that's super interesting, there was some stuff i didn't know and that i need to research later, thank you.
i've heard that she based the Ishvalans on the Ainu, but i've always found the politics surrounding Scar and the Ishvalans one of the few poorly handled things by the series (at least in the anime, haven't read the manga, tho i should because i love FMA). it's like Arakawa only used the Ainu because she's from there, but never really understood what concepts like imperialism, racism, settler colonialism and genocide were. so it's really odd and gladly surprising that you know all of this (i assume not from the series). i wish she could've translated the history better to the series and made much better points. it's really underwhelming some of the stuff she wrote about it, especially regarding Miles, pretty "both sides" and unoriginal, which is a shame because she's a great writer when it comes to characters and story. and not only the Ishvalans... i'm not going to spoil it for The Normies, but especially what happens with Amestris as a state in the end is also underwhelming.

i honestly don't know why they hate her. imo Atsuko is hilarious and one of my favs xd i don't think we're meant to take her too seriously (or the series as a whole, really). but imo the dub actress is not that good and doesn't act so over-the-top and endearing compared to the japanese one, so that might be it, that they feel she's genuinely a shit mom, when she's just extremely carefree and silly, she's a comic relief.
it's not a big deal anyways, but imo the hate towards her it's... odd xd

Who cares what I sound like lol that emoji statement is a non argument.
It’s suppose to be subtle the point of that panel is to give foreshadowing to something greater in the future, Kubo has literally stated himself “you need to re read the series several times and use some deduction or you’ll never understand Bleach”. That’s subjective to you my friend a lot of people are interested in Ginjo’s story because of the fact we have so much lore behind it. You don’t want Kubo to spoon feed backstories like any other shonen, it’s poetic and nuanced. It’s literally hinted at, the combat pass is his reason but also it’s a nuanced reasoning because there’s a double meaning behind that said combat pass.
You seem to think every single character needs to be super developed to tell a story, no writing is subjective, the way Kubo writes is heavily nuanced like I keep saying. The fullbringers backstories makes sense when you understand the thematic structure of Bleach. The nuanced conflict and core themes.
Buhhdist and eastern philosophy hinges on finding nirvana and freeing ourselves from the cycle as well as our lives finally coming to an end. And that how temporary things are are what make them important. And so many other principles that Ichigo PERFECTLY reflects when you also combine it with the very buddhist nature of the Bleach worlds (the literal realms of reincarnation for example)
Kubo’s ultimate message in many of these is how the ideas derived from Buddhism prevail against these philosophies and face nihilism differently. In fact, at the core of it, Bleach is a story not simply about death but how to tackle nihilism, how to find purpose. this is how fullbring arc does it too, Ginjo represents a sort of anti-theism, pure anarchy perspective.
every race/org of bleach represents different forms of hierarchy. Soul Society is feudal and reflects the underlying social hierarchies and philosophies of Japan past and present, Arrancar is natural order/survival of the fittest, xcution is anarchy/communism, quincy are fascists/self devouring
CFYOW is canon and IS a factor, since it quite literally has history and lore behind Tosen and Ginjo, as well as the Soul Society, Noble Families and Soul King himself. Not every single question has to be answered, this isn’t a story where it spoon feeds you information every second. Some things you’ll have to wait and see, others you’ll have to re read it and do research about the thematic writing. Why do you think there’s a bunch of analysis videos? Because Bleach is a story that takes time to understand. You could literally go down an entire rabbit hole just on the fullbringers alone. CFYOW is canon so yes it is part of a finale for Bleach that argument doesn’t work since it’s literally stated to be Canon. TYBW was RUSHED but the finale was good, common misconception that the finale was bad. The finale was how Kubo wanted to end Bleach.
Yes it was Kubo has stated even before writing Bleach he knew about TYBW and the finale. You can call me delusional but I think you’re misunderstanding the different writing aspects and choosing to ignore the fact CFYOW is canon and that many things are planned and happened for a reason.
Chad helps Ichigo by fighting the Guards, you seem to think that’s not enough, his story is already complete he doesn’t need to do anything more. The anime is also expanding on the side characters more. Take a look at Renji, Rukia, Uryu and Orihime you haven’t said anything about them so why is only Chad an issue when he already knows what he needs to do?
The issue with this argument is Chad HAS gotten stronger in which he is satisfied with. The ideals each character has manifests themselves and leads back to the core conslusions which makes Bleach cohesive the ideals support every aspect of the narrative more thoroughly than many other shows.
* Orihime has to deal with the pain of being left behind by her brother
* Uryu left vindictive after losing his grandfather to injustice
* Chad defines his entire personality based on his grandfathers kindness and ideals starting to be like him
* Ichigo is haunted by the fact he couldn’t save his mother watching his sisters grow up without a mom, and his father without his wife, Ichigo blames himself for that emptiness
Bleach’s other core idea of sincerity is self actualization
Ichigo and Chad are defined by how they stick out from society but rather than trying to blend in they stay true to themselves and eventually find people that accept them.
Renji and Byakuya need to learn to fight for what they actually believe in rather than what they’re told to believe in which is the core development for the gotei 13 as well
Izuru and Shuhei’s arcs are about doubling down on their own philosophy of their belief that the world is better without fighting
Simple Aizen didn’t need her powers therefore never giving her the chance to do so. With Ichigo, Aizen etc. You can’t accept the fact not every single thing has to a lead somewhere. But you choose to ignore the ones that do such as CFYOW is funny.
You can’t claim Deus Ex Machina if there is a literal reason and foreshadowing for it, just because you personally didn’t like it doesn’t make it what you say. Ichigo quite literally NEEDED his fullbring for TYBW lol you’re ignoring the significance of Fullbring now? What? The reason he has Fullbring abilities is because he trained for Fullbring lmao
Many characters are developed, just because they aren’t the main focus fighting the main bad guys doesn’t mean their writing does down the drain. There’s a load of nuance to Orihime as a character which I could also explain but The Normies probably only see her as a cry for help type of character when that’s OBJECTIVELY not true.

