After Work Reactions
2023-07-10 05:03:02 +0000 UTCIt always infuriated me when Gervais called Karl an idiot for asking what the creatures in Gremlins were called. Gervais mocked him and replied "they're called gremlins, you idiot!". It was obvious that Karl was referring to the name Mogwai.

2023-07-09 22:07:00 +0000 UTCCharlie Brooker has mentioned Karl Pilkington before. He said that he wasn't inspired by Pilkington at all (as he hadn't heard the podcast at the time), but that he found it very interesting how coincidental it was that Karl hit upon the same broad ideas as he himself did.

2023-07-05 00:50:27 +0000 UTCOh I thought it was the one about that man who kept getting phone calls about his non existent wife who died in an oven fire. You know, the one whose cat didn't look happy.

2023-07-04 21:27:40 +0000 UTCI'd be interested in knowing if Brooker or any of the people involved with the show have mentioned Karl and the question of whether he directly influenced any of the episodes.

2023-07-04 21:26:33 +0000 UTCi think that the "movie producers" who spoke to karl in that episode of the ricky gervais show could have been the producers for black mirror. a couple of the ideas for episodes have been more or less exactly the same, maybe just tweaked slightly to make a bit more sense.

2023-07-04 20:33:23 +0000 UTCIt wouldn’t have been funny if they didn’t just dismiss everything he said. But they definitely misjudged some of Karl’s ideas. He’s probably just not interested but I’d bloody love it if someone made a show where Karl talks philosophy and explores these problems. Maybe Charlie Brooker could get involved. He basically did the same idea with philomena cunk , it’s just she’s fictional. Bring back Karl :)

2023-07-04 16:13:07 +0000 UTCKarl even says to ricky about how he has trouble wording things when he says captured instead of saved when hes talking about being stranded on a desert island. Think thats all it is, he sounds a bit daft at times but he's obviously an out of the box thinker

2023-07-04 15:58:25 +0000 UTCWith the second mini story, about the couple who share minds, maybe the problem wouldn't be so acute if it was symmetrical, so the husband feels what she feels and it wasn't just her feeling what he feels. That's what having control really means here: feeling emotions. Without being able to feel what she feels the husband's body won't do any of the things she wants to do. The fact that the guy has empathy, so he can sort-of feel what she feels...sure, that gives her a small amount of control, ie. she can guilt trip him into doing things, or she can just nag him. But in the end he'd just switch her off. Who wouldn't? Only a saint. But if he really felt what she felt, she would immediately have the same amount of control over the body that he does. She feels pain and he feels it too? That's going to force him into avoiding the things she hates, and he'll avoid them just as desperately as if he hated them too - because, basically, now he does. And if he gets the same pleasure she does from eating a particular kind of dish? He's going to eat that dish too. And if she feels the same level of irritation that he feels when she's constantly rabbiting away as a back seat driver? Then she'll shut up, because she'll be irritating herself too. I'm not saying having her inside his head(their head?) would ever be a honeymoon in the Seychelles, but it might be a bearable setup if they both felt what the other felt. They'd both have 'control.' Or they'd both believe they did.

2023-07-04 11:18:03 +0000 UTCNo joke here: the number of really deep, significant ideas Karl stumbled upon just by pure accident is amazing. Remember when Karl asked 'how would I know which one I was?' about two exactly identical Karls...and Ricky said it was 'the stupidest thing anyone has ever said'? Turns out that's one of the deepest philosophical thought experiments on identity, Derek Parfitt's teleporter paradox. Sure, he throws in a few ideas about brains floating into bodies from outer space, but every now and then he touches upon something really deep. Always irritated me how the other two instantly dismissed it, especially since Ricky's got a degree in philosophy.

2023-07-04 10:55:14 +0000 UTCDid we already start talking about the fact that they clearly stole karls ideas yet?
