2022-06-12 00:04:40 +0000 UTCThe voting system is fine. Its never going to please everyone every time. There is consistently 2 or 3 things per week that Josh watches that I like and the rest I have no interest in, which if that is any indication of how it is for others suggests its working fine and fairly.

2022-06-11 21:23:39 +0000 UTCKMKY is doing so well, it's so unfortunate it won't win. It's 7 weeks compared to Porridge's 20-something weeks, Porridge fans wouldn't have to wait long. Meanwhile Alan Partridge fans have had to wait such a long time, KMKY should have been watched just before I'm Alan Partridge, those who convinced Josh not to were so short sighted. Josh has specifically expressed a desire to watch KMKY, well over a year ago, I can only hope that it makes it through on the poll, although what I would like more is some changes to the voting system.

2022-06-11 19:40:57 +0000 UTCKeep voting for Porridge. It's so good. Josh will love it.

2022-06-11 16:24:39 +0000 UTCVoted for every Allan Partirtch related show cause Josh needs to get in on that Partritch deeplore, also voted green wing cause I think Josh would love its crackhead style editing, same reason why i voted mighty boosh, very crackhead style humour espeically series 1and toast of london and what we do in the shadows cause Matt Berry is funny in everything hes in.

2022-06-11 08:58:48 +0000 UTCOne comedy I’ve not seen recommend at all but is absolutely superb is Getting On, it’s not likely to get enough votes to win for a while but putting it on the radar Did Life on Mars ever make it to the poll after Ashes to Ashes was taken off (rightly, how did that get suggested before LoM). I think Josh would enjoy that and although it’s a drama it has a lot of humour in it. No Offence is similar but bloody hell that can get dark.

2022-06-11 08:56:49 +0000 UTCI suppose the difference with books is that the only other person involved in the process is an editor to varying degrees, sometimes hardly at all, so the final product is almost entirely the writer’s vision. It’s their product. But with TV and film there’s so many other people involved in the process adding their interpretation to it between the writing and the finished product, the obvious being directors, actors and editors but there’s so many other elements, that the past record or work of a writer is no indication that their other stuff is going to be any good. I guess that’s why the convention doesn’t exist. I do love Citizen Smith but there’s no way I’d recommend it for Josh, it just lacks the punch of OFAH. I think part of that is down to John still learning, it’s a flimsy premise built mostly around caricatures. With OFAH he wrote about something he really knew, it had a grounding in reality, and could give it heart and depth and characters. And his writing was just better by then, and everything aligned with the actors.

2022-06-11 08:45:36 +0000 UTCI Think two TV shows he would really Enjoy are Goodnight Sweetheart and Two Pints of Larger and a Packet of Crisp Cause they are funny and entertaining especially the Biscuit Rap Like if you agree 😁(Goodnight Sweetheart as Rodney out of only fools and horses init and it’s about Time Travel and Two Pints as the son from Royal Family init n thts jst really enjoyable)
Liam Craig
2022-06-11 04:44:53 +0000 UTCMost people liked OFAH by John Sullivan. He also wrote Citizen Smith & Just Good Friends. Neither are on the lists and probably wouldn't attract many votes if they were. Yet if he was an author and you read and enjoyed one of his books you would likely buy another by him. If he was a recording artist and you liked his music you would probably seek out more of his work. A lot of people like OFITG by David Renwick. In 1986 he co-wrote the comedy Hot Metal staring Richard Wilson. If that was listed would many people vote for it? Unlikely. With films people follow Directors, Writers & Actors though their careers. These conventions don't seem to apply with television talent.

2022-06-10 22:24:35 +0000 UTCShit, I've just found out that Patricia Brake who played Fletch's daughter in Porridge died of cancer at the age of 79 a couple of weeks ago! R.I.P. There can't be many of the cast left now. Christopher Biggins, Tony Osoba and David Jason are the only ones who come to mind.

