so wally west is iris west's (flash's wife) nephew (hence the same last name), making him the first cousin of her twins. the don (the male twin) is bart's father, making wally bart's 2nd cousin or in his terms "first cousin once removed". simple pimple. as for how he got his powers: flash is wally's hero and when he found out how barry got his powers, wally duplicated the exact same experiment so he can be flash's sidekick. wally is NOT blood related to barry so not his cousin, he is only connected to barry via iris.

rickie woodson

agree

rickie woodson

they have. rana talked about it last week on the sunday rundown and on the angel season 2 ep 1 watch along on twitch two weeks ago. they already know about dawn just confused about who she is and where she comes from. basically marketa's reaction at the end of this week's buffy episode about tara "who the heck is tara!?" is rana's reaction to dawn

rickie woodson

who watches the watchers? TARA

rickie woodson

its still done today, it didnt stop in the 80s. heck we didnt get jesse quick and impulse (flashes) until the mid 90s, gold beetle just debuted LAST YEAR, we got two new super kids THIS year, not to mention all the spider people popping up every week............

rickie woodson

meditation is a thing. you so dont need drugs. #whack #weak

rickie woodson

@Miranda But what will she find to hate about angel this time?

Macs

He needs it, bully Mickey more

Macs

Would love if they did Blue Velvet or Eraserhead for their movie bookclub on their podcast

Because some people have answered the Flash questions, I'll answer the Green Lantern question. The first Green Lantern in the YJ universe was Hal Jordan who was a great GL and was called away to handle problems in space (YJ's creators worked on the Green lantern TV show before YJ and it canonically takes place in the same universe). Hal was so good the guardians appointed another GL to earth named John Stewart, who helped handle things while Hal was away, he was also another legendary GL. So after having 2 legendary GL's come from earth, the Guardians figured another legendary GL would be awesome so they sent another ring to earth. It was found by Guy Gardner.... he's kind of a dick, and the Guardians stopped sending rings to earth because of his attitude. 2 outta 3 isn't bad tho.

Shihi

Ive always seen the cheese guy as a loose reference to when Riley was courting Buffy and Willow told him she likes cheese so he walked up to her at the party and awkwardly offered her cheese. Buffy looked really confused by it. You know how random things tgat happen in your life appear in your dreams but out of context

D J

#SundayRundown Young Justice 2x6 Glad someone younger got better acquainted with dick outside of his nightwing identity other than just tim or the old team. So many Earth Green Lanterns can be summed up as to DC Earth having hella problems just like i.r.l. New York being like Gotham City, or a bunch of different writers throughout the eras wanting their own crack at glory by inserting new created character into the GL mythos, either/or. 🟢🌎💚

StlawHatRuffy

Oh I see you don't know Pain

StlawHatRuffy

I mean, I agree we shouldn't be obnoxious about it. I was thinking more about casually inserting lines about S1-4 Dawn in regular analysis, trying to make it natural. But if there isn't a consensus about doing it, it won't work, and there doesn't seem to be *shrug*

A V

Don't gaslight, if we spam them w Dawn comments it's very obvious we're lying. Imo play it cool and quiet.

bits

#SundayRundown - just to clarify, while there’s been 12 or so people to label themselves ‘Flash’; there’s, so far, been 5 who’ve taken on the mantle in the DC universe. Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West, Bart Allen & a Chinese American female character named Avery Ho Also, I know Suraj brought up the Justice League animated somehow from the 2000s. 2 fun facts, the Flash in that show is actually Wally and not Barry. If you gonna back and look at clips, you can see he is similar to Wally as a character than Barry. Second, the creator pattern the original League members after the initial group from the JL show (Batman, Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter & Hawkgirl). If you notice, with the exception of Flash, all those members are the ones Savage had attack other planets and who are now on trial.

Kuro

If I was a reactor I would get irritated. I don't see the fun in it at all.

Jontor11

Actually their are a number of comics set during the show

Macs

This is a really dumb post.

Chaos T

Guys gotta watch some David Lynch if you wanna see the best dream sequences...

