The Young Ones: Season 2, Episode 1 Bambi

Comments

Yes it was Lemmy (RIP) and Motörhead. They were named in the credits. Fun epsiode, also the original University Challenge positioned the contesting schools on top of each other, although being next to each other in reality. That is why several jokes could be made by dropping stuff to the team below.

This has one of my top five favourite comedy moments ever - Rik's utterly confident 'hands up who likes me'. That has become an in-joke with me and my sisters. I actually remember sending that particular clip to this channel to give Josh a taste of the show itself. Also, I reckon it gets going in the second season. It's tighter, the surrealist stuff is less of a drag on the pacing and the characters are better defined. Rik slowly morphs into Richie from Bottom as you see more of his defining feature - his violent radioactivity towards females everywhere and his desperation to see a live woman naked. And Rik's freak-out! I love it, it comes from nowhere, the pressure gets to him and he has a massive breakdown...no-one on earth but Rik Mayall could've performed that scene. It's mental.

I remember when my dad had this on VHS in the late 80’s, maybe he recorded it off the tv but the scene at the train station when Neil is having his photo taken, as he waits for his photos to come out the photo booth just vomits. I haven’t seen that scene since, it was cut from re-runs for some reason. Not that removing it makes much difference to the episode, it’s still one of the best episodes but does anyone else here remember that moment?

James Ellison

My fave episode!

Cedric Bombs

That is awesome 👍 it was nice to see him in this when he was so young. Oh ok lol sometimes I recognize the faces but just can't place what I have seen them in.

Thanks bud 👍 this was a great episode.

After Work Reactions

He looks so young in this and different without his mustache.

After Work Reactions

That is awesome, that was terrible when he passed away.

After Work Reactions

Love this episode 😁 I think it was probably the first one I ever saw. Yep it's really Lemmy! :) The two you couldn't think of are Emma Thompson and Hugh Laurie. The one on the end who Vyvyan kicked in the head is Ben Elton who co-writes this show with Rik Mayall and Lise Mayer.

Great reaction Josh! This is probably one of the best remembered episodes and it contained a who's who of British acting talent. Robbie Coltrane- was in two episodes of Blackadder- Ink and Incapability as Samuel Johnson, and as a ghost in Blackadder's Christmas Carol. These days he's best known as Hagrid from Harry Potter and he sadly passed away recently. Tony Robinson- Baldrick from Blackadder. Emma Thompson - yes, this was the woman married to Alan Rickman in Love Actually. Very famous actress who's been in hundreds of TV shows and films. Stephen Fry - Blackadder and many other things Hugh Laurie - Stephen Fry's comedy partner. In Blackadder and in more recent years, best known globally as Gregory House in House M.D. Griff Rhys Jones and Mel Smith - you will have seen these two possibly before. Another comedy duo similar to but also very different to Fry and Laurie. And yes, that really was Lemmy/Motorhead! Talk about an all star cast! 😁

Ash Jeffries

Stephen Fry Hugh Laurie Emma Thompson Ben Elton Robbie Coltrane Mel Smith Griff Rhys Jones (as Bamber Gascoigne) Tony Robinson

William Burnham

It was lemmy. In the early years he didn't have his iconic moustache/beard. Similar scenario with Freddie Mercury

Danny

Yes that really was Motörhead and Lemmy (RIP)

Ben Marshall

You know, I thought I was familiar with The Young Ones, but the joke from episode 3 was entirely new to me; I can only presume it was removed from my DVD copy, haha. It took me by surprise that's for sure!
