2023-04-06 14:55:32 +0000 UTCThey say “children” because that’s how it is written. The ADV dub used “child” because it sounds better to English speakers. NERV is supposed to be said like “nairv” because nerv is the German word for nerve, like Gehirn is brain and Seele is soul. Keep in mind that these are changes that Studio Khara wanted. They wanted “third children” instead of “third child”. Personally, I prefer the ADV dub. Children sounds odd and with nerv looking so close to nerve, I’d rather it be pronounced as it is in English. Funnily enough, in the rebuilds, they say First Child or First Girl. The Netflix dub appears to be closer to the Japanese version which is fine I guess for people who always want things to be translated as close as possible. But that’s disregarding the point of translation. There’s a scene where Maya says “sex fiends” to someone in the ADV dub which is more contemptuous and hilarious than what she says in the Netflix dub where all she says is “indecent”. Doesn’t hit the same

2023-04-05 22:19:11 +0000 UTCIt's more the fact they had to change SO MUCH! Like the "Children" line was purely because they couldn't just say 3rd child. Idk why, but the script had to be completely re-done, and it feels like a lot of things had to be reworded or pronounced differently. Pronouncing EVA (Ay-Vah) as EVA (Eh-vuh) was random and saying NERV (Literally just "nerve") with that weird accent is just off putting. I'm glad they got JYB and some other big names, but the OG is simply etched into my brain and thus everything else seems wrong lol.

2023-04-05 21:43:45 +0000 UTCNah, OG dub is great but it takes a bit to reach that. I just rewatched the ADV last week and it starts off at 6-7 before being great once everyone is comfortable in their roles. HOWEVER, I wouldn’t consider the Netflix dub to be bad. It’s more than adequate

Just a thought: I believe it is implied that all these kids were born around or after the Impact happened, and I'd guess there are a few with a compatability with the EVAs due to maybe being closer to the center of the Impact or some other factors I can't really remember. I don't even remember if the answer to that is ever even explained. Lots of vagueness in this anime 😆. Oh! And a funny side note... in the Original Dub, the voice actor for Shinji would eventually voice Hanataro from Bleach (should have just been introduced in the last couple reactions) AND Rolo from Code Geass! It's hilarious how Shinji is basically both of those characters combined 😂 Even for those who don't know Hanataro, just imagine Rolo in Shinji's shoes!

To be honest, there are still things I watched thanks to Adult Swim that I don't know if I'm quite old enough to be watching... How old am I? 😆 JK JK!