Jimmie V

@cosmotron that's a damn good observation. There's not any point in this series besides the introduction that Xander sexualizes Anya

Chaos T

#sundayrundown so a refresher on the slayer rules, until very recently there was only 1 slayer at a time, there are potential slayers who the watcher council finds and trains, but until the power of the slayer jumps to them they are only normal humans with training, the slayer power gives them enhanced strength, speed, reflexes etc. the reason there are 2 now is because buffy technically died so the power jumped to kendra, but then buffy came back, so the power was in 2 people now, then kendra died and it jumped to faith. Also the comics all take place after season 7, so don't read them until after

Unstablebeast

OMG! Season 5 of Buffy is almost here! For me, it is the best season. Speaking of dreams though... had a terrifying dream once that happened in the very room I was sleeping in. In the dream, I opened my eyes lying in bed in almost complete darkness except some moonlight coming through the window. I heard the sound of someone snoring next to me under the covers, this confused me since no one sleeps next to me, my roommate at the time had his own bedroom. I guess I thought maybe he came into my room half-asleep by mistake like he got up to go the bathroom in the middle of the night. So I whispered his name and gave just a slight nudge then suddenly this hand holding a large knife came out from under the covers at me. Apparently, this scared me so much that when I jumped out of bed screaming in the dream, I woke up and I was actually out of bed and standing on the floor ( I think). My heart was pounding, I was sweating, and then my roommate comes to the door and knocks. He asks me through the door if I'm ok. I go open the door to say I was fine. He says it didn't sound like it, you were screaming. I apologized for waking him up. I have had many nightmares in my life but nothing has ever made me react like that before or since. Honestly, I could not tell you exactly when the dream ended, was it right before I jumped out of the bed, in the process of doing so, or did i manage to get up on my feet befroe waking up? No idea.

TheyCallMeJeff

Totally forgot about Passion of the Nerd! They totally could do that but maybe that's something they'll react to at the end of the series ... I wish more reactors that had completed the series did... It's a lot of fun getting nerdy about this show haha

hannemanart

Or let's not gaslight them at all. Personally I am so tired of all the Dawn-has-always-been-there comments. Instead, why not remind them of "Be back before Dawn" and "little sis coming". They are not spoilers and won't reveal anything. And they learn to pay attention.

Jontor11

Yes, Buffy 5x7 and Angel 2x7 are designed to be watched back to back immediately like a 2 hour event. Even if you don't release them together, it's important that you at least watch them that way. REALLY looking forward to seeing your reactions to S5 and that crossover in particular.

John Moreland

"Angel would be a dog walker until he was discovered and becomes a model" lol so that twitch user obviously knew. That is basically how David was discovered, he had only played in uncredited roles as an extra and one small paid role then as from wiki: He was cast in the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, after being suggested for the role to Marti Noxon (casting director) by one of Boreanaz's neighbors, after he was seen walking his dog past their house on a regular basis

Macs

#sundayrundown the flash in the justice league show was wally actually, at the time the show was made, barry had been dead in the comics for a decade, and wally was the comics flash at the time, and in the comics he eventually became faster than even barry

Unstablebeast

@cosmotron I wonder if it’s similar to what seemed to happen with Cordelia, after being together for a while it seemed like he lost interest in her, obsessing over the women he couldn’t have (like Buffy or Willow 🤢)

space colon

I'm glad there's a lot of knowledgeable DC commenters on Patreon because it can be confusing at times. My only knowledge of DC is through the animated shows, live action stuff, and common knowledge and I learn a lot every week through these comments.

Chaos T

The Naruto fandom was the worst. The Normies would receive "you don't know Pain" comments weekly for years when they were watching Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. You're not a wet blanket because it's annoying af.

Chaos T

Been missing Chris in these reactions, but I really enjoyed yours guys's reaction to the Buffy finale. Restless is nothing short of incredible. Now i'm off to watch the Angel ep. 20-22 reactions👏🏼

Alexis Cardarella

He doesn't sexualize Anya either, which is also interesting.

cosmotron

Also, a good Angel episode for Marketa to sit in on!

Miranda

#Sundayrundown Great episode of Young Justice. Heads up - The Flash in the animated Justice League tv show was Wally West. Wally took over from Barry as the main Flash in DC Comics from 1986 to 2009, when Barry returned in Flash Rebirth. Which is also why Wally will always be my Flash, as he was the Flash when I was a kid in the 90s-early 2000s.

Anansi

Wooooo Woooooo woooo for a very awesome Buffy Thursday with the normies.... Congratulations on getting to Season 5 of Buffy gets crazier after season 4 but more amazing... awesome finale for Angel.... Finally season 2 of Angel.... Where the show gets its footing with the core cast. and woo for a pretty good Young justice episode, it is a very heavy flash episode,so only the ones who saw flash would be more into it i guess... still a good a scifi flash episode.

Ricardo Obregon

They watch before they post

Calvin Allen

Congrats on finishing first Angel season. Can't wait for the S2 goodies. The Darla stuff is imo even BETTER than that other arc. A shame Chris wasnt with the team for Restless!!

Chris K.

