2024-08-27 03:40:36 +0000 UTCAll the shows you’ve watched that have laugh tracks are filmed in front of a live audience. You’ve seen Kathy Burke, who plays Linda, before too - she’s Perry in Kevin and Perry

2024-08-25 15:24:13 +0000 UTCYou can't remember characters attacking each other as much as this? You reacted to Bottom, my man. That's almost constant verbal attacks only broken up by physical ones!

2024-08-25 14:30:57 +0000 UTCAh, well, I was being self-deprecating in truth. if I were really being pedantic, I'd be highlighting some trivial but meaningless detail or some trifling inaccuracy that needs tweaking for the purposes of true representation but doesn't - in deed - change the overall understanding of the original statement. I pointed out an actual error, the distinction between two wholly different practices, so not strictly speaking pedantry there, John... 😇😛🙏

2024-08-25 09:50:13 +0000 UTCBoth leads were brilliant. The first two series were the best, I felt the third series was lacking somehow. It did have some laughs and good episodes, but in my opinion, it was the weaker of the bunch. Overall, it was very good and could never be made now with all the snowflakes about so great to own/see for that reason.

2024-08-25 08:30:08 +0000 UTCWhen I first watched this series I thought it was funny, but crude. Then I got hooked on it and religiously watched every episode. It's just so fresh and so funny. Kathy Burke has always been wonderful but this just shows off her many talents Excellent. 🙂

2024-08-25 04:47:14 +0000 UTCI think you'll grow to really love this Josh but it's absolutely choc-full of very Brit-centric culture references and colloquialisms so it would naturally be quite difficult for a non-Brit to follow. "I'd rather chew the cud with Rosemary West!" - chew the cud = have a long conversation / Rosemary West - notorious serial killer. Google her - it's a long, grim story. 🙈😛 P.T.O. = please turn over (written when the letter is concluded on the other side). Linda read it as if it were a name (her lack of education is a regular joke) Having a dump = dropping a deuce (I didn't realise this was such a British expression actually.) The last scene would have completely thrown you as it referenced British TV unknown to anyone outside Britain. "Let's play Casualty!" Tom is an aspiring actor so any role playing game will please him as he gets to show off etc. Casualty is a long-running British medical drama, more of a soap opera. Think ER but much cornier and lower budget. "Let's play The Bill!" The Bill *was* a long-running British police drama, again more of a soap opera/low budget. Tom's acting career thus far has been thin on the ground but these are the kinds of shows he'd apply for, and it would be small roles, maybe even glorified extras, rather than a main role. The humour in this show is very crude and they do trade insults like no other. I guess it isn't so dissimilar to something like Bottom, very cartoonish like that but probably even more so. Rosalind Knight as their landlady (and ex prostitute) Beryl you will have seen already, briefly. It's interesting that she says "Have you got a copy of this week's Bella?" (magazine) as she ran the Villa Bella in Only Fools and Horses episode The Jolly Boys' Outing. Possibly a coincidence. 😃 I don't think this first episode is particularly strong and it does get better. I dislike series 3 (which I'll explain more at the time) but the first two series are very good, and I'd say on balance, series 2 is probably better than series 1 overall. Hope you get used to the style as it goes on. Oh, and I hate to be that person, pedantic in the extreme, but it's pretty much never a laugh track in British sitcoms. You are hearing live audience laughter. No different to the laughter from the audience on The Graham Norton Show or Would I Lie To You? and so on. I'm guessing it often is an actual prerecorded laugh track much of the time when you hear it on American sitcoms? Perhaps why most American reactors think it'll be the same for British sitcoms. 🙂
