This and dream warriors (#3) are the only ones you need to watch fr. I wouldn’t even watch 2 it’s just too strange and on the nose with its messaging

Honestly, I'd avoid leaning too much into trope analysis like the stuff pointed out in Cabin in the Woods.
It's especially important because these classic films you guys are watching ESTABLISHED those tropes. Calling them out ahead of time as though they're all formulaic or have the same intended goals can create spoilers for those that don't know about them, or cheapen the experience and create misinterpretations (the way that imitators cheapen those ideas by turning them into popular cliches and tropes that lose their power).
For example, the pioneering early slashers never moralized sex and drugs nor were they cautionary tales about those things, there were just some unconsciously-but-organically occurring patterns that later were consciously integrated (this is when the moralizing started to come into play).
When and if you guys get to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, don't think of it as a formulaic slasher, think of it as a very bold, experimental, cerebral film that was so effective, everybody else started copying it and by doing so, made it feel a lot less intelligent/original than it is.
And it's always good to remind yourself that the characters in early slasher films not only don't know they're in a horror film, nor did they nor their fictional parents grow up watching these films, but when it comes to the 1970s, remember that even basic knowledge we have about serial killers in general was just BARELY permeating into the zeitgeist so don't be so quick to judge. They didn't grow up in a time when serial killer culture was pop.
Thanks if you actually read this.

Love this it’s a great movie. As for others in the franchise to watch you should 100% check out Nightmare 3 Dream Warriors, 4 The Dream Master, and New Nightmare I think those are the best ones. Nightmare 2 Freddy's Revenge also might be worth watching as well

It's weird now, every time I see this movie title all I think of is the Fresh Prince & Jazzy Jeff song. A nightmare on my street.

Such a classic for a reason, Freddy back when he was scary and before he became a comedian with one liners.
I went to a convention a couple of years ago and got a picture with Robert Englund (Freddy) and Heather Langenkamp (Nancy) together and Robert even had the Freddy glove on.

Yes! I love Freddy. Elm Street has the most creative series I’ve ever seen, always reinventing dream interactions.

Also it's kind of niche and not really talked about so it wouldn't be good for a reaction, but on your own time you should absolutely watch The Gate. I wanna say it's '87?