I think "rogue demon hunter" and leather pants was Wesley's later-in-life rebellious phase since he clearly didn't have a rebellious phase as a teenager. He was Head Boy!

acidnova

Wait, it seems they're ahead of me on Boondocks, shouldn't I be caught up with them too? I have the 25$ tier, I'm confused.

StackzDaCrook

He's got a really cool arc through the shows imo. You kinda get the impression that he was so focused on the "correct way" to progress in his world as a watcher that he basically never grew up or learned any other way and then as soon as he was out from under that, he became a whole different person and bloomed. Like he's almost done what Giles did or at least started down that road, but he skipped the rebellion summoning demons/ripper phase that he went through.

Kongolor

Of course it's obnoxious when you're reading the same jokes for the 10th time, but it's probably fun for the reactors.

Pajander

When you say "they don't care enough", it'd be more accurate to say it actually doesn't really affect the viewing that much since it's what TV viewers probably saw back in the day and the show still became a beloved iconic thing? I imagine most people don't actively note the credits really but if you see them I don't think knowing "character appears" is some huge thing. Hell back in the day if you were paying attention to the show at all any guest stars and the general premise of most episodes probably got spoiled to hell and back in tv guides or any of the nascent fan sites and such.

Kongolor

The thing is, it wouldn't have been confusing if they'd stuck with it. People can understand the idea of characters aging and new characters taking a role over in universe. It's just the comic companies wanted to have their cake and eat it too, they'd get the interest boost from a character dying or handing over the mantle to a new sidekick or whatever, but they also wanted to have the sliding timescale thing. The issue became more confusing when they kept the older alter ego characters around because they were still popular OR worse, did actually commit to the switch for quite awhile, leading to the new alter ego gaining a whole different group of fans AND then when a creator came on who was nostalgic for the character from their youth and hamfistedly wrote a story in which the old one came back and basically usurped the role they had originally had. Then that process happened back and forth over decades as creators came on who had alternating nostalgia for various characters or tried to make new ones themselves This would lead to situations where there's like 5 characters with the superhero name "the flash" all of whom have people convinced they are the one true Flash. Or you get massively ridiculous backstories trying to encompass every incarnation/origin story through their whole history into one character like Hawkgirl or Donna Troy. Or you get the reboots DC have done where they pick and choose which bits characters remember/actually happened which always piss someone off because their beloved characters get forgotten for awhile.

Kongolor

Some of my favorite imagery, love how quick Suraj and Mickey were to catch onto a lot of things! This is one of the few seasons where they knew they weren’t at risk of being cancelled so they ran wild and made this the ultimate set up episode sprinkled with insight into the characters and themes Would love if they brought on Passion of a Nerd to a podcast for a Buffy discussion, maybe checked out his first spoiler free video on interpretations of the dream sequences. The discussions they’ve had already have been great especially this one Xander sexualizing every woman but Buffy is really interesting, love how every path he takes leads back to his basement and parental abuse Willow watching Tara and Oz talk and laugh always gets me, her constantly being in a performance honestly hurts to watch

space1999

When they finish with the series, they need to make a supercut of the best Angel intro riffs.

Chaos T

I agree too. However, If Suraj or Mickey want to look at an analysis that goes over this episode that seems to be fairly safe, I watched Passion of the Nerd's video titled, "Restless [NO SPOILERS] • S04E22 • TPN's Buffy Guide". Insightful without being reliant on spoilers.

Heather T

I get what you mean, but 1) doing it this way means they will have to actively choose so look, and 2) most likely they have already watched the next episode.

A V

Yeah you might say Impulse is just like like Trunks from DBZ who also came from the future to prevent his horrible world from happening. Also Red Arrow and Cheshire have finally found the REAL Roy Harper aka Speedy!

Brandon Gibbs

Something that has always stuck out to me with this Angel finale was Wesley's speech about desires and having reasons to live. It plays such an important part to the show and is great example of Wesley's insightfulness.

Blake

Loved the angel rap intro 🔥 This reaction group is top tier Rana and Pat hasn't thoroughly thought about immortality. Rana calling every demon daddy 👨 🤣 Chris not paying attention Spidey the only one paying attention and reacting 🙏🏽 Suraj bullying Mickey 🤣

The Answer

Spidey not remembering Faith is alive and in Jail is crazy to me. Don't even get me started on Mickey mouse not even remembering who Darla is. It might be telling that they watch way too many shows at once.

Bastion33

How about NOT putting spoilers at all. I don't trust the Normies to not look, lol. They already don't care enough to avoid reading the pre credit names.

