this is a great analysis

I was looking through some old posts and came across this post. Was not expecting to see someone get ethered. lol Anyway, this post reminded me of this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoM0h-Gg0kY

Ginzo

What a totally asinine example. Imagine comparing the actions of a fictional character who's backstory and motivations you're already well aware of. Versus a rando protester committing an act of violence and not knowing what they're true intentions are whether they be good or malicious. Bro thought he was really cooking with this one

Captain K'nuckles

LMAO you are joke. You "don't want to lower yourself" because you know you will get disproven at every argument like I did in my original post. I countered every single one of your arguments and you are too weak willed or, even worse, don't believe in your stated position to actually defend it. Which is actually worse since you are clearly only saying these things to get internet karma points. Just cause you got blown out on every argument you made doesn't mean you need to slink away at the first sign of pushback. As the other person said you are just a coward who doesn't want to have to defend their positions from any pushback you just want to get up on your soap box and spout your incoherent argument without any criticism. People like you are the WORST advocates for your positions because you are too cowardly to actually defend them or debate them. Have fun staying in your echo chamber. This is exactly why people like you will never get mass support for your dumbass "rioting is ok" sentiment because your types run away at the first sign of pushback. Have fun continuing to be a pushover and never getting your political goals achieved. Meanwhile I will continue to inform and convince people over to my side that rioting against local and private businesses is NEVER ok when trying to fight back against "so-called" government tyranny.

AnEnthusiasticKoala

People who say they wont "lower themselves" by replying to legitimate counter-arguments are cowards. You are a coward. You typed that whole essay giving your detailed opinion on one of the most divisive and complicated issues plaguing the world today, and then folded after the first person stepped up to debate you. Regardless of which of you has the more sound argument, you've shown yourself to be spineless. And don't spout that nonsense about it being to embarrassing, because anyone who really cared about a topic this serious would strip naked and do a handstand if it got their damn point across. You aren't embarrassed, you're afraid that you'll lose the debate and so you slither out of it with a half-assed excuse. Again, you are a coward.

Silver Raven

Now see, I was almost tempted to respond to you cause there are so many terrible counter-arguments in your answer, but the line ''You sound just as racist as the old KKK dude'' is just too embarrassing for me to lower myself and reply to. Trop marrant

BlackHeart279

Well that was certainly something to read. To start you need to show some sources to even back up your first claim. "The riots didn't start until the Police began them," that is wholly based on your subjective feelings on the matter and not on any kind of data. Second, all riots are NOT "the language of the unheard," even in your own post you talk about how sports fans rioting after games not getting the national scrutiny you think it deserves. Would you consider those riots "the language of the unheard?" I'm not going to argue against your stats about police killings since they are accurate. However, I will note that the source you claim to get these numbers from specifically says on their definition for their police killing numbers they includes BOTH "justified" and "unjustified" shootings. Which doesn't really make much sense since the goal of police reform is to stamp down on the unjustified uses of force, whether deadly or not. Now we really start to get into your main arguments that basically boil down to you being overly emotional. Your whole next paragraph basically can be summed up by saying that white progressive leftists, like Marketa, believe in the idea and think it is ok to subject people to the "soft bigotry of low expectations," because people can't control their emotions. You basically just go on excuse after excuse for why it is ok for certain groups of people to riot and destroy property because "they can't keep their emotions in check." You sound just as racist as the old KKK dude who thinks black people are mentally inferior and therefore you can't hold them to the same standards as other people. Sorry if you think this is "privilege," I call it taking accountability and agency for your own actions and accepting responsibility for the consequences of your actions. And not letting your emotions dictate your life choices. Also this notion that national media doesn't scrutinize riots after sports teams win or lose is just false. Please show me where news outlets are out there covering for those riots and making excuses for them, like you are. Your point about "riots" having some sort of racialized implication is wholly your American exceptionalism showing through. I can assure you that only in backwards America will you unironically hear someone claim that the term "riot" is racialized. Oh man the bubble you live in 🤣 And no I just flat out disagree that it is impractical to try and urge protestors to keep the protests peaceful and non-violent. Once again this is just you doing the soft bigotry of low expectations. I personally think higher of people and the choices they make. The only real point you make, that isn't just a fact, that I agree on is that I do think riots can be ethical if they are done against the right targets. If you are protesting, in your own words, against the system of "oppressed, disfranchised, over-policed, and constantly subjected to varying degrees of violence by the state" then you should direct those riots at THOSE institutions. Riot against a state capitol building, a police station, or whatever government building you have grievance with. But where you and people who hold your position can't seem to distinguish is that rioting against government buildings or institutions is TOTALLY DIFFERENT from rioting and destroying a local Target store or Auto dealer. Target and the local businesses have nothing to do with the problems that you are stating are the reasons for why these riots are happening. So how on Earth can people like you honestly make the argument that rioting against Local businesses and chain stores is helpful or useful to the cause you are trying to promote? Your quoting of Kimberly Jones also further just goes to my point that it is totally ridiculous to "break the social contract with Target" cause of US government's wrong doings. Again I will ask how do you justify burning down a Target and why that will move the government to change its laws? How does burning down a Target fix the situations you are describing? You, and Chris, again make this ridiculous claim that you provide ZERO sources for why you are assuming a total nonsensical position. Please show me one example of a business owner that AFTER THEIR STORE was destroyed was out there giving interviews that "yeah this sucks, but I can understand their pain and anger, we can rebuild, but you can’t bring people back to life." I just flat out don't believe you. This is a ridiculous thing to claim with zero evidence for it. And even if you can find 1 example of this, are you seriously trying to argue with a straight face that MOST business owners are totally cool with their business and property being destroyed due to a riot because they just so happen to agree with the messaging. That extraordinary claim requires some extraordinary proof to back it up. Your so called sobering fact is also misleading and takes the stats out of the context they are in. According to the website source you provided, in 2019 BEFORE THE PANDEMIC, police killed 288 Black people. 2020, once the Pandemic/lockdowns began, the number went down obviously to 257. Then in 2021 and beyond when lockdowns and restrictions lifted the number went back up to 281, actually less that pre-pandemic levels. Then in 2022 it went up slightly to 286, still below pre-pandemic levels but basically within the same range. So you saying that police killings of Black people has increased over the past 3 years while true on numbers alone; voids all meaning and context for why those numbers even changed in the first place because they are going back to the levels they were at before the pandemic and lockdowns all hit. Your next point is also easily disproven with a simple google search: Philippines, Brazil, Venezuela, India, and El Salvador are ALL "developed countries" that rank higher in police killings over the US. So while it would be good to lower the number of police killings in America you claiming we are the worst is just a lie. This isn't even mentioning the fact that authoritarian States like China, North Korea, Russia, etc. all have been shown to inaccurately report violence and killings done by their police and state powers. The final point you leave on just shows how historically ignorant you are to end your whole post on the claim that "very rare instances in history" have there been nonviolent resistance that has led to change. Literally a quick google search proves you wrong (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nonviolent_resistance). But I know research and analytical thinking is harder than just going off emotions.