2022-06-10 21:34:18 +0000 UTCFlight of the Conchords would be brilliant, surprised it’s not been included yet as it’s been requested for a long time. Would like to see White Gold on there again, very underrated so I don’t think it will win for a while yet
Kieran B
2022-06-10 21:18:44 +0000 UTCNice to see Porridge doing so well, I think Josh will enjoy it. I agree with Lemmy, the Thick of It doesn't seem like a good choice for Josh regardless of how good it is. And Derry Girls would make a welcome addition to the next poll imo.

2022-06-10 21:10:57 +0000 UTCAgreed! fantastic show

2022-06-10 20:00:11 +0000 UTCSecond Lead Balloon, suggested it above. Perfectly fits with some big hitters Josh has enjoyed before
lemmy
2022-06-10 19:39:43 +0000 UTCI have to request Flight of The Conchords, Lead Balloon and PhoneShop be added to the poll at some point. They're three very different shows, so there's no reason why I am suggesting them in the same comment other than the fact I love them haha

2022-06-10 19:07:53 +0000 UTCI totally second Flight of the Conchords!

2022-06-10 18:52:37 +0000 UTCPlease consider putting Pulling in a poll. It was a fantastically cringe 13-episode comedy from the BBC - when they did great comedy. It follows three house-sharing women and their tangled sex lives. Think Inbetweeners for adult women. Sharon Horgan co-wrote it.
Kev H
2022-06-10 18:48:39 +0000 UTCPorridge seems a natural pick to me. Very much in the vein of early Only Fools: a sitcom about working-class rogues living on their wits, winning small victories against "the system", and I've always suspected the Fletcher/Godber relationship was an inspiration for John Sullivan when he created Del and Rodney. Remembering how much Josh loved the poker episode in Series 2 of Only Fools, I think it's fair to say he'll get the same enjoyment out of Porridge at its best.
Ian Richards
2022-06-10 16:41:58 +0000 UTCCan we please get Derry Girls on the next poll? it's had a few requests over the past few weeks! Shows like 'Filthy Rich & Catflap' and *'Wallace & Gromit' keep coming back to the polls and then leaving due to low votes, I think some other shows that have never been on the polls should have a chance, to see how popular they are. My two suggestions are 'Derry Girls' and 'Flight of the Conchords', not the first time I've requested them and it won't be the last. *By the way, Wallace & Gromit does NOT have 22 episodes! There are 4 short films, one feature length film, 10 two-minute videos and a 6 episode series that mainly seems to be an educational show for children. I remember loving the original 3 short films, but it's a mistake to present Wallace & Gromit as a 22 episode series while other shows aren't getting a chance to be on the polls.
Ben
2022-06-10 16:31:59 +0000 UTC..Porridge is very '70s gloomy old fashioned UK comedy. Not sure it will appeal to Josh as much as the post Young Ones stuff.
Nell Sun
2022-06-10 15:54:54 +0000 UTCAhh...I was going to vote for it but you argue a good case.
bobby g
2022-06-10 14:22:49 +0000 UTCYes! And it's only 7 episodes. Porridge could wait.. IMO
Nell Sun
2022-06-10 14:01:49 +0000 UTCPorridge is a classic and everything but Knowing Me, Knowing You will definitely provide more belly-laughs. Partridge at his best.
Nell Sun
2022-06-10 13:59:37 +0000 UTCAbout time we had some Partridge again.

Sam
2022-06-10 11:51:11 +0000 UTCOh boy! Looking forward to Josh rolling around in fits of laughter about the Department of Social Affairs attempting to navigate the complicated politics of dealing with the Treasury, as he well knows that's not going to go well! It's going to be straight to his funny bone! Great show but you're all bananas thinking this is a good pick for a non UK viewer who to my mind has never expressed any great interest in politics lol
lemmy
2022-06-10 11:21:33 +0000 UTCTHANK YOU. I feel like am in some parallel universe or something here. There are older shows I have no interest but can imagine him getting a good amount of chuckles from, but a dense UK satire about the inner workings of our government? As much as I love it I think it'd be an AWFUL pick.

