#SundayRundown - every vampire's nature is defined in large part by how they were feeling when they got turned. Darla was feeling like a sinner, an antagonist of God, for instance, which is why she always enjoyed doing the most despicable acts. Angel was drunk, dreaming big, and consumed by the thought of getting the approval of a parental figure (who then became Darla). Drusilla was insane, no need to explain there. And here we see Spike was heartbroken, horny, and in pain, and thus he now lusts after the woman who can cause him the most pain and the most heartbreak.

BetheSOUL

Since most slayers die before the age of 18, and there have been slayers since prehistoric times, it would be insane to assume that Spike and Drusilla are the ONLY vampires to have killed a slayer 😆

BetheSOUL

"It's crazy how whenever it's a Spike centered episode it's genuinely the best episodes." Because he's the best character, duh!

Shockzz1234

All you need to know about Spike is that he was turned heartbroken, aroused, and in extreme violence

Liam Horton

@Macs hard agree, that how I saw it too Spike and Angelus were never compatible, Spike is more chaotic neutral while Angelus is like Neutral Evil on the border of chaotic (or Vice versa) I think this plays into Angel’s personality now, like he still has those thoughts and urges

space colon

I think Angel knew Dru could smell the fear of the family he was protecting, that’s why he wanted them all to leave

space colon

Buffy: 💵💵 You’re Beneath Me! Buffy can be a stuck up savage at times. 😂

Alison

Fool for love is my favorite episode not written by Joss Whedon. Everything is perfect. The script, the direction and most of all the acting. A tour the force by James Marsters who manages to portray every incarnation of his character with equal conviction and charisma. What we find out about his past is surprising but it also makes perfect sense. The last scene between Buffy and Spike is just beautiful. Their chemistry is to the roof. Purposely dressed similarly and breathing in sinc.

Vicky N

no not really all this was in s2, we knew angel was their sire, not quite sure if dru sired spike or angelus sired both of them "you were my sire man you were my yoda" etc, s2 spike, but for me at least it was clear dru sired spike, angelus sired dru, by the end of s2 at least

Macs

Nobody was surprised that it was Drusilla that sired Spike? At the time it was a huge reveal.

Vicky N

Once they are all done, a long time from now their is full compilations, all the flashbacks, buffy and angel in order, but they can't watch that until all of it buffy and angel is done, still its cool that in bits and pieces the entire story is shown

Macs

sorry no, that scene was angelus pissed because spike had caused such havoc and they all talk about how he keeps doing it over and over, giles talks about how he would use railroad spikes on his victims, just no thats the whole thing with the gang spike was the one that just caused chaos, he was like all of them a repressed bullied kid let loose on the world, as a demon, he was the brat kid of the 4

Macs

@space1999 Angelus has always seemed to me more the serial killer type, he even talks about in this 2 parter being quiet and careful etc, spike likes chaos mass destruction murder etc angelus never got into a fight he couldn't win or bullshit his way out of, thats how i always saw it anyway, until buffy he would never have sought out a fight with a slayer imo

Macs

#Sunday Rundown: Black Manta being a genuinely proud & concerned dad makes me lowkey like him as a character lol. The show has implied that that were separated due to his issues with Aquaman so despite being a villian, I’m sure he’s truly happy tand have Kaldur around. Speaking of villains, Slade/Deathstroke is so badass. One of my favorite DC villains

Kuro

With Darla its kinda more messed up then angel and..., Darla can only remember being a vampire she doesn't remember anything about her human life except maybe the death bed scene, unlike angel she has no memories of being anything but a monster

Macs

With Spike being able to kill the chinese slayer their is a theory just fan theory but it kinda holds up, the line from Master > Darla > Angelus > Drusilla > Spike, basically older stronger blood then the average vampire, they all were legends in their own way not just as a group

Macs

I can't get use to beardless mickey

Macs

I feel like these episode really solidified what buffyverse vampires are. When a vampire turns you and you die your soul leaves your body and a demon is basically born inside you BUT it only has your memories. Kind of like the clones in invincible you close your eyes and the vampires open theirs. So in a way you are the demon but the demon is you. That's why vampires go after people closest to them when they were alive because they have all data in their heads saying this person is important but also this endless thirst for blood. Angel is the exception though because his human soul and the demon both inhabit his body. He's cursed to be a vampire who has to suffer being a good man and man who has to suffer being a monster either way he loses

Kendall DeSouza

You can appreciate a well made episode of TV no matter what the content is. No one is celebrating SA. Grow up

x_Rhi_x

If Suraj met Drucilla and she wanted to turn him, Suraj would respond with "yes mommy".

