2024-11-25 04:46:55 +0000 UTCIt moved from BBC2 to BBC1 for S3 so they toned it down for that audience and it shows... That's happened quite a lot, where they move shows to BBC1 and they get toned down which has a detrimental affect on the show... It works the other way around too... Men Behaving Badly got better after moving from BBC1 to ITV, where they had more licence to be edgy.

2024-11-24 12:02:03 +0000 UTCI think series 3 is sadly a real step down in quality for the show. Partly the writing; for me, the dialogue is sillier and lacking the acerbic bite it had before. It's always *looked* quite cartoonish and it has always been a bawdy show with outlandish ideas, but it just seems to have become beyond daft and the dialogue just isn't as punchy. Tom is largely unchanged but the real shift is with Linda. If you watch her in series 1, episode 1 and then series 3, episode 1, she's almost a different character. The running joke has always been that she's deluded about her looks and pretty dumb, but she's ludicrously stupid in this episode, and Kathy even seems to be playing her differently. I adore Kathy Burke as an actress but her delivery here is..... bizarre. It must be partly a change inspired by the script but I just can't get my head around why Linda's vocal timbre has even altered so that everything comes from the back of her throat (steady! ๐) and seems really high pitched and childlike. The "actually.... actually.....actually..." stuff at the beginning is as good an example as any - what *is* that delivery?! ๐ Kathy didn't do that at all in the first two series. Just bizarre. It's a shame as for me, Linda's more "gruff" tone and killer one liners were one of the best things about the show. It just feels as if the character has had a bit of a personality transplant. Linda was never smart but they've *really* dumbed her down. It worked in the same way that Karl Pilkington often showed a lack of intelligence but was still very witty. Karl wasn't a character and was just being himself but it's the same principle - Linda was dumb but witty and very funny. When she's just dumb without the killer dialogue, what's the point? Just my two cents. It seems you enjoyed it Josh and I'm happy about that. ๐ Series 3 is overall very weak for me but it has its moments. ๐
