#Sunday Rundown.
I'm here for Blue Eye Samurai and i'm so happy you guys are reacting to it. Blue Eye Samurai is seriously the best show of 2023, and for me, it's on the same level as Arcane. This show gets better and better with each episode. The animation is stunning, the story and characters are amazingly well-written.
I hope you will enjoy it as mush as i did, and i can't wait to see your reactions.

When I hear the legendary ost 'B13A' all I think about is Aizen getting face palmed by Ichigo across the city, that's one of the best moments lol the disrespect. He basically said: "I'm not asking you b*tch, I'm telling you we going somewhere else." I love how unfazed, calm and cool Ichigo is the whole time. Gin's betrayal was one of the craziest plot twists. Crazy how back in soul society arc at first it was like Gin was the bad guy and Aizen was the good guy. This really made his character goated. Gin and Rangiku would have been the perfect ship. RIP Gin Ichimaru, the Itachi of Bleach. 🐐

Great point! There's actually more to that. In Japanese, we focus on sounds and rhythms as we call "Mora", rather than syllables the way english works. Ban-kai is 2 syllables. But the word "Bankai" is actually 4 moras. Ba-n-ka-i. So the letter "N" is not connected to "Ba". It has it's own hiragana "ん" and needs to be anunciated. That is the real reason why you hear a pause between "Ba" and "Kai". Because the "N" is being stressed. But it will be difficult for non-japanese people to hear the ん sound because their ears aren't trained to hear mora. As American Asians like myself it's even difficult for me, because we grew up trained to hear syllables.

Oh yes that's true. However as someone who has worked in production before I can confirm that actors and voice actors work together with a writer, the producer and the director. There's never really a case where the VA is just strictly following what is being given to them with no say or input. It is team effort, and they may also have discussions before the director's final say. And even after the director applies the line, the end product still needs to go through what they call a fine cut after the editing process involving the supervisor editor, the main director and needs approval by the executive producer.

Some details the FMAB Crew probably don't remember or never caught:
-Roy and his crew were originally from Eastern Command but were only recently transfered to Central were they are now (same location that Hughs, and Armstrong have been stationed).
So while Roy does out rank Hughs and Armstrong they are NOT his subordinates like Hawkeye, Havoc, Falman, Breda, and Fury.
-Hughs realized "something" so the the Homunculous killed him. That caused his best friend Roy to investigate the murder, which the Homunculous don't want. So they set up Rose as the killer with the intent of making Roy stop investigating
-A Homunculous is an artificially/man made human being.

The swastika is the japanese character "Ban" in "Bankai" (卍解). On its own it's just a buddhist swastika character, but Bankai is translated as "Final Release" so in this case it also takes the meaning "Final". I think Ichigo has it on his sword just because he's the main character and his Bankai is supposed to be the most iconic one.

This is why I love Aizen, and the way Kubo chooses to utilize him. Not only is he a great villain, but the way the plot revolves around him makes him seem completely insurmountable; as if the anime/manga itself, and we the fans, are mere instruments of his will. So to FINALLY see him get absolutely dog-walked by a stoic Ichigo is one of the most satisfying climaxes to an anime arc.
---
Someone said this in the YouTube comments, but part of Gin's strategy was a strategic release of his bankai. Since it doesn't make his sword insanely huge and crazy, he could deploy it against Ichigo while Aizen wasn't looking, and just keep it out from then on until he could use for the assassination attempt, without having to say the word "bankai".
---
I didn't remind y'all to check out the post credit scenes in that compilation I gave you before you got here. You should definitely watch the ones for 307, 308, and 309 in particular. 307 has the last Arrancar Encyclopedia and a farewell to Gin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g52msKXvh0M&list=PLTC8hqAnJ5TJ8E3k-I1ZC_Knq38dK-Y_E
As for 308 and 309, they have a 2-part connected post credits scene between the two episodes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD3p1h8FVfg & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qnhyN0VlE8. You should definitely make sure everyone sees it, so no one is asking where the hell Kon is during the next arc. 😛

#SundayRundown Ichigo didn't actually discard his spiritual pressure for physical strength. That is just how Aizen is rationalizing the situation. In a previous episode, it was explained that when someone is on a high enough tier of power, those below them cannot sense their power. In Ichigo's current state, he is so powerful that Aizen can't even sense him.