This is...I don't even know how to better phrase my thoughts, honestly. Instead of accepting that maybe someone else has a different view of what the story could have been you derail this once again into your own head canon territory where only you grasped "the true essence of Bleach". You unironically sound like that glasses emoji. "Erhm actually, it's very deep, that one panel of Tsukishima tells you a lot".
Yes, Kubo does do a lot of show, don't tell. However to claim that that one panel of Tsukishima being comforted by Ginjo is enough exposition is madness. If you want me to care about this guy, show me more of what makes him tick, tell me why he wants to crush the Soul Reapers. None of this stuff is present in the Lost Agent.
This arc shows a lot of signs of being rushed, near the end. And if it truly wasn't rushed (as you seem to claim) then that's even worse because you are left with a group of characters that are woefully unexplored and underdeveloped. CFYOW is a non-factor. Once again, I don't care that a novel was later published that explained some of the stuff that was missing here. When Lost Agent ended we were left with dozens of questions. Questions that TYBW didn't answer. The fact is Narita (the author of CFYOW) asked Kubo EXPLICITLY if he could show more of Ginjo's backstory in the novel. Meaning that contrary to your belief, CFYOW isn't any sort of grand finale for TYBW and was almost assuredly never planned at the time he was writing Lost Agent. I would argue it's simply a work of literature made to patch up any holes left behind the atrocious finale of TYBW.
Or are you now going to claim that the way TYBW ended was also always planned? Because at that point there is no discussion to be had here and you start to come off as a bit delusional. What we see now in the TYBW anime is I think much closer to what Kubo wanted to do with TYBW if he had more time or his shoulder injury wasn't so severe.
As for the humans, I'm not asking for Chad and Orihime to be suddenly stronger than Yamamoto. Don't twist my words. But I think there is always a healthy compromise to be had between them always being in the background and them steamrolling the universe. Once again, what does Chad do of importance in TYBW? You haven't answered me that question. Why have him accompany Ichigo everywhere if he's just going to stand there? What is his role then? You keep alluding to some hidden context and roles in the story but you refuse to give me any examples.
You say it doesn't matter that they want to get stronger, Kubo doesn't need to give them anything. My man, it's called story and character development. Mind I interest you in Chekhov's gun?
Chekhov's gun - is a narrative principle that states that every element in a story must be necessary and irrelevant elements should be removed. For example, if a writer features a gun in a story, there must be a reason for it, such as it being fired some time later in the plot.
Meaning that I, as a reader, expect that when one of the supposed members of the main cast tells me that he/she/they will get stronger, it actually happens later in the story. I wouldn't parade Sakura around as a shining example of good character development. Naruto (the manga/anime) has this same problem, where characters spout lines about wanting to be better/stronger/more useful but it ultimately yields few results. And don't tell me they can't get stronger because they're Fullbringers - Kubo is the author of the story (and he's writing a battle Shonen) so he can create an environment where they got stronger through a method. Watching Chad after his fight with Gantenbainne (afro arrancar) is a thoroughly frustrating experience.
This is the core of every good story - you show things, these things lead to satisfying developments and conclusions. Why bother with the scene where Orihime swears that she will use her powers to un-make Hogyoku? That went absolutely nowhere.
I'm not saying the sword wasn't foreshadowed. But as I already explained, Deus Ex Machinas can be hinted at before they happen. They are still very often poor narrative devices that strip away agency from actors within a story. Ichigo's Fullbring training only meant to power up the bad guys. He got his powers handed back not through his own personal efforts within the arc but from a shadowy 3rd side (Isshin, Urahara) that was being needlessly cryptic for 80 percent of the arc.
In my PERSONAL opinion, the story would have been stronger if the Soul Reapers simply took a hike for the duration of the arc and let the other underutilized characters shine a bit more (Chad, Orihime, and even Uryu at this point). How bout them fighting off the Xcution members before Isshin and Urahara show up with the blade, if the blade truly must be part of the equation? We could have had a beautiful moment where Ichigo starts to rely on people instead of always feeling like he is the one that needs to protect them. This arc reeks of wasted opportunities. It's not bad but it could have been so much better.
Look, this is my last message because honestly it is getting tiring to explain myself. Try to view things from a different perspective. Try to imagine that perhaps your view of the story might not be 100 percent perfect. I wouldn't say mine is completely ideal either. Fact is, only Kubo knows what was planned and what was not and the fact remains that characters that get permanently side-lined and bodied just to show how a powerful enemy is are frustrating to read/watch. Especially if those characters themselves always express a want to be better, to be stronger but they always come up short.

