Joss is still the showrunner. He came up with the storylines and reviewed (sometimes edited) all the scripts. And since a lot of the problematic events are big plot points, it's safe to blame Joss. But you're right, women can be and often are guilty of misogyny.

BetheSOUL

Intervention was written by a woman btw. Not a man.

JudgeMazza .

tender moment with a serial killer rapist whose already got the blood of 2 slayers on him. soo sweet.

Tony O

the whole problem is, if i didn't make it clear, he gets rewarded with a kiss as if buffy owes him something. She doesn't he's a predator and sexually dangerous despite his acts of supposed goodwill, and its addressed with a throw away comment.

Tony O

#Sundayrundown Part of why I love this show is because the characters aren't perfect. Buffy can recognize the mistakes she made with Riley and dawn. It helps her grow.

Christopher simeon

That's not the whole PROBLEM with the Spike arc, it's the whole POINT of the Spike arc. He's going between gross and weird and then also actual romance and feelings. Because he doesn't yet understand or know what the fuck is going on with him, or how to express/deal with what is going on with him. His actions are supposed to be contradictory.

Shockzz1234

The VA for older Beast Boy is the same person who voices him in Teen Titans. Also it’s dope that he’s followed in his mother’s footsteps into acting (“Hello Meghan!”).

Zee

So, that Buffy post episode discussion went to some interesting places 🤣

#SundayRundown Season 1: no deaths besides Red Tornado’s evil robot brothers and sisters. Season 2: half an alien race gets bombed and Wally goes poof. Season 3: moms, dads, kids, faces being burnt to the skull.. everybody getting killed 💀.

Kuro

Didnt say she NEEDED to but yes you are correct. Like ketty said, it could have been a hug or kiss on the cheek. But my perspective is this: in that moment she was going by pure emotion and just reacted. She was only focused on this selfless deed he did not their past history. I personally dont have a problem with it cause like buffy i waa caught up in the tender moment. It was so sweet to me. And as an emotional person, ive been in situations where i acted purely on emotion and in hindsight thought of all the other ways i could have handled the situation differently.

rickie woodson

She could have shown gratitude with a bag of blood she didn't need to kiss the vampire whose been sexually harassing her for months.

Tony O

And this is the whole problem with the Spike arc, he did something good for Buffy, he knows she'd be hurt if glory found out about the key, yet he spent a whole episode abusing a life like buffy bot without buffys consent or thought about her feelings. Yet no consequence. its contradictory and gross, and somehow the writers reward him with a kiss on the lips. what kind of message is that to give someone whose been sexually harassing her for months.

Tony O

But In certain aspects, it does tho. It gets the viewer more involved due to inflicting the shock factor.

Jakari24

being darker does not equate to better tho

Trey Milliner-Williams

the kiss: the whole episode was about buffy learning to no longer suppress her softer side. to express her feelings of love, including gratitude. dont look at as sexual or romantic but like a mother kissing a child. it was a kiss of thanks, full of love cause that is what she is made of. yall gotta go back watch all those spirit guide scenes. very informative of buffy's persona going forward

rickie woodson

Yeah DC definitely goes darker in their animated/comics counter part, lots of heroes get crippled/maimed and they go to dark sci-fi stuff with their villain's instead of just overpowered big bads like Marvel. The biggest miss with the DC live action is they got their tones all over the pace in the movies.

J. J.

love melodrama so i dont see any "cringe" with spike and buffy bot. its all fun and games. so hilarious! their dialogue is straight out of a soap opera. LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

rickie woodson

Buffy's kiss reminds me of Phoebe kissing Joey when she was posing as Ursula. It wasn't romantic as much as, she knew he needed it.

Bisibia

If you think ANY of that at ALL compares to a little teenage girl getting her face melted off while she struggles to get the murderer off as her body goes limp and showing her burnt corpse right after, then we have nothing further to discuss my guy lol. You got it 😭

Jakari24

Said it before and will say it again, get *everyone* on the couch for Angel! They'll regret not watching these as the series progresses

Scott

Most slayers don't live long, but it has definitely not been confirmed that no slayer has lived past 20 (Buffy's current age). The gang did know something was up. They didn't know she was a robot because they assumed she was in a trance from when she went to desert and no one could clear it up for them. It must sting though that Buffy is worried about losing the ability to love this episode and her friends can't even distinguish her from a robot.

Lime Pie

Marvel goes dark are you crazy? Gwen sleeping with green goblin, cyclops son raised in apocalyptic future, caps death getting shot on courthouse steps while in handcuffs .

Elijah

I think the kiss buffy gave spike makes a lot of sense. Whether it was on the lips or on the cheek is semantics, because I don't think there was anything romantic about it on her end. It wasn't love, it wasn't pity, it was simple gratitude. It's one of the reasons I love buffy as a hero. She can see through to what matters. Spike having a sexbot is CREEPY, but an evil soulless vampire willing to sacrifice his life to protect her & her sister...THAT matters to her. That means something. I love that buffy not only sees but wants to recognize the good in people... even if they can't see it in themselves OR its not there yet. To her fault, She's a hero.

mary smith

Sista lol

After Buffy kisses Spike "This is a very male-written episode" This episode was written by Jane Espenson (a woman) just FYI. And many of the Buffy/Spike shippers were/are in fact, women. I think a similar comment was made during the "Into The Woods" episode after the Buffy/Riley breakup and Xander's speech to Buffy. Also written and directed by a woman, Marti Noxon. I can understand why often the temptation is to blame what you might find problematic writing on male writers or Joss, but with all of the latter's faults, he's always found Spike to be a problematic character and he found romanticizing him to be icky. If you don't like those scenes/writing, it's the network/fans who pushed for it.

