it was really great to get to watch the whole video with you. One hour is not too long for me to tune in🤓

There’s a rapper named Sleepy who is credited with being the link between RM & Bighit. Sleepy actually appears in a reality tv show with BTS’s Jin called Law of the Jungle (a short of Celebrity Survivor but they don’t vote each other out). Circa 2016 I think. He mentions introducing RM to Bighit to Jin but only briefly. Or at least only part of their conversation is shown.

Regarding your question if there can be a "kpop" not from "kpop". For me beyond the obvious (good music production, vocals, visuals) what makes kpop group is 1. trainee system. It's great that BTS had much less pressure from the management on them than some other groups but it just meant they had to put that pressure on themselves and they did, more than any management could have demanded from them. As much as ARMY hate talking about it, BTS wouldn't exist without the trainee system. 2. parasocial relationships. There is nothing wrong with that per se but it must be acknowledged. Kpop is built on cultivating extreme levels of devotion via all that extra material. The reason western artists can't compete in social media spaces with kpop fandoms (not just ARMY) is bc they rely purely on music and occasional interview. While for any even smallest kpop group it's crucial to have variety content, vlogs, livestreams, reactions to their own MVs, backstage videos, Birthday and other holiday celebrations, fanmeets etc. It's not a nice bonus, it's crucial. That's why there are fandom names and lightsticks, why idols are not allowed to date or live outside the dorms (most of the time), there is a manufactured (again, doesn't mean that it's not sincere!) codependent brotherhood created, not like any coworkers or even sport teams would build but more like brothers in arms and as much as there is an ever-present fanservice element to everything (between the members themselves and them and fandom) it's very rare that something is framed romantically, you as a fan is always the "invisible member" of the group, a friends, protector and one being protected as well. By the way that parasocial relationship totally goes both ways. But yeah, sorry for the ramblings but there couldn't be a kpop group not from Korea if they don't go through this kind of system, it's not just about music and dance, and it's not that typical for other countries.

That was such a great video!! I've seen parts of that talk before, but not the whole thing. I had to laugh - Duran Duran was my favorite band growing up, so the fact that they influenced Bang PD feels like fate.

Sharon McNeil

Ahhh!! Thank you so much!!! did you see or hear anything new in this video? lol I really am still going over some of the things he said and I learned so much!

John Reaves

capsuel corp :D

Kbstarz

It does!

TSO 아포방포

Lol heck yes! I felt like that was a “I’m a real fan” moment for me 😂💜💜

John Reaves

😊😊 thank you so much for watching it with me!

John Reaves

Ah for real thank you so much! And yeah maybe we can do a full Pre-Debut week or few weeks on here? I saw this massive database of all BTS links EVER and they have a ton of pre-debut videos!

John Reaves

John thank you so much for reacting to this video. It’s the first time I have watched the whole interview. It was put together really well. I hope when Taylor and Jeff do their video on Bang PD that the can dive into his background of schooling, mindset, producing and writing background. This video just made me want more. You said you felt awkward recording this long video by yourself. But for us watching it was like we were watching with a friend. You don’t need to feel awkward because we enjoy the long video’s. For those of us that live we enjoy the longer video because we don’t feel like we are alone the entire time that video is playing. Yes please please watch the pre-debut content because it’s is really good. There is stuff I have wanted you to watch because I bet there is a lot of ARMY out there that hasn’t seen it either. I became ARMY just before this video was produced and it’s the first time I am seeing it. There is just so much content out there. I did watch until the end but I didn’t understand what you said to write in the comments and I couldn’t read you coffee mugs on this phone. 😂 But yes I did watch until the end and I thoroughly enjoyed the reaction. Oh ya, I use to live in California and I had been to that guitar center, before and after it was remodeled. They were like the biggest music store in Cali and everyone went to it when I was growing up. They sold albums in their that I still have today. I purchased my first guitar there. I ended up giving it to a friend that had a band. I have Jimin size hands and fingers so it was hard for me to play. Even though I don’t play anymore I still appreciate listening to a good riff. ☺️ Thank you so much and have a blessed rest of your day. Borahae 💜

That was great, thank you for posting this!

I love the origins story of RM and how he got introduced to Bang PD! And honestly idk if id consider it kpop either? What would we call this Kpop from America? APop? 😂

John Reaves

Bang PD was calling Namjoon friend, not saying that RM and PDogg were friends. I believe that Namjoon was trying out for another company and messed up his audition. Luckily someone that was in his audition liked him and passed his music along to PDogg at BigHit. Also, Hybe has plans to debut a Kpop Boy group in the U.S. I think they’re supposed to debut either in 2023 or 2024. Likewise, I think SM or YG or maybe even both, also are planning to debut a Kpop group in the U.S. I assume most, if not all of their songs, will be in English, which I don’t know. Kind of feels very un-Kpop to me. I think the reason all the agencies are doing it is nothing more than charting purposes and money because the U.S. is the largest music market in the world and with the exception of BTS, all of the other Kpop groups haven’t been able to have the same success here. Whatever groups debut here, they might end up having good music or be successful but I’m not sure I’ll consider them Kpop.

GG for guessing spring day :p It's taken me 3 hours to watch this so far LOL and that's as far as I've got

Justine MacDonald

RM once said that some Army said it was like seeing a unicorn when they first saw them in person and that's EXACTLY what it was like for me! I was like... "It's really them!" 😳 I was like that only 2 other times, when I saw MJ live and Prince for the 1st time in concert.😊

Tanya perez

😊😊😊💜💜💜 Lisa!! Heck yes thank you lol

John Reaves

Capsocorp? Couldn't read what it said on that mug.... lol

Thanks for posting this. I appreciate you doing the research and finding a translated version of this talk. I often get the question of why I like BTS or why are they SO famous. I start by mentioning how Bang PD and BTS were brought together by fate. As you noted, one would probably not been as influential without the other. Band PD gave BTS support and guidance they needed. He gave them license to disagree and argue/fight as long as they all resolved the issue together...which made them the family they are today. What I think about a lot is how different JK could have been if his members were jealous, mean, and resentful of him as the "golden" maknae instead of supportive, loving, and encouraging. He was 16 when they debuted (which meant he was probably 14 when he was a trainee), very shy, and very unsure of himself. They experienced bonding in their formative years...and faced hardship, and uncertainty together. As Jin said recently, the individual members continue to put their needs aside for the betterment of the group. Next, I say that ARMY is one of the main reasons why BTS is so big. BTS said ARMY started out walking behind them and supporting them but is now walking along side them. ARMY is like no other fandom in the world. Veteran ARMY has been with BTS from the beginning when they were really struggling...and new ARMY is now there to stand by the veterans and the guys. BTS puts out so much content. They talk to us after concerts and award shows instead of just going to afterparties, etc. AND they ALWAYS thank ARMY. As one reactor said...BTS throws out a crumb and ARMY takes it and runs with it...makes memes, writes articles, writes songs...then reactors take those ARMY created things and spreads them around even further. And ARMY is a family (we don't always see eye to eye, but at the end of the day we're family)...India ARMY can relate to US ARMY who can relate to K-ARMY. The fandom is united by their love of/respect for BTS. Sorry for this long rambling post. Thanks again...

susan

Ahh now I remember lol it looks kind of similar though? The room?

John Reaves