I really love this fight with Byakuya vs Tsukishima. Even though Tsukishima inserts himself into Byakuya's past it doesn't matter. Regardless of that, Tuskishima is still an enemy of Ichigo and that's all it takes for Byakuya to be able to cut him down. Also the fight itself pushes Byakuya to think of new strategies, get lost in the heat of battle, he gains a new appreciation over it. Great stuff.
Also yes, while the Fulllbringers do have interesting powers, they are scrubs (except Tsukishima and Ginjo). No matter their powers, they are still humans, they don't have the strength or durability of a soul reaper so they get dusted pretty quickly, which I enjoy. I wouldn't want our captains to struggle over these side characters. I like some of their abilities and fullbring is an interesting concept but I don't really like any of the characters outside of Tsuki and Ginjo.

The sword was not a Deus Ex Machina, as it was already foreshadowed within that arc at the beginning meaning Kubo had already planned to have that happen. It’s not unexpected when you see Isshin and Urahara talking and planning behind the scenes of this entire arc. Ichigo would NOT have been dead, due to the sole fact of Isshin and Urahara’s nature they knew everything that had been going on.
Orihime and Chad don’t need to get power ups to fight main enemies. They’re strong but just not at the level of the Captains and Ichigo, they don’t need to be. Their goal of wanting to become stronger to help doesn’t mean Kubo has to give them a huge power up to be able to fight main enemies their purpose is different within Bleach. Sakura also wanted to become strong that doesn’t mean she should get a power up to be able to fight Pain. And Orihime does A LOT in the next arc anyways. Chad himself is as strong as he can get his purpose is to help Ichigo in anyway he can, you want him to fight the Schutzstaffel? lol he’s a fullbringer he has already trained his powers to be at their strongest.
Lost agent follows his theme of despair, which is crucial for TYBW. Essentially yes it is, his wanting his Shinigami powers back and Hollow powers fusing together is essentially him understanding those parts of himself. The Blade is him accepting everything fully. The dangai narrative wasn’t full acceptance he needed the power so in that moment he accepted the idea of losing his powers. Compared to the end of the OG series where Ichigo has understood his powers merging together poetically representing his acceptance of them. This is also shown that he no longer needs his mask
Ginjo being important for CFYOW is not a non factor, when there are many things being foreshadowed. The novels purpose is to finish the lore of Bleach that Kubo didn’t get to add on. It’s still objectively CANON, that’s the point of Kubo’s writing style “show don’t tell”, everything is left up to interpretation, Tosen’s story is seemingly complete but also has way more lore behind it. I’m not gonna go into detail with what Ginjo had planned since it’s a spoiler. Kubo’s style is very subtle, the flashback to Kid Tsukishima has so much lore and plot points behind it a simple backstory wouldn’t work, Kubo did the same thing hinting towards Tosen’s friend’s death but leaving it up to interpretation because you could go down an entire rabbit hole of different nuanced plot points and lore. That’s the reason CFYOW and the novels is so important it literally binds everything together but also expands the main story drastically. Kubo’s story is filled with foreshadowing and nuanced writing, example is Ukitake being foreshadowed in the Soul Society by Aizen, Szayelaporro Granz and Cien Granz, or even the sixth class foreshadowing.

Deus Ex Machina - an unexpected power or event saving a seemingly hopeless situation, especially as a contrived plot device in a play or novel.
