2023-09-05 16:38:10 +0000 UTCCan't forget that Dunder Mifflin itself is a struggling company and they've had to close down branches before and was talking about downsizing since the first episode and David Wallace just said in the last episode that the economic climate wasn't good. So it's not entirely wrong when Dwight said someone else might do it to them and Staples kind of already is. Even if Michael said they're doing "fine" they're in a failing industry so they're not actually fine. This client list can very easily prolong their lifespan. This is the type of episode it's meant to be: you feel bad for the nice family but it isn't a black and white thing. And not really out of character for Michael. It would be out of character if he didn't resist at all but he did for a bit and still craves compliments and approval which David gives him at the end. And also in a very Michael Scott way, he was too dumb to just rip up the paper. Decent episode, mid level in terms of comedy, but next week's is one of the show's best and funniest.
