It's a beautifully understated connection between them and in some episodes there are hints of some sort of sad past with a child (either lost or a child they never quite managed to have) and I think Terry's protectiveness over Sheila, his complete dedication to the club & his throwing everything into it, and her slightly loopy tendencies also nod to this. It's so tenderly done and another reason why the show is so special. "so, dance is more important than detecting?" "No, but Sheila is." <3