Bastion33

Once you are done with the entire series I would suggest to you to rewatch “Restless” along with some other episodes to fully appreciate the scope of this episode. It is my favorite Buffy episode. Yes complex, when first time watching confusing and mind tripping, but it all adds up and actually explains a lot of the character and plot developments we see in the entire 7 seasons. Since you are still watching and discovering the show for the first time, what’s your take on the reasons behind Joss chosing to do this kind of episode?

Daniel

Can’t believe Chris missed the Buffy finale but caught the Angel one. Where are his priorities! 😜

Courtney Scott

Starting next week, let's all try to gaslight the Normies into thinking Dawn has been here since the beginning

A V

...

A V

===== BUFFY SPOILERS IN THE REPLY ===== ===== NORMIES DO NOT INTERACT =====

A V

Yes! This!

space colon

Wally is actually faster and more creative at using his powers than Barry was when he becomes the Flash. My favorite Flash. Also was the flash in the justice league cartoon.

Di

So one thing about The Dream. Giles one was the shortest as the First Slayer played on insecurity. As the most mature and the Brain obviously their were a lot less insecurities to play on, hence Giles of course figured it out fastest and also had a lot less fears and insecurities to attack. Still got him of course but he got what was happening first.

Macs

The fact that the Normies thought Tara could be part of a group of witches who watch the Watchers of the Slayers made me feel some kind of way.

Fuiono Ching Sung

Yes! Season 1 finale of Angel is where the show really kicks off. Season 2 is such a ride and introduces two of my favorite characters.

DeAnne

Actually Wally West is the Flash from the animated justice league show. Also in the comics (at least for a long time not sure about now) Wally was faster Barry.

Chris D. Jones

just remember, the cheese man is the key to everything

Macs

#SundayRundown The reason there are so many Flashes (and Blue Beetles) is a practice of the comic industry until around the 80s. The assumption was that a character would be popular for a while until kids would age out of comics, but we still have that character so we’re going to use them, just with someone new in the costume. If it seems confusing, that’s only because it is.

Ethan Vaughn

Just thought I should mention. Buffy 5x07 and Angel 2x07 are best when watched together. Buffy first - then Angel.

Jontor11

Yeah but the comic gives more depth to it. You guys are right tho I’ll edit my comment a little bit

Reynaldo Urena

It is sooo annoying. And they all think it's clever and funny but it's not!

Calvin Allen

They did explain it on the show. He said he recreated the accident that gave Barry his powers

Calvin Allen

It actually is explained in the show! In a season 1 episode, when they go to Doctor Fate's tower, he tells Artemis he "recreated Flash's experiment, and here I am"

Riley Wigmore

#SundayRundown: It was explained how Kid Flash got his powers in the show, in S1 E7 he said: “I recreated Flash’s Laboratory experiment and here I am!” because he was defending himself about not believing in Magic since that was Dr. Fate’s ep. His recreation is shown in the Young Justice TV-Series Tie-In Comics. Would be dope seeing a potential read along in the future so you guys can fill in some gaps of information. 👀 Also Barry is Wally’s Uncle in Law through Marriage because Iris(Flash’s Wife) is Wally’s aunt, not his cousin. Navi and Chris probably didn’t acccount for Impulse’s unborn father and aunt, Don & Dawn Allen, who are Wally’s first cousins when they were connecting the dots on the family tree.

Reynaldo Urena

#Sunday Rundown Some clarity on the Flash Discussion: Here is some general comic book knowledge that I think could be fun for the Normies to know! In the Justice League animated show, Suraj had the Flashes swapped, the Flash in the Justice League animated show was *Wally West*. In the comics, in the mid 1980's, Barry Allen died in Crisis on Infinite Earths, and Wally West became the new Flash. His entire story then revolved around living up to the mantle of Barry and growing up being the new Flash. Due to this Wally West became comic book fans most popular Flash by a wide margin. Even to this day, to comic book readers, Wally West is universally considered the most popular and beloved Flash. Barry did not return to the comics until 2008 in *Final Crisis*, a sequel storyline to Crisis on Infinite Earths. Barry Allen was dead in the comics for over 20 years. Then the comics brought Barry back and really tried to push Barry as the *main Flash* to the point that the live action show and movie are about Barry. However, to the vast majority of comic book fans, Wally West is *far more* popular and beloved and considered the best Flash. Wally is the Flash that myself and many other comic book fans grew up with. Most modern adaptions of Barry, like the CW show and the movie, steal Wally's personality traits and give them to Barry, because Wally was always the more interesting character with more of a personality. Because of this, there is a common idea among comic book fans, "Barry Allen was better dead" and many Flash fans wished Barry stayed dead and never came back to life, as Wally is considered the far more interesting and cool Flash. I am kinda one of those people. The reason why Wally was the Flash in the Justice League animated show, was because when that show was written, Barry had been dead for 20 years and was irrelevant, and when you said Flash, people thought *Wally West*. Also, Jay Garrick is not Barry's father/grandfather, he was just Barry's mentor and tutor who got super speed as well. Jay is Barry's father figure but isn't technically related to them but is considered part of the family. And Wally is Barry's *nephew* through marriage. Iris West, Barry's wife, is Wally's aunt, and Wally recreated Barry's experiment because he was a Flash superfan, and got his powers be recreated the experiment, but his chemicals were weaker because he was a teenager doing this, and didn't have access to everything Barry had, which is why Wally is slower.