The sword and the Soul Reapers are a Deus Ex Machina, they arrive at the last second to "save the day". Ichigo would probably be dead/brainwashed if the Soul Reapers haven't shown up at that exact moment.
Look man, I know you love Bleach, I can feel the love and passion from your tone. I do too, it's one of my favourite Shonen stories. I read Bleach, many many times, (I even own the manga volumes) but I still don't like this part of the story. I'm not sure how me not enjoying some decisions Kubo makes. makes me ignorant of the entire picture. The fact is that Fullbring has very little plot relevance going forward (as in the actual Fullbring ability of Ichigo's not the overarching plot of Fullbring/Lost Agent). This arc serves its purpose fine and it has some neat ideas but it simply isn't perfect.
I dislike people acting like Kubo is this 4D chess mastermind that always planned everything from the very beginning and can do no wrong. He is a human and was under hellish weekly schedule when he was writing the manga. It's okay to admit sometimes that some plot points were simply changed along the way. For instance, he even mentioned in an interview that the Soul Society hierarchy and Captains were all concepts he came up with later. So I really don't buy this thing where he apparently planned the entire Lost Agent arc from the get go. Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. The fact is that even you don't know.
To me, it seemed like something or someone changed his mind half-way when readers became disinterested by the plot in the human world. It makes sense to bring in the Soul Reapers who are much more popular than the Fullbringers. I have the right to criticize things I find to be sub-par, in my opinion. In. My. Opinion. I'm not discarding your opinion, I simply do not agree with your and David Butt's takes. You are still entitled to your stance.
You accuse me of not reading between the lines but you, yourself simply refuse to look at things from my side. The human characters (Chad, Orihime) are a part of a shonen BATTLE manga. They specifically say how they want to get stronger and stand with Ichigo side by side. Is this not a expression of someone who wants to be more powerful (e. g. get a powerup)? What does Chad do for the remainder of the story? Fight statues with Ganju? Are we really pretending that this is the ideal handling of this character? I could see that Orihime has other roles in the story but Chad literally gets side-lined in the arc where he was supposed to shine.
Also, the Lost Agent is definitely not a story of him accepting both his sides together. It is a story of him being depressed about his state of being powerless and his eventual decision of wanting his powers back to protect his friends. That acceptance you speak of is literally The Blade is Me in TYBW and Deicide in Arrancar where he fights the merged Tensa and White together. His fullbring fused his powers together but that was due to him accepting them when he trained in Dangai. Not gonna lie Ichigoat, you tend to invent your own headcanon and then present it as a fact.
Ginjo being important for CFYOW is a non-factor here. First of all, the fact that his backstory only gets explained in a novel not written by Kubo (yes, I know he was a supervisor) years after his death in the manga is a bit of a trainwreck. If you only watch the manga/anime you have no clue what Ginjo's deal was. He brought some outcasts together to form Xcution but for what? He stole Ichigo's powers...for what purpose? He says he was betrayed by Soul Reapers...okay, care to elaborate? So what's your objective...to overthrow Soul Society? With a bunch of humans? The more you thing about it the more things start to fall apart. Tsukishima gets a single panel where Ginjo approaches him when he was a child, which seems like a perfect place for a flashback but then...nothing. Almost like Kubo and his editors decided to rush the tail end of this arc. Once more, this is my opinion.

