FUN FACT: Blind Wave totally missed G. Gordon Godfrey showing up on Apokalips in their reactions to this finale, and so did not catch on that Godfrey was a god or even related to Apokalips.

#SundayRundown Alright, this is never explained in the show, but now that you've seen it, I can explain it to you without spoilers: G. Gordon Godfrey... is a god. Literally.
The planet Apokalips is populated mainly by a race of super-powerful beings called New Gods, and G. Gordon Godfrey's real name is "Glorious Godfrey", a New God with incredible speaking skills and the power of Persuasive Mind Control. He is a member of Darkseid's Elite (his Inner Circle of evil New Gods), and Godfrey's mission is to go to planets under a disguise and convince the populace to rebel against their leaders/protectors and to welcome Darkseid's rule. Godfrey - this super-being posing as a controversial news presenter - works closely with Vandal Savage and the Light to further their mutual goals by manipulating the people through the media.
The New Gods of Apokalips are the Light's true partners, with Vandal Savage having made a deal with Darkseid himself centuries ago. Neither villain is in charge of the other, the immortal human mastermind is on the same level as the tyrant evil god; this is a temporary partnership, not a pledge of allegiance. This is a bargain they both knowingly made for mutual benefits until the time comes to betray each other. The exact details of the deal will be explained later on in the show, but right now this whole show is essentially building to which arch-villain will outsmart the other in the end and become the final antagonist: either Darkseid... or Vandal Savage.
Which villain will have the best-laid plans in the end: the evil conqueror god, or the immortal human mastermind? We can only wait and see.
