NOICE. so close to a full season binge

I get where you're coming from but there's a lot of things in animation that don't translate well to live action. It was really noticeable in the live action Luffy is he's really good at setting the tone with his eyes and his slight mannerism add weight to the scenes. The way he acted with his eyes, his face, and his body language is something that can't really be pulled off in animation or manga. The actors they got for the roles did a great job of portraying anime personalities while making it believable in live action. It's a hard thing to accomplish and one of the reasons why many live action anime adaptations fail.

Chaos T

Yeah the showrunner Matt Owen's is a huge fan of One Piece. He was Twitch a couple weeks back on Hasanabi's channel doing a tier list of all the arcs. So him combined with Oda's input made for a great adaptation, kind of like how Last of Us did the same thing with having the creator of the game be a co-showrunner along with Craig Maizin who was already a huge fan of the game since it had come out. Two labors of love that incorporated the original creators while the shoerunners were already fans of the series. Two adaptation curses broken in the same year. What a time to be alive haha

Steve Rivera

When ep 7 reaction will be released?

Adeeb Alothman

That is the same kid from Sweet Tooth and Cocaine Bear, little dudes a great actor pulling off that accent when he's Canadian.

J. J.

Fine for me

Griff

It's like playing Elden Ring for the first time and meeting Margit, The Fell Omen.

Chaos T

They get information overload from all the shows they react every week. Both Navi and Marketa also cram a lot of One Piece information in a short amount of time. I'm sure Navi remembers Crocodile, but forgets that Crocodile is part of the Warlords during this time. Jinbei is also mention during Arlong Park.

Xonok

1x5 is private

Cameron Pimley

legends, thank you

Macs

Yesssss 🔥

Nigel W.

Hey she's hot lmao

Infinite tsukuyomi (he him)

bro...

Griff

This is actually happens a lot. Navi has a notoriously bad memory. She'll even forget things that happened in episodes she literally just watched. So I dont really blame you for pointing it out.😅

Captain K'nuckles

I'm so glad they skipped the whole Don Krieg fight. Dude was probably my least favorite villain in the East blue saga

Captain K'nuckles

So basically the beginning of Demon's Souls?

Adam Vialpando

"Also one piece is long as hell, who's gonna remember every single detail/chronology except superfans who typically come to these channels and just want to watch reactors gush about what they like, not have an honest reaction. " I expect them not to remember things.... But not remembering warlords? Thats like saying you wouldnt remember the akatsuki in Naruto wtf. Again allow me to reiterate no hate to Navi.

Garrett Gee

The break was given lol, thats why I said no hate. and all love to Navi she's one of my favs on the couch. Doesnt mean its not fair criticism. Episode 6 was much better, think maybe she was off that day for episode 5. @Veya I wasn't complaining, or at least didnt mean to come off that way, more like I was curious as I said if she was playing it up to keep surj blind. @J. J. Cool as a cucumber baby. Also I tend to retain alot of info about stories I enjoy, but maybe I'm just better at that than some... It's not like I was caps locked screaming fake reaction or anything. Couple simps in here.

Garrett Gee

I wish Emily Rudd was my wife. I remembering crushing on a poster of her in college but I didn’t know her name until this live action show. Wow brings me back…

Infinite tsukuyomi (he him)

Zoro challenging Mihawk is the equivalent of you playing an RPG as a new player and immediately encountering the game’s boss.

SeymourAsces

If there is one thing id give someone a break on forgetting it is One Piece haha.

Twin Hallow

Relax kid, nobody retains much in the manga either unless you go through it over and over again.

J. J.

Comes with the territory of reactions. they're reacting to multiple stuff and just watching a lot of different things at the same time constantly. there's no way they're gonna retain stuff the same way people normally do especially when most people just consume a few things at a time at w/e pace that's comfortable. there's basic details and arcs that's been missed in other reactions as well but I mean you signed up for this. also doing it in front of a camera is just different than privately reading/watching no matter what. You have worry about what you say, how you come across or you get flamed in the comments lol. I mean again, you signed up for this. it's like people complaining about the fakeness of pop idols not understanding the nature of industry and the specific give/take of that particular dynamic. Also one piece is long as hell, who's gonna remember every single detail/chronology except superfans who typically come to these channels and just want to watch reactors gush about what they like, not have an honest reaction.

Veya

I think she also used to draw maps as a kid

HouseDogget

maybe after boruto shippuden

B Mowglli

Give them a break. They're reading the manga in lightning pace and only reading it once. Watching the anime, or being caught up and having all the time to go back to certain points helps to put that timeline together much better.

Mike Drop

Nami's actor Emily Rudd is an anime nerd and she said Made in Abyss is her favorite anime!! It won Anime of the Year in 2018, and tons of people subscribed to YaBoiRoshi patreon just for it. Hope you'll consider reacting to it!

B Mowglli

#sunday rundown I had to stop halfway through the episode 5 reaction to say this, and let me preface by saying I normally love Navi in any reactions she joins... It feels as though she literally doesn't remember half of this stuff, i.e. "I cant believe were getting this info already so early" in regards to Mihawk being a warlord....your getting it as the exact same time as she and marketa did in the manga. I know they read it a while ago but the lack of retention is astounding here. I kind of am hoping she's playing it up for surj but she seems genuinely surprised by the things she knows will happen, like mihawk slashing the boat. Love to you Navi no hate. just found this one odd. ..... also when surj asks you guys havent met all of the warlords and she says we have only met mihawk, when they have met 2 in arcs and seen 2 more and heard about another.... this is what I am meaning.