Probably not entirely for the same reason, but given current events Rana cracking up at "turning the state democratic" for accountability purposes really hit hard XD.
By now I'm sure many have screamed it at you, but Roy learned his flame alchemy from Master Hawkeye (or rather the tatoo on Riza's back was the key to it), and Envy was not created by the events in Xerxes.
Lastly Pat is right. Soldiers that say no in that situation in reality will most likely be Court Martialed and prosecuted under UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military justice). Certainly for disobeying a direct order but also possibly trumped up to treason (which at war time can actually land the death penalty), and there's no telling how the unit will handle that before/until it even gets to the formal process. So who knows how extreme Amestrice would've done it.

Mr. Tsukishima's fullbring really is wild, like it's not memory manipulation, he's not changing memories. He's literally changing the past of whatever he cuts. That's not a changed memory, he was there. There are no "false" memories, that happened in the past, he actually put himself there. And he even gets information because he sees the past of whatever he cuts. He. Was. There.
His power is not memory manipulation, it just affects memories as a byproduct. "Book of the End" is time manipulation. Specifically Past manipulation of whatever he cuts. It's actually such a wild ability.

No it doesn’t actually if you read Bleach you’d know this arc was crucial for many things. First of all Soul Society was Ichigo understanding his Soul Reaper powers, Arrancar was Ichigo understanding his hollow powers, Fullbring is the amalgamation of both essentially him accepting those parts of himself fully. His “fullbring” shikai and BanKai aren’t just regular shikai and BanKai’s his fullbring combines both together this is also VERY crucial with what happens in TYBW. Explain what Deus Ex Machina’s because I guarantee you there’s a reason for it there’s a ton of misconceptions with Bleach. This is very good storytelling, a core theme of Bleach is stagnation vs evolution in this case Ichigo’s steadfastness which is stagnation toward his beliefs changes people and systems directly reflecting his influence on Yamamoto, then coming there represents their change. They also are there for an entirely different reason with Ginjo another huge plot point leading into CFYOW. The human characters purpose isn’t to get power ups and fight the main enemies, they’re important in other aspects of the story. Kubo actually has planned Bleach from the beginning including TYBW and it’s ending. He literally implements foreshadowing that not everybody sees until you reread it and says you have to use some deduction and connect the pieces or you’ll never understand the story which is true. Ginjo’s line about Isshin is important, Ginjo’s story about the combat pass is important, Ichigo’s despair is very important for later etc

