2023-08-13 23:47:20 +0000 UTCMay seem kinda boring, but I'd like a video from you about FL Studio workflow tips, from a veteran user. Both hidden gems, but certainly also cases where there are several approaches to doing a certain thing, and you feel some approaches work better than others. Fx. I seem to remember you said you often worked in a single, long pattern, instead of many. I'd like to hear why that is, just as a small example. Some of those things are likely applicable to many sequencers.

2023-08-04 00:01:21 +0000 UTCin cases like pianoteq i think the sound quality is basically indistinguishable from samples, and that's not considering the feature set that you get along with it that you cant get with a sample pack. hope to see more VSTs that i don't know about, and any insider info about the future of physical modelling you might have. thanks for what you do.

2023-08-03 22:08:10 +0000 UTCHi Mark, I can perhaps try to answer that question since I worked with hearing aids: it depends. Imagine the middle and inner ear as two sets of transducers: the middle ear converts acoustic vibration into mechanical vibration, which is then converted into electrical neural signal in the inner ear. This means there are 2 answers to your question, assuming they are not using aid: people with middle ear impairment might still be able to hear some frequencies trough the vibration of the bones: hence we can restore some of their hearing by literally making their skull vibrate (see bone-conducting hearing aids); people with inner ear disability will only be able to feel, not hear, the mechanical vibration through the internal organs though this generally only happens at loud sub low frequencies, imagine the chest thump of a kickdrum. This sort of hearing impairment can sometimes be partially restored by surgically inserting an electrode through the cochlea (hearing implant), but the result is far from the hearing non-impaireds are used to.

2023-08-02 08:44:40 +0000 UTCI'd like to hear your thoughts on what comes next for musically inclined artists with the continuing devaluation of recordings and generatisation of pop music. Will career musicians need to consider more performances, dip into multi sensory / immersive virtual creations or become metamakers driving AI towards new musical pathways? How will this impact all the non-creative aspects of the music industry? Will the labels and distributors survive as the barrier to distribution get smaller and smaller. Can artists still reach their full potential if not supported by the amplification machines of labels?

2023-08-02 00:56:28 +0000 UTCModeling vs samples depends on the developer and the sound. Cherry's new Novachord doesn't come close to a real Novachord, while Sonic Couture's Kontakt library captures it perfectly. On the other hand, guitar sample libraries are still quite weak, but Native Instruments has done well with Mint and similar libraries. I think the right developer might be able to make a really great guitar model, but I sure haven't heard it yet. I think that modeling is suited to some tasks for experimental sounds, but doesn't capture the essence of familiar real-world instruments. However, they can still sound great in front of amp sims for new territory, for example. I use them a lot when I'm looking for suitable textures, not to replace or emulate something acoustically familiar.

2023-08-02 00:41:31 +0000 UTCFor me, subjectively, it's a "time is of the essence" dilemma. Musicians must understand the ethical hazards before "selling" their voice - your exposé on loss of creative control and misuse of vocal likeness would provide an urgent warning to the community before it's "too late". In addition, your videos around issues like this is what drew me to your channel and encouraged me to spread your videos. [but trust me, I love a good ol' sampling vs. modeling comparison, especially a thorough one]

2023-08-02 00:05:02 +0000 UTCI've always wondered: Are deaf people able to hear music through the vibrations of lower frequency sounds, similar to bass notes?

2023-08-01 23:02:58 +0000 UTCHard choice actually - both topics are interesting and relevant. The voice-AI thing is tantalising, and you tackle complex topics really well Benn, particularly around ethics.

2023-08-01 21:29:26 +0000 UTCI'll do you one better: How physical modelling will rip the sample library economy. And interview people currently making groundbreaking stuff :D

2023-08-01 21:22:16 +0000 UTCFrankly, between the CPU requirements of physical modeling and the memory requirements of a sample library, neither sounds like a realistic option to me hyuk hyuk hyuk

2023-08-01 21:19:15 +0000 UTCI'm intrigued by the "selling your voice" option. Simultaneously, I think it applies to a lot of aspiring musicians and producers.
