2024-04-10 08:35:24 +0000 UTCJohnny "Piper" is actually Johnny Flynn - the writer and performer of the music for Detectorists (including of course the theme song which he sings in this episode). He's also a very successful actor - recently starring alongside Anthony Hopkins, Colin Firth, Ralph Fiennes and many more. Including, interestingly, a film called The Dig, which tells a reimagined version of the story of the excavation of Sutton Hoo (in the same county as Detectorists was filmed) in the 1930's, when they uncovered a ship burial site and discovered lots of treasure. It was certainly an inspiration behind the show and Lance directly mentions it in episode 1 I believe "We might be sitting on the next Sutton Hoo"

2024-04-08 12:45:53 +0000 UTCI like it too. When people say a show is 'gentle' most of the time it seems to mean 'not that funny'. But this is funny. And it's not too nice either. It's got that cutting edge to it that's lacking in some of the shows that always get described as 'gentle'.