#Sunday Rundown
So unfortunately for Bleach they removed a fair bit of the backstory for the Fullbringers except for Riruka. We got much fuller ones for each of them.
Jackie, Dirty Boots, lost her family because her father stole the boots that she uses as her Fullbring and then her family was murdered because of her father doing crime. They also pointed out that Jackie would keep the boots clean because she loved them so much and they first became dirty with her brother's blood.
Kutsuzawa, Time Tells no Lies, inherited his pocket watch from his late father and when he realized that whatever he wanted would happen once he got the watch he started worshiping it. He then decided to murder his wife with his Fullbring and once he did he felt guilty and so his Fullbring took his eye because his Fullbring is 'a contract with god not a prayer'. He's not the most sympathetic yeah.
Yukio, Invaders Must Die, had a learning disability/a speech impediment that kept him from talking at a young age until he was a teen and as a result his parents locked him in a large room rather than actually interact with him in a way that he could with them. The anime unfortunately reduces that one down to just 'I'm mad mom and dad didn't play with me' rather than the actual abuse that Yukio had to explain his motivations.

Inserting himself into Byakuya’s past without understanding him. He was his friend that was always there for him. But, Ichigo was the one who confronted Byakuya when he was in the wrong, stopped him from making the biggest mistake of his life aka Rukia. Because of that, alternate past Byakuya believed more in Ichigo than his supporting friend Tsukishima. In a sense, Ichigo was still a better friend to past Byakuya than Tsukishima. Tsukishima was Byakuya’s friend but he cut Tsukishima down for the sole reason that he was an enemy of Ichigo even when EVERYBODY else was losing their minds…Put some respect on his name
I missed the Memories of Nobody reaction 😭 also have you guys seen the first episode of TYBW yet..👀

I don't think I've seen anyone mention this, but the ending credits of the first episode of TYBW is a nice little tribute to old Bleach with some sick music. Highly recommend.

I missed the movie livestream and TYBW is only having 1 ep per a week? NOOOOOOOOOO!!!! I need cousin Shu to make you guys remember that you want to do double drops. While I don't mind the change and you've probably explained your reasoning before even reading this comment, it does help to keep in line with the 4th and final cour next year. Although, I will recommend for you guys to double drop the first two episodes, but most definitely episodes 11 and 12. Once you get there, you'll know why. Anyway, onto these episodes. These fights are the definition of coughing baby vs hydrogen bomb with the exception of Byakuya vs Tsukishima. I cannot tell you the euphoria I felt when I saw Byakuya tear that man asunder when I was reading the manga, I gave him a standing ovation. Can we also just take a minute to acknowledge that the Fullbringers are full on sociopaths, with the exception of Jackie. Giriko killed his wife, Yukio drove his parents to suicide and Riruka kidnapped a whole ass dude. Oh yeah, if Rana is reading this, congrats if you're finally able to pronounce 'Byakuya' properly but you're gonna struggle in the next arc, I'm so sorry in advance. Btw, I lowkey think that Watchdog has bugged your studio, he keeps feeding us info in the discord like an FBI informant and it cracks me up how people keep coming to him for updates.

While Amestrians are clearly German coded (their Aryan features are obvious, with the blond hair and deep blue eyes, and also having their head of state called Fuhrer), the Ishvalan War of Extermination was not inspired by WW2. It all goes back to the Ainu genocide, at the hands of the Japanese government. Hiromu Arakawa (FMA's author) is from Hokkaido, a very cold region in the north of Japan (this will also be relevant again in future episodes, set in a specific place in Amestris). Hokkaido was originally inhabited by the Ainu ethnic group. The Japanese population... didn't really like the Ainu. So much so, they used to call their territory "uncivilized people’s land". The name Hokkaido came to be only after the Japanese Government colonized the place. At first, it was only about somewhat minor acts of invasion, which were still enough to reduce the Ainu population, since they came in contact with new diseases brought forth by the invaders, which their bodies simply couldn't handle. Still, the darkest period was during the Meiji Administration (1868-1912) when the Japanese government forcefully exercised itself over both the Ainu population and its territory, leading to the legal eradication of all Ainu rights and to an invasive initiative, encouraging ethnic Japanese to settle in Hokkaido. Sounds familiar? Such discriminatory policies led to a massive population increse, with Hokkaido’s intrusive inhabitants soaring to over a million people, leaving the Ainu both marginalized and vastly outnumbered by settlers. What's worse, is how the Japanese population didn't simply want to eradicate the Ainu, but also their culture. Many traditional practices were banned (like hunting and fishing), and the Ainu language was also declared almost universally illegal. The native population was encouraged to pick up agriculture, to practice it in the land that the Japanese Administration "so kindly" gave them. Such territory, of course, was extremely small. Once again... sounds familiar? Different times and places, but same colonizing bullshit. Interestingly enough, Hiromu Arakawa herself has both Japanese and Ainu blood.

