That is awesome. Steve is a nut, his comedy is so goofy but I love it.

Haha, I honestly know the feeling! XD

I'd actually never considered it before, but there's a bit of Frank Spencer in Alan Partridge in the way that rather than being a conventional straight man trying to make sense of weirdness, they're both weirdos trying to navigate a straight world.

Haha, really glad you enjoyed this!! It may be important to mention at this point, Frank does all his own stunts (which you will learn to be pretty impressive XD). Also, you mention Steve Coogan, he has talked about a certain type of comedy acting that he calls 'Spencer-ing', based on this show. It is the extremely over the top reaction characters have to the things Frank does in this show. XD The manager in this episode is a classic example! Really looking forward to this! And yes, Betty is a saint! XD

Porridge is the last one you watched from the 70s. OFAH started in 81

I don't know why but I find that bit where she goes to take his briefcase and he keeps backing away hilarious

Love that you are reacting to this, it's a classic! The first two seasons are really good, but Frank gets more cocky and confident in the third, which is my favourite. Michael Crawford did all of his own stunts during the show. There's a great scene when he goes rollerskating and ends up getting seperated from the rest of his group. What follows is absolute gold πŸ˜‚

As always comedy is in the eye of the beholder. Overall I found the episode moderately entertaining with some very funny moments that stand out. However I watched it with someone who found the majority of the episode hilarious.

The highlight are the job interview scenes, that showcases Michael Crawford's famously inept character in all his glory. We see Frank fail spectacularly at everything he does whether it be his interaction with people or his awkward physical movements. It is how funny you find these concepts along with Crawford's performance that will likely impact how much you enjoy the episode. Personally I think Crawford's performance is brilliant. He lives and breathes Frank to a point you believe he is the character. Importantly his comic timing is perfect and does not cross the line to become annoying.

Funniest moment - Frank tries to put a briefcase on top of a stationary cupboard in Lewis' office. It falls on top of him. Lewis' maintenance men lift it into the air. No sign of Frank. They shake the cupboard, and suddenly Frank falls onto the carpet!

It doesn't matter how many times I watch it, or what episode I put on, my mood is always elevated, this is comedy of the highest order. I cannot recommend this enough Josh.
