Yes, it's loosely based on the events following the 2010 election. Gory details here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cameron%E2%80%93Clegg_coalition

Ignoring my Terri stanning for one moment, this is a time where context might be useful. Following the general election, neither Nicola's party or Peter's party had enough votes to form a government. As such, Peter's party and Fergus's smaller party joined together in partnership, adding their vote share together to oust Nicola's party who are now the opposition. Terri stays where she is because she is an impartial civil servant who serves the government of the day. Glenn has defected to the other side. Stewart Pearson is the new Malcolm. Basically, the shoe is now on the other foot, with the other side running things

John Bruce

Terri is one of the best comedy characters of all time.

Absolutely adore Peter Mannion MP, his done with it all attitude among the youngsters is so much fun to watch

Michael Harrop

Not sure if you spotted it but Adam Kenyon, the political advisor to Fergus Williams (the junior coalition Minister), is the same guy who ran the newspaper in the Spinners and Losers episode where ollie's journalist ex-girlfriend worked (supposed to represent the right-wing tabloid newspaper the Daily Mail).

Terri specifically wants to get Redundancy, if she gets fired she gets nothing. So I think she can poke the bear a bit but not straight up not do the job. Either way, seems like shes just been there too long for them to accept how big the payout will be which is hilarious

Roger Allam is just so magnetic as Peter Mannion in a really odd way. I recall techspeak brainstorm ideabores like Stewart Pearson were really a thing in the 2000s, but by the 2010s and 2020s they've slinked into the background, probably because techspeak is just a common thing nowadays.
