I've lost a tooth like that before :S You got me wondering about what they could actually charge the guy with. Attempted murder, maybe? Desecrating a corpse, probably. Almost certainly some kind of obstruction charge; though that's not likely to be worth much.

2024-08-18 21:01:29 +0000 UTCInteresting fact: Rik Mayall was one of the actors considered to play the role of Jonathan Creek! Tbh, I couldn’t imagine anyone other than Alan Davies 😊 From Wikipedia (the reference being an exclusive guide released by the BBC called “The World of Jonathan Creek” 😃): “Caroline Quentin was Renwick's first choice for Maddy Magellan, but the casting of Creek proved something of a problem. Renwick had wanted Nicholas Lyndhurst, but he turned it down. Rik Mayall was also offered the part, but was, at the time, busy with stage work (he would later guest-star in a Christmas special of the series). Hugh Laurie showed a great deal of interest and agreed to take the part, but later turned it down as he could not figure out Creek's motivations for investigating the cases Maddy involves him in, especially when he shows so much reluctance in some of the episodes. Others who were tried for the part included Nigel Planer (who would later guest star) and Angus Deayton (who had already worked with Renwick and director Susan Belbin on One Foot in the Grave). Almost a dozen actors were considered before Susan Belbin saw Alan Davies during a rehearsal for a sitcom. Davies was invited round to talk to Renwick and "turned up in his duffle coat with straggly hair and a broad grin [and] was self-evidently the closest match yet to Creek as we had always seen him".

2024-08-17 21:30:04 +0000 UTCMadeline's toffees, that Creek nearly had his tooth out with, just set off a Proustian reverie. The dark green bag, the gold wrappers. I loved those things in the '90s. Can't for the life of me remember who sold them, but I can taste them as if they were fresh out the wrapper.

I always found that statue so creepy as a kid, and would get a little nervous when I knew it was coming up (yet I loved the gore of Beryl/Marella being sawn in half 😂) Maddie screaming and spinning around with all the cockroaches everywhere still makes me laugh 😆 Rik Mayall is utterly brilliant in this ❤️ This was the first role he had after his quad bike accident in April 1998, where he was in a coma for 5 days, and it left him with epilepsy and memory problems. (They also referenced it in the last two Bottom Live shows: “That tosser that fell off the quad bike!” 🤣) This was broadcast on Christmas Eve 1998, so he would’ve filmed this only a few months after the accident! Incredible that he did this so soon, and did such a great job! It was also the first thing I ever saw him in 😄 His character does return much later on, along with Nigel Planer, aka Neil in The Young Ones, who played Shelford (the older guy Maddie was on a date with in The Reconstituted Corpse). Nigel plays a different character though, and literally looks like an older version of Neil 😂 The sergeant was a male actor - I remember finding it annoying that they didn’t reveal the gender of the character, but me and my brother looked at the end credits, and it’s someone called Dave Haskell.

2024-08-17 19:00:28 +0000 UTCThis is one of my favourite episodes - one of the few I clearly remembered what the solution was And Rik was great in this too of course, he steals the show every scene he's in

2024-08-17 14:40:11 +0000 UTCThis is such a brilliant episode, so much to unpack, the gorgeous Kate Isitt guest starring (can't blame Jonathan for being weak-kneed in her presence 😃) and of course, the legendary Rik Mayall. Effortlessly charismatic. The smoothness and smugness (albeit in a more malevolent way) can be seen in The New Statesman if ever you get round to watching it. He's Richie from Bottom and Gideon Pryke from this episode mixed with Margaret Thatcher in that show. On steroids. 😂 Great reaction, Josh. On to a very strong series 3 now. Some real stand out classics in this series! 🙏

2024-08-17 09:49:33 +0000 UTCI love this one. They do a good job making it creepy and it has the added bonus of Rik Mayall :) I really like how they made Rik's character competent at his job AND open to accepting help from outsiders. In most things I've seen with a similar premise, the detective will either be an arsehole and in conflict with the main characters and not want them interfering on their case or they'll be really rubbish at their job or corrupt or something. It's refreshing that they didn't go down those routes in this. This is probably the type of frock coat Adam was thinking of https://images.app.goo.gl/8RAMcNXT3Jgkp1ZD8