Chelsea

I never got the hate this season gets from some people either. Especially on rewatch - there are so many good little details in there.

cosmotron

Love the outsider comics. Thats why i qas so excited for this season to air and dont get the hate. They are all fascinating characters

rickie woodson

Double drop drops for the 4 part finale of buffy? Not requesting it, but a serious inquiry.

rickie woodson

See what I mean? Nothing but despair and too much violence so far in this 3rd season of YJ. Poor Brion having to leave home despite his uncle's crimes and after being turned into a meta-human against his will by that damn Dr. Jace. Also that other boy just got shot by that stupid bystander with a shotgun.

Brandon Gibbs

Well, mark this episode as Spike's true first act of selflessness. He was willing to give up his life to save Dawn for Buffy. What makes this important/selfless is that he did not expect anything in return. I think Buffy's small kiss of appreciation was appropriate for the moment. Spike has always been (still is) a soulless monster, and up until that moment very selfish. Buffy truly believed that all he wanted was just to sleep with her--I mean, yes, true, i.e. the Buffybot, but a soulless monster who just wanted to sleep with her wouldn't've jeopardised himself the way he had. I think this moment was Buffy acknowledging Spike's legitimate feelings for her. Maybe, just maybe he might *actually* feel love for her, but he struggles to show it--except in this moment, and that says a lot about Buffy for recognising that.

hannemanart

Referring to Young Justice: 😂😂 And now you all should see why (outside of movie financial success) DC is heavily debated to be better than Marvel. It has ALWAYS been dark, and never scared to go places Marvel wouldn’t dare lol. And it gets even darker as the show progresses. Great reaction, guys!

Jakari24

maybe thats something to look into

Macs

As someone who read the original Batman & The Outsiders comics, have to say that I appreciate the self-resurrecting character so much more than her original comic incarnation. There's some threads to unravel with her origin before becoming a fatality of Bedlam's tarring/meta-genesis process. When the young woman says "Kill" initially, it was just a response to her fate - and she's still learning how to communicate as the season progresses. While it's not uncommon in comics for siblings to have the same power set, we do see variations between the geo abilities that Brion and his uncle Bedlam have. Strange that the other paternal twin doesn't possess a meta-gene. Win-some-lose-some I guess.

Chris

Back to a more lighthearted Buffy after a couple weeks of depressing episodes(looking forward to eventually watching your reaction to “The Body”. After recent events a few months ago, it’s a bit too familiar. Grief I’m fine with, but the first ten minutes feels way too relatable/real still. So I’ll save it for when I don’t feel a surge of adrenaline after just thinking about it). It’s nice to experience some lightheartedness that isn’t there just to lower our guard so the coming emotional punch hits harder(they really like doing that). As for the cougar chasing a blond…this episode aired just before 24 premiered on tv. While I didn’t originally remember the exact dates. But I remember season 6 of Buffy premiered mere weeks after 9/11, as well as the fact 24 premiered a couple months after. I remember that because they delayed it a couple months BECAUSE of 9/11. The cougar episode of 24 was Feb. 4th of 2003 if you’re oddly curious(I had to check since I thought it’d be funny if it was “24” months after this episode…but it was only 22. Incidentally, searching google for “blondes and cougars on tv episodes” mainly brings up episodes of Cougartown and stories about older women hooking up with younger men rather then anything about the actual cat. 🤷‍♂️).

#sundayrundown #yj Something to keep an eye out for, the first letter of every episode of season 3 and season 4 will spell out a phrase 🙂

VeryNeru

Sunday Rundown YJ: So fun fact about season 3! The first section of the season was released in 'batches'. Episodes 1-3 came out together, Episodes 4-6 came out together, and 7-9, before 10-13 rounded out the first half of the season before they went on break (the second half of the season was mostly weekly with a couple batch releases at the beginning and end). So this episode you watched here was essentially the ending of "Arc 1" of YJ season 3. Also, the name "Outsiders" is a reference to a more obscure DC superhero team. In the 80s, Batman quit the JL and took Black Lightning and some other more obscure characters (like Katana) and formed the Outsiders, and their first mission, was to sneak into Markovia to deal with metahuman trafficking, which ultimately brought Prince Brion Markov into the mix as well as our self-resurrecting friend whose name I won't drop yet. This first arc was a pretty faithful adaption of the first arc of "Batman and the Outsiders" with Nightwing in the Batman role (Nightwing has led the Outsiders multiple times as well in the comics). Lastly, given you all having now seen a face get melted it is a good time to bring up... season 3 and season 4 do not have the content restrictions of the first two seasons. They are on streaming now, and YJ was always more mature, when they came back six years later, they embraced that this show was for adults. No one is dropping F bombs every thirty seconds or anything, but this show is firmly adult animation now. It will be tackling incredibly mature themes, people will die, there will be essentially gore as you seen, as this season has horror inspirations and yeah, expect the PG-13 to get closer to R.

Riley Wigmore

The "slayer line" lies with Faith now. Only Faith dying will bring the next slayer. Buffy passed that along when she died Season 1.

DeAnne

Yeah someone really should take care of Warren before he becomes a problem...

Emptysea93

YJ Season 3 and 4 are streamed. With a TV 14 rating if I remember correctly. So it comes with adult situations, language and violence. Really the essence of modern comic books.

Cliff Douglas

And now you really start to see the effects of Young Justice not being bound to broadcast standards for Cartoon Network; this ain't the last gruesome death we're going to see. Also, how awesome was Superboy schooling Bedlam? "OH you must have been practicing with your meta powers for, like, months... that's cute."

Cory Stanish

#sundayrundown The Normies and Blindwave should get together and do the peace maker intro dance