AnEnthusiasticKoala

It's entertainment.... not real life. Lighten up. If you get frustrated by people having differing opinions about similar issues because those issues were brought up in a different context, you should probably stay off the internet and stay sheltered from reality. The human condition isn't robotic. Most of life is one giant grey area and context matters.

Now about the argument at the end, I wholeheartedly side with Chris and Marketa on this one. Here are my reasons: Firstly, if we take the protests of 2020 as an exemple, and compare the entire number of protests and protesters overall versus the number of violent incidents, most protests were unarguably peaceful. I’d even go further to say that in numerous instances the protests didn’t turn violent until Police incited and escalated things by being needlessly violent toward protesters, who ironically were protesting police violence. Secondly, the great Martin Luther King Jr called riots “The language of the unheard”. Remember in season 4 of “The Wire” when Police were taking bodies out of the vacants and Little Kevin body was found, and Bodie threw a fit and fucked up a police car ? It wasn’t a logical or smart thing to do, Bodie knew better, but in that moment he was emotional and he had a violent outburst because of the pain and anger he was feeling. Violent uprisings are, for the most part, a response to the violence first visited by the state (or agents of the state aka Police) upon communities that have suffered through decades of neglect, poverty, drugs. They are the reaction, the inciting action is almost always because of an egregious violent act inflicted upon the community. Amongst the people killed by police, Black people, who account for 13 percent of the U.S. population, accounted for 27 percent of those fatally shot and killed by police in 2021, (according to Mapping Police Violence, a nonprofit group that tracks police shootings). That means Black people are twice as likely as white people to be shot and killed by police officers. I’ll add to that, that there has been numerous studies that demonstrated that the routine and televised murder of Black people is damaging Black America’s mental health. Black people in the USA are oppressed, disfranchised, over-policed, and constantly subjected to varying degrees of violence by the state, I think it is unfair, and to some level like Marketa said, privileged, to pass judgment on the minority of people who can’t keep their emotions and actions in check and “civil” enough after seeing people who look like them getting murdered so often on live television. What’s infuriating is that when you have an emotional and violent reaction to the oppression you have been subjected to, the news makes it seem like there is something pathological about you, but when White people destroy property for the dumbest of reason like their city’s Football team losing, or even worse WINNING, nobody calls them thugs and ask where are their parents or implies they weren’t raised properly. That is why I don’t like the term “riots” because it has become somewhat of a racialized term used often specifically when Black people protest. I think we can all agree on the fact that it is unrealistic, if not impossible, for activists and organizers of peaceful protests to ask of the hundreds or thousands of people that are protesting with them to have the discipline and political awareness to make logical and stoic decisions at all times. With that in mind, and to tie it to Suraj’s parallel to “V for Vendetta” it’s also important to remark that there were some specific and targeted violence perpetrated against state institutions in the wake of George Floyd’s murder, for example the police precinct of Minneapolis was burned to the ground (with no casualties if I’m not mistaken). Lastly, during these same protests that arose following the cold blooded murder of George Floyd a woman went viral for her words, the woman Kimberly Jones, articulated my position regarding “riots” better than I could, you can find her whole speech online pretty easily but here’s the relevant quote “There is a social contract that we are all supposed to agree on that if you steal or I steal, the person that is the authority comes in and fixes the situation, but the person in authority is the one killing us. So the social contract is broken, and if the social contract is broken why the fuck should I give a shit about burning the fucking Target.” Following the destruction of their shops, a lot of local business owners had a similar philosophy as Chris did in the hypothetical Suraj brought up, they were like “yeah this sucks, but I can understand their pain and anger, we can rebuild, but you can’t bring people back to life.” A sobering fact to finish on, data shows that the number of Black people killed by police has actually increased over the last 3 years, American police kill people (All People) at a rate that is unheard of in pretty much any other ‘’developed country’’. With all that being said, there are very rare instances in history let alone American History where things changed for the better without the use of violence. PS: I wished Spidey and Mickey were here for this episode, it would have been interesting to have their opinions in the debate at the end.