Riley Wigmore

Thanks for showing the full post analysis in the uncut version.

Courtney Scott

Joss Whedon is on the record admitting that the Cheese Guy does not signify anything, it's just a silly random dream thing. He couldn't have been the First Slayer's Watcher; remember when Giles figured out who she was, he said, "Of course you'd underestimate me... you never had a Watcher." Also, since it's never going to be explicitly stated in the show: The Slayer line of succession now goes through Faith. If Buffy dies again, a new Slayer would not be called to replace her. They loopholed their way into having two Slayers, but technically Faith is THE Slayer, and she'd have to die before another one would be called.

Cory Stanish

Young Justice was sooo good! Love hearing your guys' theories!!

Daniel R

I love this angel final, it's where the show really gets going. It highlights the bonds developing between the group and more of gunns involvement as well. also, setting up a more richer world for S2 with more characters. Plus, bringing Darla back to cause lots of trouble. Can't wait for you guys to get stuck into next season, cause there's gonna be some great reactions ahead. 😊👍

ray s

Maybe an unpopular opinion or I'm just being a wet blanket, but personally I find the inevitable fan gaslighting for Season 5 a bit obnoxious.

Rufus May

I love this group! Probably because they watch anime, they knew last episode the writers would have to nuke use power they used to beat Adam. And they remembered the spell at the beginning of this episode.

Courtney Scott

Spidey you look like the first slayer cousin

CWall

Love the first season finale of Angel. High stakes, a great fight scene, and a tease for what’s to come. Like Lindsay, it’s easy to be disarmed by that ending…

Brendan O'Connor

One of the top 5 episodes of the series, imo. And it gets richer every time you revisit it. The writing Willow was doing on Tara's back was Sappho's "Hymn to Aphrodite" in Greek.

John Moreland

#SundayRundown Wally West is the one who was the Flash in the Justice League animated series. Barry Allen had been dead in the comics for nearly 20 years when the JL show premiered, and Wally took over the mantle, so that’s why he was the Flash in the show. Also Jay Garrick isn’t Barry’s grandfather, but his mentor and father figure.

Michael Pamon

#SundayRundown So now that Impulse has arrived we've got the original comic YJ team! It was him, Superboy, and Robin (Tim, not Dick) that founded it. Wonder Girl was also a member along with a few others who aren't on the team in the show. Impulse was also originally from the 30th century in the comics, not just 40 years in the future. Anyway, the show is definitely more of a mash up with Teen Titans that does its own thing - pretty much evident as soon as they announced the main characters lol. I know that some comic fans don't like that type of thing, but personally I prefer it. I think shows like this, or X-Men Evolution that mix up the characters and put them in new situations are more interesting than a 1:1 retelling of the comics. Anyway, really good episode. I always like focus on the speedsters, and it was great to get Wally back again 😁 Super pumped for next week!!!

Ailish

Lmao, I *love* the opening homage to Twin Peaks!

Gaius Frakking Baltar

Yes! I agree with that text Rana got! DO NOT LOOK UP ANYTHING ABOUT THIS EPISODE ... At least not until much later... like Season 6 (is the safe amount of time to then look "Restless" deep dive up)

hannemanart

I'm loving the meltdown over the significance of the cheese man. 🧀

Alicia

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but since Rana mentioned it… The Buffy porno parody is actually weirdly good. It actually respects continuity and gives us scenes that I wish the show did. I’m not saying you should watch it together… but I’m also not *not* saying it.

Rachel Espiritu

"Restless" is one of my favorite episodes of the series. The direction and writing in the episode is top tier. Awesome intro btw.

Chaos T

I have been waiting for this Angel reaction!!!

Shirlene Wright

Yes! Finally! Been waiting for this one 💕