#SundayRundown Yu Yu Hakusho You guys said in the other rundown that you've made it to episode 6 in recordings so you've seen more of Yusuke's mom Atsuko. It's never really mentioned in the anime, but she's 29 which means she had Yusuke at 15. Although it doesn't fully excuse her care free lifestyle as a parent, she's still pretty young.

The problem I have is that Ichigo could have just done nothing and his powers would have returned by Rukia either way. This really makes the whole Fullbring training be pointless. The only thing this arc actually changes is that Ichigo now has a differently designed Shikai and Bankai. He doesn't even use Fullbring when he fights. In fact, as I have stated, him attaining Fullbring actually made things worse because he powered up the bad guys. Also, Deus Ex Machinas can be foreshadowed, that still makes them Deus Ex Machinas. Oh shit, Ichigo lost his powers again! Ah, nevermind he got saved by a glowing sword. Is Ichigo kicking Ginjo's ass cool? Do the Shinigami appear cool? Yes (well maybe expect Rukia). That still doesn't make it good storytelling imo. This was finally the arc where the human characters should have gotten the power-ups they needed to be a real threat in the future. We could have gotten interesting matchups between characters that are less utilized.
Instead we got the Shinigami appearing and solving all the problems in 5 minutes.
As a side-note, your statement that "it was 100% planned from the beginning"...come on now. This is a weekly shonen manga adaptation. Things change on the fly all the time. I could point to 4 other things in this arc that seemed to have been foreshadowing something but went nowhere. That Rukia, Isshin and Urahara scene could have been something entirely different initially.

I need to explain in detail Tsukishima's ability so you comprehend how broken it is. This are things from the manga and things said by Kubo.
As you can see, he can insert himself in the past of objects and living beings but that past must make sense, so when he cut Byakuya to become his master Tsukishima also changed and became powerfull enough so that he could have taught Byakuya.
If you remember Ichigo was beating him earlier but when fighting Byakuya first he cut his sword to learn all of it's weak points and be able to strike Byakuya then he became his master and was given a power boost and all the kwnoledge he needed. Also his ability could work on anyone and I mean ANYONE.
Also if you're wondering how strong the fullbringers really are, they're around low to mid lieutenant level, except for Ginjo and Tsukishima. They still have human bodies and capabilities but their abilities let them hurt or fight stronger oponents.

Congratulations on finishing Bleach, as you guys start on Ten Thousand Years Blood Wars, i would recommend at least watching the first movie of Bleach, Memories of Nobody.
I know I recommended it and suggested the films were not canon, but recently Tite Kubo has confirmed that the movies, or at least the first movie is canon or semi canon (concept within the movie). So if you get a chance, watch the film before the 3rd cour/Season of Bleach.
Back on the subject of the Fullbringers, in my honest opinion, there was no way that they were going to win and defeat the Captains and Vice Captain level Shinigami. I mean look at Chad... he never won any major fight against opponents of that level! All Ichigo's power did, was improve their efficiency and to wear their powers and maybe help them prolong its activation, since Ichigo's Bankai isn't technically the fastest (that would be Gin) but rather the most efficient Bankai that can maintain prolong activation, puts less strain, burden and energy drain on the user than any other bankai. So obviously the Fullbringers wouldn't really gain massive power ups as you would expect, just better performance and utility.

