[Early Access + Uncut] Cabin in the Woods (Horror)

Comments

I don't think they got the humor element of this as much as they would have if they had seen other horror movies first

AnEnthusiasticKoala

Two things to consider in order to decode this move: one is that it is very meta and two that Sigourney:s character is named The Director.

Henrik Holst

Good movie but feel like some of the others that were on the list should have been watched first where they could of picked up on all the references which is what is so cool about this movie.

Angelo Fuchs

1) Season 1 of Buffy is the first time Joss played with the idea for this movie. Do you remember when Xander almost walked down a hallway covered in swastikas during the Nightmares episode? Nazis were his nightmare until he saw a candy bar on the ground. He changed course, picked up the candy bar, and boom got the clown nightmare instead. 2) In my mind, Marcie, the girl who turned invisible, and her invisible classmates, are relied on to do things like sneak chemicals into bottles of hair dye. Their classroom was definitely in down there in The Initiative.

Kim

NOW YOU KNOW WHERE THE INVISIBLE PEOPLE FROM BUFFY WENT. They work here, at the facility. Which is another branch of The Initiative.

Kim

This film makes more sense if you are a real movie buff with a good amount of media literacy to pick up on all the Easter eggs, tropes and references. If you aren’t well versed in film history and knowledge this movie can really be jarring which is why you all are confused.

CWall

This is a bit random, but you should watch the Blu-ray version of the sukuna vs mahoraga fight in JJK if or when it comes. The animators got more time to fully complete the episode and it looks great!

Surya

Agreed, the Cornetto-trilogy would be perfect

Toby

The beginning title card jump scare is an ode to horror/thriller Funny Games. You should definitely put it on your list. There's an Austrian version, which is the original, and then a shot for shot American remake by the same director. I recommend the former.

Alexis Cardarella

I believe Joss was still showrunner of season 5 and Drew was executive story editor on Angel s5, as well as co writing a good deal of episodes. Still, a significant role in the final season of Angel.

Alexis Cardarella

For the horror genre, this is probably the perfect type for Pat and Rana. Balanced the jump scares with comedy and intrigue. They'd probably enjoy Shaun of the Dead and Tucker and Dale vs. Evil if they haven't watched them yet

howwlll

Dollhouse is definitely worth putting on the reaction list

Saber0

I just got back from a cabin trip thank goodness I didn’t watch this lol

Nickolas K Black

This is Drew Goddard's directorial debut. His first job was to write for Buffy season 7, then he went on to be the showrunner for Angel season 5 (the best Angel season imo). You should also check out his movie 'Bad times at the El Royale'. He was also a writer for 'Cloverfield' and 'The Martian'.

Jontor11

I love this movie so much. Such a great metaphor for the genre and the movie industry as a whole. Like we say how awful it is that these characters die even though that's what they came for and then you, not in a bad way, have people like Mickey who want a story with structure and conflict where somehow everyone always makes the exact right choice in every situation. Like of course they should turn back after the creepy gas station but then we'd just be watching a 2hr U-turn

Guys, Dollhouse is trash

Brakthir

Pat and Rana in horror reactions pure gold

Pervy Sage

Damn was hoping dawn of the apes was this week , but this is good too.

Rey

Love the reaction…. I don’t consider this movie a horror in my opinion more like thriller

Neji404

I know Whedon is a pos but he's damn good at his job.

M.

In typical Joss Whedon fashion, he and Drew Godard (who wrote for Buffy) they take a genre, in this case 80s slasher movies, and deconstruct it with a mixture of humor, sci-fi, and horror. 80s slashers were known for their formula of having a group teens all die one by one with the “virginal” girl being the “final girl” that usually ends up surviving. The cast of teens usually have those stereotypes of, the slutty dumb blond, the jock, the fool (or stoner), the smart one, and the virgin. And this movie is just incredibly clever in the way that it takes those stereotypes and gives them a reason for what’s happening. The tone of this movie is very much in the Buffy/Angel style. I would love to see you guys react to Dollhouse once Buffy and Angel are done. The twist in that show are almost designed to be reacted to. It feels very like “Lost” in that way.

Ray D

Mutant Enemy is the production company of Whedon. The animated logo appears at the end of each episode of Buffy, Angel and Firefly, after the credits. In Buffy there is some variants for some episodes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCLPHSVtvmU

Davide Figus

Could you react to The Dark Knight?

EdEinBebop

So the dude playing the stoner was actually super ripped and they had to cover him up in layers.

Alberto Fraga

You spotted most of the Buffy/Angel people but missed Andrew (one of the Buffy nerds) as the intern. Great movie and great reaction though.

LatePaul

I never hear anyone mention Dollhouse! I wish that show would have lasted longer. Yall should react to it sometime.

Jenny D

did they recognize tuckers brother? I must have missed it

Macs

The red title-card of the movie that suddenly appears on the screen is a reference from the movie Funny Games. https://i.insider.com/625729cb8b169c0018f34a0d?width=1000&format=jpeg&auto=webp

Davide Figus

One of the best horror movies of all time. Fun Fact, the thermos bong prop was a one of a kind piece built just for that bit, and it actually worked as well, and if I'm correct I think one of the actors stole the prop for themselves after the movie ended.

Gwyn

One of the main metaphors that the film contains is that in practice the ancient gods are practically the audience. https://thetruecolors.org/cabin-in-the-woods-monsters/

Davide Figus

correct its a fake out everyone's role is the opposite of what the techs think,I was really hoping spidey was going to be on this one, he would've gotten it

Macs

This movie is a great take on horror tropes I wish we could get a little more like it

Sage

Idk if they missed it or I’m remembering wrong but I thought it was revealed that Dana wasn’t a virgin she slept with her professor. Pretty sure Marty was the actual virgin. Edit: I looked it up the techs had all their roles wrong so the world was gonna end anyway. Marty the virgin, Dana the whore, Jules the scholar, Curt the fool, and Holden the athlete.

Chris D. Jones

Oh dear God they got Rana sitting next to Pat on this thumbnail. That alone makes me wanna watch lol

Gambit3838

Yes, more horror movies pls!!

Branden Jenkins

Omg! I totally forgot this was coming from that poll lol