Garrett Gee

official announcement was 2 hours ago! Oda announcing it was such a nice treat too :')

Alex

I want to give a lot of props to Sanji's actor, Taz Skylar. The showrunners knew he had talent and they basically made him into a real life Sanji. They had him trained him in multiple kicking fighting styles and had him learn to cook gourmet food. Which he would often cook for his costars on the set.

Shihi

Yeah I think I’d have wanted more scenes with that kind of energy It’s specifically how monotone Garp, Shanks and Nami are and the lack of humor the actors are allowed to show in their performances Nami in particular is usually the loudest person in the room after Luffy, she’s regularly rude and mean in a fun way. Here she’s written a lot more subdued even if she’s angry or flustered They’re just different characters in the LA The scenes you listed are few and far between in the LA, her and Zoro being friends after 3 conversations and the drinking game is something that has to happen because of the limited amount of time but her personality could have been conveyed differently (Emily Rudd did great with the role she was given) What would you like me to share examples of? Luffy in the manga doesn’t listen to people’s backstories (this makes it even more meaningful that he cares about people regardless of where they came from)

space colon

Im genuinely curious, so like Nami ordering them around with the cannon and the safe is not being bossy or laughing at them all arguing over Usopp's jolly roger, was that just not enough for you, like you wanted more? I felt that the cast did a great job, the only one I really agree with you on is zoro he feels alot more serious in the show than in the beginning of the manga

Garrett Gee

Already got renewed for season 2!

HouseDogget

I would say I agree but I think exaggerated emotions are a big part of One Piece even more so than most manga. This is one of the things that sets One Piece apart from other Shonen, Luffy is usually the loudest and dumbest and goofiest person in the room (do agree that it isn’t realistic to capture that 100% in live action) I feel bad for the LA actors because I think the script did them a disservice, Emily Rudd is a huge fan of Nami and I feel bad that she especially didn’t get to show a wide range. It’s a different character from the manga, same with Shanks and Garp *Am happy to share examples, all of these characters have a variety of running jokes and get to laugh and be loud and bossy

space colon

The emotional stuff you point out is something I've always believed was a huge discrepancy between an anime/animated production and a live action production. The emotional range in animated characters are often highly exaggerated because they have to be for the scenes to be effective where as live actors have the benefit of showing emotion without exaggerating and impactful emotional moments can be shown extremely subtle. Gustavo Fring's character from Breaking Bad is a great example of this as one second he'll look at someone normally, slightly change his facial expressions, and for the remainder of the scene he's terrifying. I feel the LA actors did a pretty good job conveying emotion without overexaggerating the emotional moments.

Chaos T

#SundayRundown The Baratie was completely built and didn't use any cg. It's in south Africa I believe and I heard people are interested in it becoming a tourist attraction. Not sure if that's just from the hope of the Internet or from the production team though.

Mikestrike

For the pirate discussion it’s worth noting that the term “pirate” is ascribed to any sailors who defy the world government. We find out early on that the “Pirate King” isn’t a ruler of any kind, it’s just the person who’s most free on the seas

space colon

Please guys i wish you will watch the one piece anime. Also in the meantime can you guys do a reaction to robots with Robin Williams and Ewan McGregor.

Karim kenneth baash

Sanji's actor is half English half Sierraleonian-Lebanese, growing up in both England and Spain (Canary Islands specifically). His accent is English with a hint of Spanish

Liam

So awesome that Coby’s actor is trans Really enjoying the discussions, glad you guys aren’t uncomfortable calling out things that don’t work for you Also props for having a black man in a relationship with a white woman (and actually kissing her) (Love Marketa’s Daria shirt)

space colon

Please hope y’all watch the one piece anime soon

Brandon Edwards

I think there are problems I have with the script and performances but my biggest concern has been the way the crew members are introduced In the manga Syrup Village is Usopp’s arc. He’s brilliantly contrasted with Kuro Usopp is brave, passionate about his dreams, loyal to others and he lies for good reasons Kuro is cowardly, gave up on his dreams, isn’t loyal to others at all and he lies for selfish reasons Usopp doesn’t get his moment to shine in the live action and it doesn’t make as much sense why LA Luffy would want this Usopp. Each main character gets an arc like this that highlights their values and contrasts them with the villain. As far as Nami, Shanks, Garp and Zoro go their performances in the LA lack a wide range of emotion. Even this early on in the manga we see Nami be bossy and playful and laugh, same with Zoro. This means the sad scenes later don’t hit as hard I’m absolutely fine with changes btw, was excited for these early arcs to be rewritten in ways that complimented later story arcs and themes (which they have been and it’s really fun!). Just want the characters to have their motivations and connection with the story’s themes to be highlighted

space colon

SO good! :D Only thing wrong about this, is that we don't have ep 7 and 8 yet :P I am kidding ofc, but at the same time, I am seriously looking forward to it.

Pharal

Let's fucking gooo!
