2023-03-17 12:42:19 +0000 UTCI think one of the most distinctive differences is that Xander is already 18 when he meets Anya. Buffy was 15 when Angel saw her and 16 when she got together with him. Two years seem not like much of a difference, but it actually is. Plus, there's that stalker-ish behavior that Angel had exhibited every now and then, as in following her, keeping tabs on her, though to protect her of course. Still, that dynamic isn't there with Anya and Xander, so it goes down a bit better. Also, Angel was already a grown man when he got turned, around 26 I think while Anya was probably around 18-19 when she became a demon, considering no one questions her being in the senior class lol

However, since the people who really enjoyed the maturity and nuance of the show were teenagers and older, they didnt buy toys, causing Matel to pull out. Eventually the show came back because DC had a streaming service where on demand shows are profitable.

In this same episode, Anya also shared with them knowledge that apparently could only be gained from being alive for a millenium. Like the fact that Buffy, in all her years as a Slayer, had never faced a "true" demon. Info even Giles, Wesley, and the Watchers Council didn't know. The Normies never bring up Angel's "mental/emotional/functional" age when they go nuclear about the age gap between Buffy and Angel. They just harp on the fact that it's a 200-some odd year old guy with a teenage girl. Something they haven't done once when it comes to a 1000-some odd year old girl with a teenage guy.

2023-03-17 01:16:18 +0000 UTCInteresting point. I wonder how much of it is a gender double-standard and how much is due to how the show presents the two characters differently. With Anya they made explicit that she's abruptly been fundamentally transformed into a teenage girl, where she is contending with unexpected and unfamiliar emotions and feelings that go with it. They also play up her 'fish out of water' awkwardness, and I think that gives the impression that her 1,000 years as a demon did not really translate into 1,000 years of life experience / maturing the way Angel's centuries as a vampire presumably should have for him. Angel looks the Mayor in the eye and says "I've got a lot of years on you"; Anya is generally comic relief about wanting to go to Prom because of hormones or something -- they kind of have different implications for the power / maturity disparity when dating teenagers.

2023-03-17 00:55:12 +0000 UTCWoooo FINally here at graduation day, Part 1..... still an amazing season personally my favorite is 2 but theres so much more after high school, we just have to get through college first. wooo amazing job normies of getting through season 3 - one more left and then you have a much harder job of deciding and going through angel and buffy, maybe coing chunks might be better, the good thing is hardley any spoilers of the two shows, until way later on, so i think yr good. anyway thank you so much still an amazing fun Normie Thursday

Furthermore, Buffy's jurisdiction only extends to the unsouled/non-humans. Killing a human, no matter what, is a violation of the laws of war underwhich Buffy operates