Chaos T

one of my favorite parts of these parallel buffy and angel episodes is for sure that slow motion walk. in fool for love, because the focus is on dru and spike, angelus and darla are more set dressing, there for continuity purposes. however, if you're doing the math right, the scenes during the boxer rebellion are two years after angelus would have gotten his soul. but at this point, those flashbacks happened 3 seasons ago so it's possible to miss that detail. still, even if you aren't paying attention to the timeline, there's obviously something a little off with angelus and darla. so i just love the recontexualization of the scenes in Darla. very subtle but a huge pay off. i often wonder what non watchers of angel thought of fool for love and if they picked up on the weird tension between angelus and darla back in the day when these shows were airing. huge pay off for people keeping up with both shows at the time.

Katey

#SundayRundown.. when Spike says to Buffy "you know you wanna dance" after leaning in to kiss her, he's actually continuing on with the subject of her being killed. Of course there's some double meaning involved, with Spikes recently revealed attraction towards Buffy. But she answers the question with "it'll never be you Spike. You're beneath me". This was meant as Spike isn't good enough to be the one to kill her, but with the subtext it obviously means so much more than that.

Carson Cardarella

James Marsters seems like an awesome person and a kind soul. Great intro for the Buffy reaction this week. Also, does he have one of the best British accents from an actor born in the United States?

Chaos T

Great insight. I enjoyed your perspective.

Esther Boogie

Buffy S3E8 relevant moments: Spike [to Willow]: So, we got to Brazil, and she... she was just different. [...] And she would flirt! I caught on a park bench making out with a Chaos demon! Have you ever seen a Chaos demon? They're all slime and antlers. They're disgusting. Spike [later, to Joyce]: So I'm strolling through the park looking for a meal, and I happen to walk by and she's making out with a Chaos demon!. And so I said, "You know, I don't have to put up with this!" And she said, "Fine!" So I said, "Fine, do whatever you like!" I thought we were gonna make up, you know? Joyce: Well, she sounds very unreasonable. Spike: She is, she's out of her mind. That's what I miss most about her.

K Murray

The Normies asked in the discussion if Angelus and Darla had killed Slayers previously, I don't think anyone's answered yet, but they hadn't. Spike was the only one of them to kill a slayer until Drusilla killed Kendra.

Steve Hayes

Rana is me at 15 watching that porch scene.

Alicia

If you love celebrating a dirty rapist then yes.

Tony O

Watch Buffy 5x7 and then Angel 5x7 and continue watching the entire run for each series in order that they aired. I hope the couch sticks to that because it is definitely important.

Scott

Wooo! for Buffy Thursday a buffyday i really needed, as the buffy season gears up its villain for arc and the spike of it all lol.... and and very fun Artemis episode for young justice. and oooohye are getting darker in the angel season... so much fun and also intesne in the next few weeks

Ricardo Obregon

Buffy: oh the Spuffy train has left the station and Rana is on. BUSINESS CLASS.

Chris K.

Angel/Darla is my 3rd favorite Angel relationship, it’s just so complex and layered. This episode of Angel showcase their relationship in such an interesting way. I love how we got to see that from Darlas perspective she “saved” Angel and she expected him to do the same but to Angel she “damned” him. I love d also seeing that Angel didn’t just immediately turn good after getting his soul, he did try to go back to Darla and still be the way he was. It more realistic to me that that’s what happened. The bond between a vampire and their maker is my favorite piece of Vampire lore in all Vampire mediums, so I always love when we get to go back in time and see Angel, Darla, Dru, and Spike and see their dynamic. It’s my personal favorite part of the Buffyverse.

Nyeisha Melvina Clark

That’s right I forgot about Dru killing Kendra.

Nyeisha Melvina Clark

Do you know when thier reacting to mission impossible dead reckoning

Kage Uzumaki

Drusilla managed to kill Kendra! Think it fitting that Spike and Dru (both passionate people corrupted and turned evil but still full of humanity) each kill a slayer but Angelus (the one who obsesses the most about passion and is the most evil) never killed one

space colon

It's crazy how whenever it's a Spike centered episode it's genuinely the best episodes. All of them are top tier, with writing, acting, directing the whole nine, and James just elevates this show to a whole other level. Some of my all time favorite lines are in this episode. "You think we're dancing? That's all we've ever done!" "You're beneath me". "All it takes is one good day". "A Slayer secretly craves death". All top tier lines with such layered meaning to them. I love how they show that in his fights with the slayers he didn't do anything fancy to beat them or anything like that, he just beat them in that specific fight which cost them their lives unfortunately, that doesn't mean he was better, sometimes a stronger opponent can still lose a fight so what he ended up taking away from the fights is that they must have secretly wanted to die. He doesn't see himself as special just that he had a good day which I love about his character. Also correct me if I'm wrong but Spike is the only vampire to have ever killed a Slayer, no one else, not even Angel. Say what you want about Spike (and you would most likely be right) but he always understood the Slayer part of Buffy better than anyone else, even better than Giles in my opinion.

