This episode.... meh.

Jebus

I agree, this episode was very clever.

Once you know the twist it seems so obvious, they always do a great job of throwing you off the scent. With the episode title "The Stakeout" and it starting off in a graveyard I felt like I should have been thinking vampires right from the start!

Chris H

When you realise what the ending is you see how perfectly the laid the groundwork for it from the start and throughout the episode

Bear in mind that there's still quite a large cultural gap between the US and UK when it comes to things like therapy. Up until the last generation or two it was always seen as exclusively for people who were nuts. Since Steve is playing an older police officer, it makes perfect sense that he would be so adverse to the idea even after an event as traumatic as a murdered colleague.

Can't wait to watch this one! It's great on a second watch as you can spot all the clues to the payoff. "Living embodiment of the dead", having to be invited into the car (perhaps a lesser known vampire trope), hating the garlic in Steves food etc Thank you as always Josh

Alex C

One of my all-time favourites, looking forward to watching this one later

Kieran B

I really like this episode, i find it pretty creepy with them parked in a cemetery at night and especially the music. The twist really surprised me too. Steve and Reece are just brilliant.

James Ellison

Yeah, the 6th episode of each series tends to be more supernatural. As far as I remember.

Nell Sun

Love this one πŸ§›β€β™‚οΈ thanks Josh.

Fantastic reaction Josh! I love this episode! Really different, really fun, tense score, wonderful dialogue between Reece and Steve and loved how it was just them both and one guest character, almost a cameo really, similar to Bernie Clifton's Dressing Room. I know exactly what you mean about the vampire thing seeming out of place in IN9; I think it's become such a prominent and popular genre in and of itself that a show as left field as IN9 would surely not go near it. They did it in The League of Gentlemen back in the Christmas Special but that was over 20 years ago and vampires were just one of countless horror angles to explore. It's fair to say that The League was always a little more regularly horror influenced than IN9... so it seems odd for the latter to go there and here's the weird thing; I find vampires a bit dull, unimaginative and overdone, but I *loved* the way they used them in this. They were there to bookend the story, informed so much of the dialogue like verbal jigsaw puzzles, and it was all done in quite a meta fashion too; exploring the way cliches shape so many narratives, from the pedestrian and rather pragmatic police procedural, to the warped and whimsical paradigm occupied by vampires and their bloodthirsty friends. This was a cool juxtaposition, and Reece and Steve were really on top of their subject matter. Great stuff! πŸ™