2022-06-10 10:57:53 +0000 UTCCan we think about what josh will enjoy watching rather than what we ourselves would enjoy watching, the thick of it , for instance he's just not going to get along with
ezza
2022-06-10 10:56:29 +0000 UTCI dunno how anyone thinks that Josh would gel with that show, despite it being one of my favourites. I posted above about it. Seems a crazy choice to me. It's not about shows I want to watch, I can do that on Netflix whenever I want, its shows I want to watch Josh watch, and I can't think of any show I'd feel more uncomfortable watching Josh watch. The amount that'd go over his head being a non Brit is so far beyond the odd british culture reference as usual. like 95% of the humour would be completely missed.
lemmy
2022-06-10 10:40:45 +0000 UTCCouldn't get on with that. I hated all the arbitrary speeding up and showing down malarkey.

2022-06-10 10:04:03 +0000 UTCOne of the best sitcoms of all time. The Thick of It is amazing too.
Richard M
2022-06-10 09:40:54 +0000 UTCJosh could you add People Just Do Nothing next time you have a poll? Cheers
Richard M
2022-06-10 09:40:07 +0000 UTCSaid it before - The Thick of It is one of the best UK comedies / satires of all time but I think its hopeful at best for someone not from the UK, or at least someone not from a country with a similar government to us, to appreciate the comedy of it considering it rests so heavily on familiarity with how our government works, our tabloid newspapers, civil servants, and the type of politicians and press secretaries we've had in the past. There's some goofy stuff I'm sure he'll appreciate throughout, but I'm so positive a lot, the majority even, of the comedy won't travel well and we'll have to write essays of explaining stuff in the comments of every episode. It's very dense with very quintessentially British political satire to the point it goes over many British people's heads, I don't think Josh will gel with it whatsoever. Feels people voting for it are not thinking about shows that Josh will enjoy or gel with and just shows they like tbh. Seems a mad choice to me. :( One of my favourites but if it wins I'll have to duck out from watching it because I anticipate it being a bit cringe. Love Thick of It, and really not a porridge fan whatsoever, but hoping Porridge wins purely because I think Josh will enjoy it more.

2022-06-10 08:17:57 +0000 UTCDead Pixels needs more love. Would definitely get the concept of the show and the writing is actually pretty great. Very good show
Infernal Symphony
2022-06-10 07:52:55 +0000 UTCPorridge, Psychoville, Early Doors, This Country, and Sick of It are my top 5 here. Porridge is a brilliant classic with the robust comic reliability of OFAH and OFITG. Psychoville would give us our unholy trinity for Josh, following The League of Gentlemen and the current run of Inside No. 9. Early Doors is sublime and will appeal to those who enjoyed The Royle Family and Phoenix Nights. It remains consistently brilliant too, unlike post-Queen of Sheba Royle Family, which wasn't great in my view. This Country is one of the best new comedies of recent years. Sharp, richly observed, echoes of The Office, and some dramatic moments too. Trust me- I grew up in a Cotswold village, so I know. Sick of It - two words: Karl Pilkington. Josh loves Karl. I thought everyone loved Karl. But this consistently underperforms on the poll, so I'm wondering if people just don't recognise the title. Which is odd, and a shame. A zillion times better than the schmaltzy and smug After Life in my view. Honest, hilarious, gloriously Karl.

2022-06-10 07:27:38 +0000 UTCCome on Porridge! Possibly the most witty, sharp and cleverly written British sitcom ever made. Would love Auf wiedersehen pet ( by the same writers) to be added to a poll too.
Chris
2022-06-10 07:23:07 +0000 UTCDoesn't look like it this time, but I hope Some Mothers Do Ave 'Em gets on the list at some point. I've done some crazy shit in my time, but Michael Crawford puts me to shame.
Oliver Prime
2022-06-10 07:21:54 +0000 UTCI really hope Thick Of It wins this time! Not only is it a brilliant series but Josh is watching the movie this Sunday. It’d be perfect! 🤞🤞
Connor Kelly
2022-06-10 07:15:58 +0000 UTCI really want Josh to see Young Ones, ngl. More Rik and Ade. Although he probably needs to understand the Cliff Richard jokes. I'm actually interested in what cultural references he gets and what he doesn't.