BlackHeart279

In many ways, most of “The Boondocks” characters represent an archetype of black people; the cynical freedom fighter, the rebellious kid with a IDGAF attitude, the benevolent elder family member who believes in responsibility politics, the "Uncle Tom", etc. Some of the characters are the personification of an ideology like how Ed Wuncler is whiteness and capitalism. Uncle Ruckus is the personification of internalized anti-blackness, he feels repulsive cause he is repulsive, he even looks repulsive. His purpose is to show how abhorrent anti-blackness views are, and it makes his ideology all the more jarring (albeit sometimes funny) coming from the mouth of the visibly “blackest” character on the show (by that I mean the black character with the darkest skin-tone).

BlackHeart279

People do not hold consistent moral values if they know nothing of moral philosophy. Only people with an actual moral foundation have any chance of remaining consistent. The OP is correct. We will see this during the Cobra Kai reaction. They will hold some people accountable for their actions and will call other peoples actions "disgusting." The OP wants to know why they can not use the same morals that they are using for the real world and apply it to the shows that they watch. Moral inconsistencies frustrate those of us that try our best to remain consistent. You didn't answer the OP's question. People's morals can absolutely remain consistent while dealing with fictional fantasy scenarios. Btw anyone that believes Erin has any Moral high ground has no morals. They have an emotional tie to the character. Like how a father would rather 100 strangers die than their own child. It is not moral it is emotion. See The Normies views on Dogs for moral inconsistency. All Americans views on Dogs for that fact. The Dog conundrum is the easiest metric to test people on.

Shawn Brink

While that's a fair point about not knowing what people are going to do in the moment, I was referring more to who people blame or support after the fact. Not in the moment as it's happening

Fatherlord

Also, on a very practical level, if an individual is damaging one's property they're a legitimate violent threat in the moment. From the victims perspective, they have zero clue what's going through that person's mind and there's a "fuck around and find out" element to it. People's family members in that instant matter more than considering a movement. Individual lives should be worth more than property but when destruction of property happens, more things than just destruction of property is at stake and people damaging property make their bed to whatever consequences happen. I lived a couple of towns from Ferguson, Missouri when Michael Brown was murdered and the atmosphere of the St. Louis region was pretty scary at the time. Everyone's anger was 100% justified and the protests were well overdue given the nature of St. Louis regional police; one of the most racist ass corrupt police entities in the country. However, it's also true I kept a weapon near my bed and on my person at that time just incase.

Star Wars is a space fantasy which, according to George Lucas, is intended to be entertainment for children. I just started watching Boondocks due to The Normies reacting to it so don't know a whole lot about the series but it's clear from the start the show is a fictional series centered around real social commentary and real things that impact people on a daily basis. That matters when evaluating entertainment and opinions on similar themes won't/can't be similar in pure fantasy vs. realistic type entertainment. As a recent example, people entertain Erin being right in AoT trying to genocide the world (applies to Thanos as well) whereas nobody sane debates the same thing in entertainment that's based on realism. Fantasy and fiction not based on real world things will always have a veneer of falseness to it.

