Hello guys!
Here is the process video and file for the last post's exploration about fabric. This time, you'll find a different approach in terms of composition, not a crazy perspective or full body, but I still keep some small points I usually use when creating art. Although I was only exploring fabric, I pushed the perspective of the characters' poses by drawing a three-dimensional square on top and adjusting the shape towards that guide. This way, I add a nice touch to the shape.
Stylization requires simplification of real subjects in order to alter complex fundamentals in the composition. If those subjects remain too complex in your interpretation, it could be a nightmare. Besides, it looks more interesting when you offer an alternative version of reality. This is a suggestion based on my experience, you are free to try a different approach.
I must say, I spent 80% of the time in the drawing, color, and costume design phase. The other 20% was dedicated to the values work, which is the volume and lighting for the fabric definition inside the silhouette. You will understand once you check the video.
Back in 2014, I used to paint daily studies of women and statues. During that time, I learned to do a quick render for volume-defining values with soft and hard edges. For hard edges, I used the lasso tool and a brush called Farba, which is currently part of my brush set and is called "Farba 2". For soft values, I just used two brushes similar to the ones in my current brush set called "Okragla textura 6" for skin texture and "柔角 250 1" just for general soft shadows.
Here are some examples from back in 2014:

I could spend more time on the shadowing phase, but you can build a pretty decent render in a couple of minutes. Take a look at the video and give it a try! I'll be pinning some fabric draping references in the "fashion" board for you to explore. This is a very important part of character design creation since you might be doing all kinds of costumes throughout your career, so let's tackle this subject early in the process.