While I personally would love it for them to keep doing 2 episodes, if they do they'll be done in April and I doubt the show will come back any earlier than the fall 2025 season so they'll have to wait anywhere from 6 months to a year in between. Also, remember they're watching the dub so they'll be 5-6 weeks behind anyway.

I disagree it was clear to me from the beginning that this is how the arc was supposed to go down. The Soul Society characters coming back to fight the Fullbringer’s and give Ichigo back his powers was set up since the very beginning of this arc. In literally the first or second episode of this arc he starts hearing Rukia from his Soul Badge, and this happens again during his training with the Fullbringer’s. Ichigo’s father and Urahara doing something suspicious in the background has been in place from the beginning of the Arc as well. Also if you’re watching the anime there’s that scene at the end of 354 that was brought up earlier than in the manga which clearly shows Urahara and Isshin going to Rukia to give Ichigo his powers back. It was 100% planned from the beginning. That being said you can totally dislike that the Soul Society characters come back to take focus again it's a perfectly valid opinion to have. I also really disliked the arc on a first read-through via the manga, but my opinion on it, and the ending of the arc, has only grown more favorable as time's gone on.

#sundayrundown Not really related to this set but just wanted to inform y'all that some characters are gonna look slightly different in TYBW because now they're following how the characters look in the manga. So things like eye colors, hair colors and Ichigo's spiritual pressure colors might throw y'all off at first.

Man, the Fullbringers really didn't stand a chance, huh? Since this arc wasn't very popular in the manga, there is a rumour that Kubo was advised by his editors to bring in the much more popular Soul Reapers to "clean up" the arc and move on to more exciting things. We see that Chad and Orihime get manipulated and then knocked out immediately so they contribute nothing to the final fight which is very weird because narratively they seemed to be taking the spotlight in this part of the story. Ichigo's powers also come back not by his own efforts and through his Fullbring but by a Deus Ex Machina spirit sword that powers him up well beyond the antagonists' reach. If you think about it, his Fullbring only served to power up Ginjo and the others, which is kind of funny.
To add insult to injury, for whatever reason, the anime spends multiple episodes on meaningless filler and characters vaguely talking about nothing, just to cut out almost all of the Fullbringers backstories out of Episode 364. This makes them even more one note and cartoony compared to the manga where all of them at least got a page or two of dedicated flashbacks. If nothing else, PLEASE read Chapter 471. It is criminal that out of all of the things they could have omitted THIS is what the anime chose to do. The Fullbringers are heavily underdeveloped, so to strip away even the bare minimum the manga gave us is I think a baffling decision.
Sorry for being kind of negative this week but the tail end of this arc is I think it's weakest point. A lot of setup but not a lot of payoff I'm afraid. Here is the link to the chapter:

(Please please read the chapter, it will take you 5-10 minutes tops)

I'm thinking it might be so that they don't catch up with the anime and then have to wait 6 months to a year in between the end of cour 3 and cour 4. If they continue watching with 2 episodes per week they'll catch up in mid-April, and then have to wait until either Fall 2025, or maybe not even until Winter 2026, because they took like a year off between Cours 2 and 3.
David Butt
2024-11-27 16:01:52 +0000 UTC
I imagine the fact the series isn't over would be a factor. If they do 2 per week, they'll watch cour 1 and 2 in three months. Cour 3 isn't done yet but would take another six weeks, however cour 4 doesn't even have a release date yet.
For added context cour 2 started 7 months after cour 1 ended and 3 started over a year after 2 ended.

Now that you’re almost done with the original Bleach anime, I’d like to recommend watching the Jump Festa recap for Bleach in between it and Thousand Year Blood War. It’s in Japanese and there aren’t any subtitles, but it’s set to some of the opening themes and it’s really cool. You can find it by searching Jump Festa Bleach Recap 2022 into Youtube, and it’s a 15-16 minute video.
