Hello! (≧ヮ≦) 💕
Well, well, well, look where we've found ourselves again. /smirks amusedly/ 😏
NewJeans, a kpop group that debuted last year, dropped their 2nd EP last month and I've been playing it nonstop for all intents and purposes. Most notably, the track ETA has burrowed it's way into my brain and made a home there. NewJeans is without a doubt my favorite group to come out of 4th gen kpop. The music, the styling, and the members' chemistry are all so fun and from a creative mashup standpoint absolutely chef's kiss. I think a lot of what they and their team have put together has innovated the kpop space for the better and also fully reignited my love for the genre. In a market as saturated as kpop, it's easy for things to get stale and repetitive. Thankfully, a lot of what NewJeans has brought to the table has breathed new life into the game and shown others what the medium is capable of by expanding boundaries and subverting expectations.
There's a particular set of outfits they wear in the ETA mv that has refused to leave my head ever since I saw it:

the way I've been studying these outfits like my life depends on it...🧍♀️
In many ways it's a natural culmination of many individual elements I've been interested in during recent years: skirt + crop top combo, fairy wings, lavender, and bows. I noticed myself drawing them again and again when doing my daily sketches and felt it only natural to draw a full piece highlighting the styling. It was really satisfying working on this piece, because it was an opportunity for me to bring together a bunch of techniques I've been practicing during sketching. As I mentioned in my last sketchbook post, I'm learning it's important for me to reign things back in and not run too wild with experimentation. Grounding myself through application helps me make sense of what I'm learning. A recent, simple change in brush settings (lowering the opacity works wonders) has also made drawing leagues more enjoyable. Why I've been drawing at 100% opacity for years I couldn't tell you the reason. Know better do better I guess. Also, I used just one brush for the majority of this piece, which helped a lot with developing a cohesive look. I've been feeling very scattered creatively for awhile, so it's nice to direct my focus in this way for once. xD

I hope you enjoy these drawings and the speedpaint for this piece is coming later this month! Is there any music you've been listening to on repeat lately? Tell me in the comments below, I'm always looking for new songs to check out! ₊˚ʚ₍ᐢ. ̫.ᐢ₎₊˚✧ ゚.
Hope you have a great day, 🏖️