Clearing the confusion on the flashback of Gin saying sorry; Navi was right, it is a flashback of when Gin left Soul Society with Aizen and Tosen in season 3. The yellow light is called "Negacion" in which the menos grande use to rescue comrades.
The dub voice actor messed up twice...in season 3 he says "So long Rangiku, maybe next time." In this ep 308, it changed to "So long Rangiku, sorry about that." But it wasn't meant to be a casual sorry, so I blame the voice actor for that. Because originally in the manga chapter 178 what Gin said was "Good bye Rangiku, I'm sorry."
He also apologized for not being able to get back a part of Rangiku's soul that Aizen took. It was that pink energy he held in his hand, which was contributed to empowering the Hogyoku. It's almost like she was spiritually violated and had her innocence stripped away.
In ep 308, Rangiku wakes up on the roof and says "I know this feeling, Hakufuku." Hakufuku is a kido spell that disorients and knocks a person unconscious. That is what Gin used on her.

Don't think anyone has mentioned it yet, but the swastika, while also being all of the things you mentioned, is also the first part of "Ban Kai", written as "卍解". It's roughly translated to "Final Release". Ban = Final, Kai = Release. WHICH IS WHY THE PAUSE IS SO IMPORTANT

#SUNDAYRUNDOWN Bleach, we need a counter for the amount of times Suraj or Chris are confidently wrong about something and gaslight Rana or Navi into thinking they were wrong. But yeah this is the peak of the aizen saga, ichigo completed his latest off screen training to give him the power up needed to surpass this opponent because each power up is only good for beating one boss before he needs the next one. It’s the tried and true formula for bleach but I’ll be damned if it doesn’t work every time. If there’s one thing to be said about bleach it’s that it has style, the epic struggle between fashion week and hot topic.

RIP Gin Ichimaru, such a great character. I wish he got more screen time throughout the show but he's a fan favorite for a reason. Its crazy he was willing to take such a long and dark path just to get close to Aizen and kill him. This things he's had to do to keep up his bad guy persona (cutting Hiyori literally in half, etc.)
Also, navi and rana were totally right about that flashback. That was from the end of Soul Society arc when Gin, Aizen and Kaname escape. The yellow light is the menos grande rescuing them.
Just before Gin ascends, he says to Rangiku "too bad, i wish i could be your captive a little bit longer... so long Rangiku....I'm sorry" and he says it surprisingly sincere. Its easy to look over it at first watch through but means a lot more once you find out his full character arc. Great reaction and thanks for the 3 episodes!.

BLEACH #SUNDAYRUNDOWN
I absolutely love Kubo's foreshadowing. Kamishini no Yari (God-Killing Spear). It was in front of anyone who knows Japanese or is willing to look up translations.
Gin's Bankai exists solely to kill Aizen and it would have worked if the Hogyoku wasn't something that defied logic, due to being created from THAT (can’t spoil the novels) The symbolism of Gin's Shikai and Bankai names. The Shikai being God's spear, showing how he seems to side with Aizen. While the Bankai is the God killing spear, showing his true goal which was to kill Aizen.
Speaking on Novels they also reveal what Aizen actually took from Rangiku now I don’t know if it would be considered a spoiler but I’ll play it safe and not say it.
Also notice how Gin’s bankai turns his blade to dust just like Rangiku’s Haineko 👀 there's so many layers and nuance to Bleach it can be hard to catch. In fact little note Kubo stated he divides foreshadowing in levels, the ones he wants every reader to see, the ones he wants 1 out of 4, and 1 out of 10 to see, and the ones he wants 1 out of 1000 to see. He wants people to think "maybe I'm not the only one noticing that". He also states "long time foreshadowing is all disconnected, you have to read ALL of Bleach and use some deduction or you will never connect the pieces. He wanted to set it up in a way where you can reread the story and find new discoveries every time.
The TYBW arc as well as the novels (which will probably get adapted into an anime) will answer all your questions

#sundayrundown(Bleach)- This is so random but I starting being suspicious of Gin when I played the Bleach DS game 3rd Phantom and the main character (who was his childhood friend) point blank asked him why he was working for Aizen and he completely evaded the question and left 😭
Regarding what Aizen took from Rangiku, It was something more important than spiritual pressure but if you want to find out, I highly recommend reading the Can't Fear Your Own World light novels after the Thousand Year Blood War anime ends. You also find out more about Tousen's motivations and Dark history of the soul society.
Also, Gin's Apology was when he left Soul Society 😭

It is literally in the manga, so no it isn't filler. Do you not know what the word filler means in the context of anime? Filler just means it wasn't in the manga so it doesn't progress the story. The fullbringer arc was in the manga. It just sucks, but that doesn't mean it's filler.