Nyeisha Melvina Clark

Season 3, Lover's Walk, "...and I find her making out with a Chaos demon, have you ever seen a Chaos demon, they're all slime and antlers!"

NJM

*perfect*

Zee

#SundayRundown - I’ve said this before but it’s still dope that Young Justice is you guys first DC journey as a group (START THE SHOW ALREADY RANA!!.. ❤️❤️). I know some of you have seen certain animated shows like Batman The Animated Series, Justice League, Static Shock, Teen Titans, etc.; maybe this is something that could be asked for the crew as well but since you guys have a more casual to first-time view of DC.. is it weird, interesting or cool that yall are seeing some noteworthy characters are interacting with eachother for the first time especially since this show has some meetups/teamups that only occur here. Also, The VA for Impluse is the one singing the Reach’s commercial song & SuperBoy stumped Nightwing amazingly in this episode. He did it logically and straight forward without getting as overly angry as he used to. Dick Grayson seeing the shit Bruce/Batman has go through 😂

Zee

Fool for Love is perfection, easily one of the peak storytelling episodes of the Buffyverse. Beyond the action and plot, told via incredible performances and editing, it is the call backs and foreshadowing that makes the show so re-watchable.

Kirsten Stewart

that is super cute but nah bruh. if we make a bet, be a woman of your word: show me the money! the real kind!

rickie woodson

i took a different perspective: there has been this huge legend around how dangerous and infamous spike was pre season 2 and the origin here tells the truth: he was called william the bloody cause of his bloody bad poetry not his murders and he took the name spike from the insult thrown at him. not saying he didnt kill ANYONE but the victors write the history books and spike out lived them all. "when the legend supercedes the truth, print the legend"

rickie woodson

Spike was a lot like Wesley Lack of validation informing an early life of insecurities (especially around relationships). These insecurities inform their desire to fight to prove themselves They establish in the first season that vampires are kids who don’t grow up, the opposite of Buffy who’s journey is ALL ABOUT growing and taking responsibility for her actions Unlike other vampires though at the end of the episode we see Spike GROW

space colon

joker: all it takes is one bad day. spike: all it takes is one good day.

rickie woodson

I just watched the reaction to Buffy 5x7 'Fool For Love' and I cannot contain myself. It was so fun to re-live one of my top favorite Buffy episodes with you watching it for the first time. It always gets me right in the gut, the feels, the eek. It is one of the best pieces of television art ever. The group seemed to forget the line from Season 3's episode, Lover's Walk, when Spike is upset that Dru broke up with him for a chaos demon, which he describes as "all antlers and slime." And that's the guy we saw in the flashback. So fucking hilarious. Even worse that Dru would prefer a guy covered in slime to Spike, who's "all covered with her" (Buffy). The show is known for its seasons-deep foreshadowing, and all I'll say is there may be another not-so-throw-away line in that flashback. ;)

Esther Boogie

2 top tier Buffy and angel episodes. The way they go together and mirror each other in themes is creatively clever. We see Angels past, fighting his darkness and spikes past, of reveling in it but also angel and Darla's relationship coming full circle and spike finding he's still a fool for love even after all the time that's past (especially with the scene with Buffy at the end). Great reactions 👍

ray s

Well seems Artemis (or should I say Tigress) has managed to maintain her cover while disabling Psimon and convincing Black Manta that they need Miss Martian to fix Kaldur. Furthermore you're right to still be suspicious about Green Beetle and what he's doing with Jaime and your also right about how Superboy really let Nightwing have it when he told him what his damn secrets have done to all of them, if he had just told them all everything from the start they wouldn't be in this mess right now. See Batman can be a bad influence on his underlings sometimes.

Brandon Gibbs

I just open a Hulu tab, mute it, and put it over their blurred video. No blur!

Bisibia

Usually I watch the edited Buffy reactions. But for this episode I need all 45 mins of uncut glory. One of the top 5 best eps of the whole series for sure.

