Three great rivers cross the land: Durius in the north, Erbina (Tagus) in the middle and Guadiana in the east. They feed the sea, which in turn feeds the sky, the realm of the gods. Erbina, the central river, is a goddess of boundaries, and she flows fourth from the Underworld; to cross her is to pass into the realm of the spirits.
Just as there are three rivers, there are three realms: the world of man, the sky and the Underworld. Ataegina guards the gate to the infernal realm, which Endovelicus rules, while Quangeio guards Dercetio, the mountain where the gods dwell. Thus are goats and pigs offered to the Underworld while dogs and serpents are blessed to the heavenly realm, and given to the light gods along with bulls and sheep. Humans will never know the realm of the gods, but Endovelicus takes them kindly.
The gods are like water, flowing fourth from the sky or the Underworld to the mountains, then to the rivers and lakes, and into the sea where they return to their realms.