There is something very poetic with Ichigo's character arc, which is about protecting but also about finding balance. He has always rejected his powers, first he said he never wanted the ability to see ghosts but learnt to lived with it, then when he became a soul reaper he didn't want to do the job but ended up accepting the responsability and his soul reaper side to save Rukia.
Then when he discovered his Hollow side he rejected and supressed that side of him until he needed it's power to save Orihime and came to a somewhat acceptance of it. But after what happened with Ulquiorra he once more rejected that side of him and disrupted the balance he had.
But now he has to confront everything that he is in order to save everyone, and by gaining that balance he will grow as an individual and finally accept who he is. It's for stuff like this that Ichigo is sometimes refered as the Spiderman of shonen, a kid who never wanted power or possessed an overarching goal, but who whas given huge responiabilities and does his best to protect the things he loves.

Bleach #SundayRundown
Did not expect the triple drop, a surprise to be sure but a welcomed one. I never thought about Gin all that much, but this was probably the best swansong I've seen a character go out to in this show at least. "Kill 'em, Kamishini No Yari" is one of the coldest lines we hear(in both the sub and dub), Doug Erholtz absolutely nailed his delivery and we still mourn Gin to this day. Seeing Rangiku cry over his body and Ichigo pull up with a dope new soundtrack(Chokkaku) was diabolical. It's a heavy rock instrumental version of Number 1, a fitting theme with his new threads. This pull up game against Aizen here is one of the greatest that I've seen ever, I've watched this scene countlessly over the past 14 years and it never gets old. I also want to note, as Chris said, that Ichigo's nonchalant attitude is when his character is at his peak, we don't often see a fully confident Ichigo but when we do, he is up there with Yusuke as shonen protagonists go. Furthermore, there are some call-backs to the Soul Society arc. One was when Aizen disregarded Ichigo's abilities surpassing his own as 'miracles', much like what Byakuya did, identically if anything. Another was when Ichigo stopped Aizen's sword with his hand, much like what Aizen did to him back then. Witnessing Aizen be helpless for once in this series was so damn satisfying, as much as I enjoy his character. He flew too close to the sun, or should I say the moon ;)

As a few people have mentioned, Navi and Rana were completely right. The flashback of Gin apologising was when the 3 traitors were leaving soul society in the Negacion light (which is why it was yellow, not because of it being a flashback). He didn’t go into why he apologised because Aizen was stood right next to him. The flashback to Rukon district with young Gin is showing a part of Rangiku’s soul was fed to the Hogyoku, as shown in the Turn Back the Pendulum arc when Aizen was making all those people disappear, which it’s implied is why Gin swore vengance. To get back what was taken from her.

As you know Aizen stole a part of Rangiku's spiritual power to strengthen his Hyogoku. Gin witnessed his men handing over the Hyogoku to him. Gin concluded that they were the ones who attacked Rangiku which was true and yes Gin loved Rangiku but he knew to defeat Aizen he needs to get close to him. Hence he also kept his distance from her. It's a huge sacrifice he made. He knew he has sinned just to achieve his goal which is why he says sorry to her because even after all this he could not return what was taken from her. This is a tragic love story.
The fact that in the Soul Society Arc he was pretending to be a guy who hated Aizen while actually was a follower of Aizen BUT was actually a Aizen hater is some next level play by him. The dedication of him to spend his entire life since his childhood just to maybe, possible, sneak Aizen one day is just awesome.
"Goodbye Rangiku. I'm sorry"
-Gin's last words to Rangiku were indeed said at Sokyoku Hill before being blipped to Hueco Mundo and not on the rooftop as Suraj and Chris tried to convince Rana and Navi. It was evident from that moment that there was a much deeper hidden connection between the two of them.
Fun fact: Gin's Bankai name hints towards his betrayal of Aizen. His Shikai "Shinso" means "god spear". His bankai, "Kami shini no yari" means "God killing spear", which refers to his attempt on Aizen's life. Even more interestingly, in the manga, these run of chapters were called "Deicide", as in the act of killing a god.
In the manga, at the end of the chapter where Gin died, there's a sketch of a snake laying dead (Gin), a cat mourning over it (Rangiku), while there's a butterfly (Aizen) in the background, then suddenly a black ray (Ichigo) appeared behind the butterfly

When they were in school together the body suit they were wearing made them look like someone else and their spiritual pressure would have been hidden because of those said body’s. Ps of course the yakuza has guns they are still a criminal organization. Watch anime man’s video of him interviewing a “former” member it’s really educational.