Kwigz-kun

well if you live with people and only one of you are going to the grocery store: go over everything you need. thats how my family rolled and roommates i've seen online

rickie woodson

These shows know how you do a flashback! Each flashback informs us of the world, of the characters motivations and relationships, gives us entertaining scenes that don’t detract from the episode AND all of the flashbacks tie into the season story arc

space colon

Yesss thank you for saying it, even in his introductory episode he was quoting Shakespeare! Equating sex and violence It’s so interesting how he seems to NEED control to be vulnerable with someone, he needs Dru to want him (willing to torture and beat her) so that he can feel safe showing her his romantic side Even his lessons for Buffy this episode are played up in a dramatic way

space colon

It’s like some Walter White stuff Every time each character has a brush with death when confronting another person they carry that person with them Death isn’t just an aspect of their life, it’s something that they LIVE IN AND WITH, it’s why he likes Buffy so much

space colon

Hard agree, like in early seasons of Buffy we got to see Angel grappling with his feelings With Spike tho we get a much wider emotional range, we see him at his most vulnerable like we did Buffy in the early seasons with Angel

space colon

Spike acquires something in each flashback. First his vampirism, then his accent, then his eyebrow scar, and finally his leather duster. "The King of Cups expects a picnic, but it is not his birthday!" is probably my favourite Dru line, at least in Buffy.

Cory Garron

this episode of young justice should have been called "perfect" lol

rickie woodson

I think he takes rejection poorly but specifically being told he’s BENEATH a women he desires kills him (probably ties into his relationship with his mother) I’m glad the writers felt comfortable enough letting a character like him have a sympathetic backstory!

space colon

It’s so tough There are so many good one offs that really dive into the meat of the characters and tie those struggles into the season arc 😖

space colon

They werent able to watch them together sadly 😩

space colon

On the short list of absolute best Buffy episodes! James Marsters (Spike) does such a good job portraying vulnerability! Vampires take on the “worst” traits of the person, Spike captures all of William’s insecurities and need for approval. Feel like Angelus and Darla and Dru did the same, these humans who were miserable get a “second chance at life” with all the worst aspects of their personalities/urges on display The parallels between episodes are too perfect, Angel and Buffy confront Darla and Spike. BOTH of them want to sleep with the protagonist to escape from their own pain Just rewatched EEAAO and it’s really fun to see back to back depictions of deconstructed masculinity

space colon

my second favourite episode of buffy, everything about it really is just fantastic. such a good look at Spike's life, he really is and always has been a romantic, you do actually see this a lot in season 2 with him and Drusilla too but i think it gets overlooked a lot due to them being the bad guys and all. also goes to show just how much Spike associates love with violence since he doesn't have the moral compass of his soul to help him differentiate, but the end of the episode shows he clearly still has some empathy despite it all, he really is one of the best characters in the show.

Callie

with episodes like this, truly wish y'all edited Angel like buffy. Understand you got limitations, just wishing is all. Love the backstory in both episodes

Ori Lotus

Whedon does flashback’s better than anybody imo.

Blake

Rana repping u spuffy shippers ♡ top 3 episode for me.

x_Rhi_x

Theyve literally posted reactions to buffy 5x7 and angel 2x7 in this upload lol

x_Rhi_x

One of the best buffy eps!

Mo

I need to see the video for Angel. Like edited like Buffy. Season too and beyond is way to good for the blur. 😩

Jaren

This one is probably in top 10 Buffy episodes. I remember watching it at the time and thinking that until then, "Buffy" lacked a bit the more epic scope and flashbacks to past eras and events ( "Angel" on the other hand, was really good at that because of the main character and the story opportunities his background provided ) But with this episode, "Buffy " knocked it out of the park.

Petar Zvezdanov

There was one Buffy episode in between but they kept them close.

Courtney Scott

So excited for this! I watched the live stream for Angel but someone called (had to take it) right before the scenes crossover scenes started. I was so upset.

Courtney Scott

I think the reason for why Spuffy has so many fans is simply because of the incredible chemistry between Spike and Buffy and their skewed dynamic. Sure, they're not a healthy combination. But people are not watching to see a normal, healthy relationship. They're both people with violence in their history and their blood. Something that's a bit more effed up is more interesting and compelling to watch (that's also why it's exciting to watch Buffy interact with Angelus in season 2), and SMG and James Marsters do blow it out of the water with their acting.

Poison Ivy

It's so hard to beat. I go back and forth between this and 6x7, but there are so many good ones. This though, ugh. It's a complete journey in itself.

Esther Boogie

Definitely not a Spike fan but seeing his backstory explains a lot of why he is the way he is. The guy doesn’t handle rejection from women well. He’s emotional and reckless but taught Buffy a good lesson in not letting her guard down.

Alison

Hopefully they watched Buffy 5X7 and Angel 2X7 back to back as they were designed to be in order to get the full effect.

John Moreland

Fool For Love is such a fantastic episode of Buffy. And paired with the Angel episode that comes after, it made television history.

Jontor11

One of my top 5 favorite Buffy Episodes!

WarRaven

Perhaps the best episode in all of Buffy

A V

You don't have to but the Buffy and Angel episodes go great together.