Chaos T

#sundayrundown on the whole change and property damage discussion for Boondocks. One thing I'd like to point out where people seem to be pretty inconsistent to me is how you will blame or be angry with an entire movement if somebody from that movement damages or destroys your property. But in something like Star wars or most other shows you watch, if somebody a character cares about is killed by the other side, you're able to understand why they hate the other side but ultimately say that they are wrong & can't blame the entire group for the actions of one individual. For example Kallus' backstory where one of Saw's mercenaries killed his whole group. However, one of you guys (I forget who) said if the normies office was destroyed, you would most likely be angry with the whole group who was protesting. My main point is why the inconsistency in who gets blamed? The only differences in the 2 situations that I see are that in one situation violence is being committed on a person and it doesn't affect you. While in the other, violence is being committed on property and it affects you personally. I'm honestly not trying to call out anyone specifically, it's just a problem that I have with our culture at large and wanted to highlight. To me it feels like society values property more than people. I'm pretty sure if my property was destroyed, I would be pissed with the individuals who did it, but still support the movement. But it's ultimately entertainment, so who knows 100% for certain how they would react in real life unless that happens to them. Sorry for the wall of text.

Fatherlord

Excellent breakdown. This is SDR material.

Suraj hasn't uploaded any of the Ahsoka uncuts to Patreon. You'll have to wait for him to post it.

While I understand one side of the couches point of view of how counterproductive riots or violent protests can seem.. it’s a unfortunate truth that when business and the money gets hit and areas are effected, is when the government feels the need to address issues. The Stonewall Inn riots, Watts Riots, the Black Panther takeover of the Cali legislature, the Nahel Merzouk riots over in France this past year and etc.

Zee

I could be wrong (don’t want to spread disinformation), but I believe it’s largely due to Pat and Micky not having a great time with the show due to fan comments? It’s been a while, so I forgot why they seemed so lukewarm to it other than the pacing. I remember Marketa liking it, and forgot Nahid’s opinion on it. Perhaps that, in itself, is the reason - it’s just been too long for the very busy Normies? I’d love Chris and Suraj to sit down and react to seasons 1 and 2 though.

Oh my frinkin lord, has anyone seen an anime called "link click". This show is just jaw dropping. I recommend it to anyone looking for a new anime series to watch. The second season is just going on but after finishing the first, i have to say it is worth writing about it in a random post.

navi can just read V for Vendetta. the film is based on a comic

#sundayrundown #beef I understand danny wanting to get off to the butt pic rather than pornhub, because the pic is more intimate. Watching too much porn can cause you to become desensitized to it. It's also the reason more people prefer onlyfans over porn. because onlyfans gives you the allusion that you have a more personal intimate relationship with the model.

Queef Burglar

This is a great breakdown, thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!

#sundayrundown Rana - I know why this show is called beef -episode 6 smh 😆

This is definitely a top 5 episode of Boondocks imo, so many layers! Also, I think Uncle Ruckus is one of the best written characters in the show. We've seen it done with Clayton Bigsby and Samuel L's character in Django as well, but this is the pinnacle of it to me. He's absolutely outrageous and a stark contrast to the vast majority of Black people, but honestly not too far off from some others, even those we may have seen put on a red hat in recent years. I also think every Black person has at some point in their life said the words, "I can't stand Black people," lol. No matter how much we love our people and our culture, we can't deny the toxicity in it sometimes that makes you wanna be like MLK at the end of that other episode and say fuck this I'm out lol. Ruckus is also a cautionary tale in a sense, because he's someone you could become in certain ways. I marched and stood front lines at protests facing violent police in riot gear, out of love for my fellow Black people, just to go back home and see shootouts between Black people over dumb shit, and it made me question what I was even fighting for at times. I relate so much to Huey's frustration of loving his people and wanting us to wake up, but knowing we're stuck in a cycle and all you gotta do is throw on Move Them Butt Cheeks to distract us lol. That alone, without Ruckus's back story, could push a person to rejecting their own racial/cultural identity and appropriating or glorifying someone else's. Ruckus is the embodiment of the self-hate and internalized white supremacy that Black people have to contend with due to generational trauma and the current effects of living in today's so called post-racial society wherein white supremacy is still very much alive. I think understanding all that makes the Uncle Ruckus character easier to laugh at, albeit he definitely should make you a little bit uncomfortable and angry lol Lastly, s/o to Chris for letting himself be corrected in the end and acknowledging that destruction of property is still violence, but also sticking to his beliefs on the matter pertaining to what he said about if it were to happen to him. I agree 100% with him and Marketa.

A. P.

I wonder if we will ever get a legit reaction series of vinland saga. Random series to bring up but its just wild to me that they have avoided such an amazing series since they put out that tiny group reaction to season 1
